trading pins????

It all started during the Milenium celebration. Pin trading was the thing of the year 1999. Then it really kicked in and Di$ney decided to continue the tradition.

It is fun, but I think it is highway robbery too. I saw pins in 1999 that I assumed were sold out by now. Back then they sold for a little under $5. Last month we saw several of the exact same pins, made over 3 years ago, selling for almost $9!

So cast members, when they feel like it, wear lanyards and trade pins with guests... Some collectors turned very compulsive and outrageous, so some CMs now only trade with children or just choose not to wear lanyards.

We got two lanyards with pin on them as part of our package. The CM said she would trade with us but I said no thanks. Will probably give pins to my dad he's a pin collector when ever he goes on vacation he buys a pin.

Thanks for clearing up the confusion for me. I wanted to say that it looked like a big $ scam for Disney but didn't want to come out and say it until I had the facts. I guess we all have to collect something. I'm obsessed with finding unique italian charms so I guess it's just about what your into.

Our DD(4) absolutely LOVED trading the pins.....it was easily one of the highlights of her trip and we had to get a hook for her bedroom so she could hang up her lanyard....

I have purchased about 10 different pins on ebay for my daughter to use when trading. I made sure they were ones that she liked so she wouldn't be disappointed if no cast member offered to trade. She is shy and I can't see her initiating a trade.

I have a question. Part of our package is a free lanyard from ASMu. Are these good quality and will I be able to hang our room card on it?

Thanks!

I didn't think my dd's would care about this at all but was I wrong. dd 8 traded every chance she got. dd 15 only traded once - for the pewter castle in MK, but used her souvenier money to buy pins at her favorite rides and at each park. It turned out great for her. She has it hanging in her room and each pin reminds her off something fun.

I've got two lanyards full... and thats just from my last two trips. I think I have a problem:p

We love the pin trading!!! We purchased some cheap trader pins and used those to trade with the CMs on our last 3 trips.

We went with another family last Thanksgiving and I have never seen such a pack of pin pirhana in my life. Between the 2 families we have 7 kids, none of which are very shy. Anytime one of them saw a CM with a lanyard they would ALL surround the poor soul and trade away. It really was a sight.

All 4 adults were trading too. I think the CMs got to where they would see us coming and run screaming into the night. :smooth:

I love Pin Trading!!!!!!!! I'm obssed with it!!!! Everyone should try it!!!!:earseek: :earsboy: :earsgirl: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

I also love pin trading but dont fall in the "shark" catagory- I look at them as a cheaper and easier to store alternative than other hobbies and colelctions.. I collect only symbolic pins and ones for my 4 "favorites" Lilo, Bear in the Big Blue House, Monorails and Rock N Roller Coaster- I keep them either in frames once a set is done or on my cork board- Im already trying to get my pin budget set for may... :P I think they make excellent memory markers for specific memories

The funny thing is we got a poster of walmart pins we can buy from work- Geez those cost a whole 1.25 each...(needless to say I bought oh 12)

Any time you can find an activity where adults willingly interact with children kids will come out of their shell. I have never seen such introverted children become downright BRAVE to approach an adult and ask to trade.

Everyone should encourge their child to participate at least one trip.
