So what's the first hand experience lately on this? I truely think my kids are going to like the new kids menu's. I'm not so sure about them enjoying the table service. Especially since I'd like to plan some later in the evening when I think they will be hungry well before that. I'd like to be able to get them something counter service earlier in the evening then let them drive me nuts while I try to eat my dinner (lol) or send them to a kids club or something. So as i asked...anyone been able to trade 'down' like this?

I have not had experience with it, but I have to imagine that they would not allow this. Especially since they are separating the kids & adults TS's but not the CS's.

Well if I went and said I want to trade a kids table service I would end up with a kids counter service meal...I'd have to differentiate which table service I want to use. People have said they did this before and during free dining last year (i dont know if it extended past that) people were allowed to trade a table service for 2 counter service (?) or lanyards or something. I am hoping that there will be some people who can tell me they still have since the latest changes.

Last year the restaurants were all booked up so they allowed an exhcange of 1TS for 1CS + 2 snacks (plus a lanyard or poster or something like that). I don't think that continued after the FDP was over and I'm not sure if they will offer something similar this year as they've limited the dates the FDP is available this year.

I believe it was allowed only during the free dining period because there were so many folks there without TS ADRs that they would have a lot of angry people on their hands if they weren't able to use those TS credits.

I did do it last yr, but it was during the free dining period for one TS credit that we had left.

From the Dining Plan FAQ:
Can I use TS credits for CS meals?
No. During the last free dining promotion, Disney did extend an offer to use TS credits for CS meals (plus two snacks and a cheap lanyard), but that offer has expired. Prior to that offer, some (but not all) hotel front desks allowed some (but not all) guests to convert some of their remaining TS credits in the CS credits, with the understanding that once converted they cannot be converted back. However, that is not an official part of the Dining Plan, and so you may or may not be successful in getting them to do that for you.

Can I use two (or three) CS credits for a TS meal?
No. There is no way to combine CS credits to "pay for" a TS meal.

Can I exchange CS credits for snacks?
No. However, some eateries which support both CS and snack credits will allow you to use one CS credit for two or three snacks. That's not a standard thing, though, and it isn't necessarily consistent either.

As others have alluded to, the exchange offered last year during the free dining promotion was offered because Disney was clearly surprised by how many guests took advantage of the promotion, and recognized that they didn't have sufficient capacity to serve all the guests' TS needs. We've read reports repeatedly here of Disney CMs indicating that Disney learned their lesson, and will not make the same mistake this year, and so the apparent underlying reason for offering the exchange last year will not exist.

Just got back last night. When we ate at our last TS meal on Wed, the waitress said we had 1 TS credit left (one night only 6 of us ate dinner instead of 7) and said if we went to the front desk of the hotel and asked, we could exchange the TS for CS or some snacks. So, when I checked out, I asked and they did this with no problem. All she did was changed it in the computer and it was on our card right away.

Thanks. This really wasn't a big deal but as I was preparing to call and make my adrs I thought it'd be nice to do some later meals. I dont think I'll count on it but I might ask when I'm there.
