DH & I are thinking about going to Disneyland in CA this winter. They're currently running a special of $209/pp, including 3 day parkhoppers. We had planned on buying PAPs before the turn of the year so that we can beat the price increases, etc for the 50th anniversary. Does anyone know how much they'll give you to upgrade from a 3-day PH to PAP? Would it be worth it, or should we just buy our PAPs & Priceline for a $45/night hotel room?

This is what Mousesavers has to say about upgrading. If you wanted to upgrade to from a 3 day to a AP it would cost $50 each (unless you're a Southern Califonia resident).

Another important thing to know: you can apply the value of an unused ticket or pass, or even a partially used one with days left on it, toward the purchase of a higher-priced pass, as long as you do it before your pass expires. For instance, if you buy a 3-Day Park Hopper and then decide on the third day of use that you'd rather have an Annual Pass, you can apply the value of the Park Hopper toward the Annual Pass.

Here are the current prices -

1-Day Park Hopper - $69 for adults (ages 10 and older) and $59 for children (ages 3-9).

2-Day Park Hopper - $99 for adults (ages 10 and older) and $79 for children (ages 3-9).

3-day Park Hopper - $129 for adults (ages 10 and older) and $99 for children (ages 3-9).

4-day Park Hopper - $159 for adults (ages 10 and older) and $129 for children (ages 3-9).

5-day Park Hopper - $184 for adults (ages10 and older) and $149 for children (ages 3-9).

All Disneyland Annual Passports give you admission to both parks. The options are:

$99 Southern California Select Annual Passport - This is a new weekdays-only pass. Valid 170 pre-selected off-peak days of the year. All holidays, Saturdays and Sundays are blacked out, as well as peak periods such as midsummer, the winter holidays and spring break. If you want admission on one of the blackout days, you can get in for the reduced rate of $30. A parking pass, valid on the same days as the annual pass, costs $40 extra.
$129 Southern California Annual Passport - Valid 205 pre-selected off-peak days of the year. All holidays and Saturdays are blacked out, as well as peak periods such as midsummer, the winter holidays and spring break. Unlike the Southern California Select pass, you are able to visit on off-season Sundays with this pass. If you want admission on one of the blackout days, you can get in for the reduced rate of $30. This pass offers some restaurant discounts. A parking pass, valid on the same days as the annual pass, costs $40 extra.
$179 Deluxe Annual Passport - Valid 320 pre-selected days of the year. Holidays and peak-season Saturdays are blacked out. If you want admission on one of the blackout days, you can get in for the reduced rate of $30. This pass offers some restaurant discounts. A parking pass, valid on the same days as the annual pass, costs $40 extra.
$279 Premium Annual Passport - No blackout days. With this pass, you can visit both of the parks 365 days a year if you wish! Includes parking, a subscription to Disney Magazine, and many restaurant and shopping discounts

Even if you did it on the last day that you were there, you could apply the full purchase price of your park hopper pass towards an AP. The caveat is that the AP will be dated from the day that you first used your park hopper pass.
I know sometimes people will get a park hopper pass and upgrade to say a deluxe AP on the last day. They do this in case they would have been effected by blackoutdays during the trip.
The amount you will have to payf or the upgrade will be dependent upon which type of AP you want to purchase. You must purchase an AP that is more expensive than your current ticket media.
