Well, as some of you know, I am a bonafide Trading Spaces FAN! I just love the show and usually am very impressed with the results. We have a great kitchen that could use some cosmetic updating, and we live in a historical home that has lots of character. Our neighbors are AWESOME- so much fun, lively, and I asked her if she watched the show. She got a big grin on her face and said "Yeeesssss." I said, "Do you want to apply and see what happens?" She laughed and said, "Totally!" So, I know our chances are 1 in 1000's to even get a second glance, but I am sending in our application on Tuesday! :bitelip:

I hope you don't get feathers or hay on the walls
That I don't think I could live with
Good luck. I'm too picky to go on that show. I wouldn't be able to give that much control to strangers

Hope you get to do it! I've only seen the show a few times, but I was facsinated. What a job in such a short time. Probably things you would never have thought of if you did it yourself.
Good luck!

I just hope that Hildy doesn't get either house!

Good luck to you and your neighbor. I finally have a neighbor that I'd do this with, but it's not a great idea when I'm planning to move in 5 or 6 months! Can you imagine a realtor trying to explain?

Good luck! I think it'd be so much fun to do Trading Spaces--although they'd have to have some oxygen on standby for me if Hildi were my decorator! I hope you and your neighbors make it, and if Ty's your carpenter, pinch his bottom for me!:bitelip: :bitelip: :bitelip:

That is so cool!!!! Here's some pixie dust for good luck!!!

How long does it take to hear something???

I hope you get it then you can let us all know exactally what goes on!!!

Boy, you've got more guts than me! That is exciting though, let us know if you do.

Good luck!! That would be awesome!

Great! I hope you get on!

DH and I were talking about doing it, also, but the only room left to do in our home is DS bedroom and he won't let us do it!

Tell me, if chosen, do you have any input on colors you absolutely cannot live without or who your designer is? There are a few designers I would not allow to step foot in my home and there are a lot of styles and colors I don't like.

Keep us posted on how it goes!

Here's why I think they won't go TOO haywire in our house:
It's 106 years old....from all the episodes I have watched (at least half), most of the designers back off a little bit when it's an old home with a lot of character.

And I know, I know, I know....Hildi can be a crazy designer. BUT, about 1/2 of the rooms I have seen Hildi do are quite elegant and beautiful.

You know who I would be truly bummed to see walking into my house??????? Kia. I just don't like anything she has done. Period.

I have beautiful, brand new Pergo floors that I "think" most designers would be excited to see because it is the top of the line Pergo that was professional installed AND it is the same flooring throughout the entire downstairs----they wouldn't have to touch the floor. And it would ruin the symmetry of the house if they messed up the kitchen as our house is long and narrow and the Pergo is laid the long way of the house. The cabinets however.........yikes.......they definitely need to either be taken off-sanded-repainted, or replace the doors entirely. The countertop is very cheap gray laminate. I would hope that they would paint the walls, paint the cabinets, replace the countertops and build us a pantry of some sort. We have a new dining set, but we bought it at Cost plus (think Pier 1) and it was maybe $600 for a table and 6 chairs. If they painted them tastefully, I wouldn't freak. And I think if we got one of the following designers: Doug, Frank, Laurie, Genevieve, Vern (although I don't think he's on anymore), Barry, Edward or Christy, they would work with the color of the floor (a warm honey color) and go from there. I "think." I am still out on Rick----I haven't decided if I like him yet or not, and there is a new girl named Laura. My first choice would be Laurie to work on our kitchen, then maybe Gen or Edward.

I think it's an adventure, and there are very few rooms that I have thought were so hideous I would have cried if they were mine.

And sure, I'll give Ty a pat for ya! I have no idea how long it will take to hear anything....I do know that TS Family is wanting people in CA to apply right now- I know that TS and TS Family generally tape in the same vicinity at the same time, so maybe when they are done in CA, they will move up to OR and WA. I hope!

Do you have any input on what not to do in the room? If we did Trading Spaces, I would like Frank and Edward as the designer for the room. When Hildi does not go over the top, her rooms are elegant like you said. But, the only room that is still white walls and blah is DS and he would not like his room done. Actually, Clean Sweep needs to hit his room!!!!!

You know what I would like? I would like Monster House to come to our home and do a Key West Florida home. (I would really love a Disney home, but I think there are copyright things involved there.) Also, they are only doing homes in California and Nevada.

Sounds awesome to me!! And...there's really nothing that you can't "undo" if you really hate it anyway right! Good luck!

What fun! I hope you get accepted. How exciting would that be to have a DISer on that program!

Alice, if you do get on Trading Spaces, remind Paige that you're a Disney fan....she was on tour in Beauty and the Beast, you know.:D (She should have been Belle)

From what I have read on websites and the TS books I have, you do tape a video of what your tastes are, what you would like to see done in the room, and what you would prefer not be touched. I have even heard designers say (usually the nice ones like Frank and Edward), "Well, I know the homeowners really wanted a armoire, so let's do something like that for them." The designers also go through your entire home to get a sense of your style, you preferences of color, etc. Now, whether or not they follow that is up to them. Since we are a younger family, (I'm 31, DH is 34 and we have two boys ages 2 and 6) I think they might do something a little fun and whimsical, but practical. I put on my application that our kitchen/dining area is the largest room in our house and I want to maximize the storage and space in it---old houses DON'T have lots of storage space (our bedroom closets are like 3 feet wide!) and that I also hold monthly scrapbook classes in my kitchen/dining area so it needs to be functional. As far as color goes, we mostly have cool colors in our home- blues, violets, greens, although I do have punches of bright red in my living room and my kitchen is currently yellow with a bright blue trim (I hate the bright blue- what was I thinking!). There pretty much isn't any color that I hate, but there are hues of colors I hate- like neons...but again, who would put a neon room in a house that's 106 years old and has the crown molding, rosettes in the door trims, etc? It doesn't "go."

Thanks for the votes of confidence! And I did put on my application that I have a strange obsession for all things Disney! And the picture I sent in was of us as Animal Kingdom- I wrote on the back, "If we can brave Walt Disney World with our ENTIRE family (our parents and kids are in the picture too) we can handle the craziness of Trading Spaces!!" :teeth:

Edward did a friend's gameroom. It turned out great! They were featured in a layout for Lowe's Home Imp. magazine. Meg said that there are alot of helpers that you don't see on TV. She said Ty had 2 assistants and seamtresses helped the designers with the sewing! Good Luck!

Lori

I find that I like parts of what they do but there are some parts that I absolutely hate. I hate when they paint ceilings colors.
