Trading Pins on Ebay?

This is pointless, so don't buy scrapper pins, don't trade for scrapper pins....it is really that simple. We might as well be discussing if it is OK to go 10 miles over the speed limit because the state patrols will let you....still against the law, unless of course you are THAT person driving 55 and everyone is trying to get around you. What folks do with scrappers might be against your ethical and moral views but like I said it really is a pointless argument. The days of finding that super rare pin on a cast members lanyard is over, i'm not saying it is right, but it is over. It is a very poor business decision on your part to buy a $7-$12 dollar pin and then trade it away for what you think is a scrapper. Buy what you want and keep them, YOU know they are real. I think Disney years ago have noticed the trend that it is more cost effective to produce the $12-$14 dollar premium pins that are impossible to find on lanyard, lets get real we buy those and they have decided to allow these $1.00 scrapper pins to populate the lanyards. I would challenge you to find a real authentic Disney bought pin on a cast members lanyard these days, oh they might be there because of the starter sets bought with the lanyards but after the vacation is over I would say as high as 90% of vacationers go straight to ebay. You and I can argue, pleasantly of course till we are blue in the face on the rights and wrongs of ebay scrapper pins but the truth of the matter is Disney does little(nothing) to control it and they are more than happy selling you that moving, opening and spinning premium pin for $15+. I would believe they are still out far ahead selling the special premium pins versus trying to control the unauthorized pins. Hey kuddos for you for your high moral standards, hopefully you don't drive a notch above the speed limit...because of course that would be wrong...right? but remember this, it is still a piece of metal with a sharp pointy thing, it is called a pin and you don't need to look out for Disney's best interests, they have lawyers for that.

I'll go one step further. I'm pretty passionate about this because our daughters love trading, but i'll go one step further. If 90% of the pins on cast members lanyards are unauthorized.....how much would it cost Disney to replace those pins with actual Disney authorized pins? I think the price would be staggering. There was this rumor one time circulating that Disney removes the scrappers each night but I call bogus on that rumor. From time to time I cannot get cast members to smile let alone trying to weed out the scrapper pins, on a side note I do enjoy this discussion

Lol, because Disney is expensive it is ok to buy and exchange counterfeit products?

It is amazing what people rationalize.

Okay, Burned Out - the Mickey gloves are off :) I said I was not looking to get into an argument and was merely giving my opinion on the matter. You cannot prove that the pins I trade are counterfeit. You have no way to know, no one does. I don't even know. As the professionals here have even stated, no one can tell. If we buy a pin for $15.00 off of ebay that some person is selling because there child is no longer in to that character or if they are selling a counterfeit product - there is no clear way to know. The solution is to go to the parks and purchase the pin which for many is not a financial option. Some people have scraped every dime just to get their kids to Disney in the first place. So, those kids should not be allowed to share in the tradition of pin trading when there is a viable alternative out there such as ebay??

On another note, do you think Disney created the pins and pin trading for your enjoyment?? Everything that any company does is to make a profit. If it doesn't turn a profit, it goes away.

On a personal note...I never cast a stone at someone who makes a choice I might not agree with. Unless you have lived an entire life of purity and perfection, you cannot cast a judgement on others. My advice to you is relax if you're burned out, chill and be careful as you walk on that water, you just might fall in.

No one can prove anything. You are right. I guess I can come home and sell the second week of my yes ticket and all the extras on it. It won't be signed and no one will be able to tell. And those people might not ever get a chance to go to a water park unless I help them out. It is all just a rationalization to buy something that is very likely stolen.

I do cast stones when people advocate buying stolen property. Even when the poor little kids VISITING DISNEY might miss a chance to do something.

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: This is the best night reading. Luv luv luv you all :grouphug:

I got in some good belly laughs tonight and for that I'm happy. Donta worry, be a happy :flower3:

:thumbsup2 I'm not sure my 4 year old grandson will see a difference. It's just a fun activity and to the other poster. I beg to differ, these are most certainly NOT stolen pins. At the end of the day 'They are just pins' :grouphug:

I agree that they aren't stolen. I do agree that some are made without Disney authroization. I agree that they are just pins, and I know some of the ones I got from e-bay are scrapper, I also know (from inspecting them) that some of the ones I traded from CM's are scrapper, but I have a story and a memory behind those, and I'm not going to get rid of them. :grouphug:

AND as for counterfeit purses... I once saved my $$$$ to buy an original guess 'wallet' and went into the store in Chicago dedicated to ONLY Guess - when I asked the sales lady prior to handing over $2,000 for a 'wallet' how do I know this is 'real' her reply? 'Your pocketbook will be the only one who knows' SERIOUSLY?????

My pocketbook and I don't have that kind of relationship :rotfl2:
Happy Wednesday ya'll :flower3:

I know! How bad is that?? I have several "fake" Guess purses and you know what, I would rather spend $40 than $4000. If I had $4000 to spend on whatever I wanted, I would be in Disney right now, not showing off a purse! LOL!

I'm never ever going to buy great value or western family or my local grocery and discount store or dollar store merchandise anymore because there all scrapers. Maybe Kia"s and Hundai's too. I can't believe it. Somebody copied the car and made it cheaper.

I know. I know. RFID chips in trading pins. And you cn only trade once every two and half minutes lest you become pin guzzler. Really, do we want Disney to take control of this?

LOVE. THIS.

Just curious of people's experiences purchasing lots of trading pins off of eBay. Worth it ? Not worth it? Are they genuine disney pins? I've heard some people warn of cheap imitation pins made in china that are not accepted in the parks for trading... For anyone who's done it, do you recommend any particular sellers for quality of pins and service?

on my trip in Oct I plan to buy off ebay and trade for pins that I like. I am not looking for best buy pins i just want to have fun trading with cms and others.:)

I have bought a bag of pins from ebay and used them for traders. Didn't have a problem.

That's what we did for our trip back in July. We also supported and bought 'real' pins at Disney World and Disney Store (before our trip) that we knew were legit, of course we won't trade those. My kids and especially my husband had fun looking and asking to trade whether scraps or not (we didn't get questioned about the pins we traded). Just fun to do and hoping to get fav. characters. Honestly, I can't tell from the real ones and scraps ones.

I have a solution for the serious pin collector. Just buy the pins from Disney! :)Don"t trade.:confused3 Just buy from where you trust. That way you are sure to get what you feel is REAL. The others on here that are like my son and husband that just like to trade for the fun of it buy them where ever you can afford them. Trade with others in the park if they want to trade if not just keep what you buy. Personally I think it is stupid to pay any where from $7-$15 for a pin then go trade it any way. If you have paid that much for a pin you must have wanted, why trade it? Just let the others trade and have a good time meeting people. After all I am pretty sure that is what it started out for. To have fun and talk to others. Have fun and don't judge. There are people that just want to trade for the fun of it and can"t buy 50 pins in the park for those prices and still be able to go on vacation to trade them. Just buy what you feel is real and live and let live. :rolleyes1

There is an old thread on pinpics that says That Disney's cost on a simple one layered authorized metal pin is around $.02 cents. Disney pays more for the rubber back and pin card than they do on the actual pin. They are making money hand over foot. With that kind of return, Disney might be well aware of the problem and maybe there is a solution in the works, but for now....buy where you want and have fun. Let the moral and ethical police think what they want. lastly the whole "scrapper" label is NOT acknowledged by Disney, that is a term used by pro collectors and pin sharks
