I am thinking of trying out some of the properties available trough Interval.
How does this work?
I see on the DVC site limited info on how the system works.
How do i know how many points are needed etc.

Any good or bad experiences?

I think it's a good value if you are going to a resort or local that is prime and could be difficult to get. I certainly wouldn't exchange for something a few miles from home.

We have exchanged to Hawaii, and I thought it was a great exchange. If you go to page 30 of your 2006-2007 DVC vacation planner, it has the chart of what each reservation will cost you. Just know that Hawaii is considered high season all the time for exchange purposes.

In addition to DVC, which we just purchased, we have Marriott timeshare in Palm Springs. Both DVC and Marriott exchange through Interval International (although DVC will tell you that it's not all II resorts, just the "best" ones).

Anyway, our experience with Marriott and II has been okay. However, then I used the first year of DVC points to exchange for a week at a resort in Colombia. I did it all through Member Services, it took about 10 minutes, and it was easy. I immediately began contemplating how I could unload my week with Marriott.

Another way I look at: a high season week at an Interval resort is 240 points. At the $90 a point we paid, that's $21,600, which is less than that week would sell for in Palm Springs at any of the high end resorts. The maintenance is also less, you don't pay a membership to Interval--it's just another major selling point for me of DVC.

Oh, but that's not really what you're asking. Based on my one experience, Member Services makes it easy.

DVC may tell you it's the best resorts but that's not completely true, there are certainly some exceptions where DVC has excluded a number of top resorts. Usually they do so because of location (Orlando) or limited exchange availability or just because a resort is newer. It usually takes at least a couple of years for DVC to add a resort that otherwise should obviously be on their list.

As for trading, there are differences. I don't know for certain which resort you own in CA as one has lockoff's which makes a big difference in trading Marriott. Remember that one can often buy those Marriott's for close to half what you're quoting for peak season and far less than that for off season. And when one does trade, you have many more options including direct access to II and all that a personal membership entails including bonus weeks and rental options. Plus one has a priority for exchanging to other Marriott's, not a small benefit to many people. The Marriott will also have a much lower yearly maint fee, far more important than the upfront cost over the years.

DVC is 270 points for a HIGH season exchange. For general exchanging, the Marriott will be a much better choice and double that if it's a lockoff.

My bad--the problem with doing something from memory (which isn't as good as it used to be).
