Can anyone give me some advice?

Being new to DVC ('03) I 'messed up' and now have 34 points in 'holding' that must be used by 2/1/05.

I know I could most likely rent out the points.

I would also like to buy the same # of points for next year.

We are planning to take our kids on the DCL in March '05 and I'll need all the points that I can get.

Also, if I rent these points...What do I do after a price has been agreed upon????

Points in Holding must be used before the end of the Use Year AND they can only be used for a stay booked on 60 days notice or less.

Since the DVC resorts are pretty much booked solid through the end of the year, your best bet is to rent them to someone for a trip in January '05. Due to the 60-day rule, you'll want to begin looking for a renter in November.

34 points isn't a whole lot--that would barely get you 2 weeknights in a 1B at OKW.

You could approach this two ways--either start scanning the rent/trade board for someone looking for points for a January stay. Again, you'll have to wait at least a month before you could make the reservation, so you'll have to find someone that is willing to take a chance. Points typically rent for $10 each and up. Due to your unique situation, you may have to price in the $7-8 range to get rid of them.

The other thing you could do is wait until November 1, and post that you have 34 points for use by 1/31/05. You may get some bites, or you may not.

Either way, I think the best way to move things along would be to discount the points. Better to get $8 per point than $0.
