Trading for Hawaii?

Thank you so much Dean for the advice! I am not interested in renting out points because of the hassle just looking at the rent/trade board gives me hives. I ddn't know any other timeshares were on Oahu - I need to check that out.

We may end up just banking the points staying in a hotel on Waikiki and be done with it
One can usually get a fairly good deal on priceline for Waikiki if you know what you're doing and look at info such as biddingfortravel.com. I named the timeshares I'd prefer to stay at. There are a few others but not that I'd trade DVC or similar for. I do find it interesting how some shy away from renting so but are willing to do exchanges which have much more overall risk IMO. And that includes II and DCL especially.

For me it is really dealing with the renters. I am not interested in the headaches of people who do not understand DVC and all of the requests. The rent and trade board is full of people and their unrealistic expectations and drama (I know that is a real over generalization).

My luck I would get a renter who smoked and end up with a bill!

You are correct that we can find a deal on Waikiki which is more than likely what we will end up doing. If we cannot get Ko Olina then we will just go to Plan B. We used a ton of points for a family reunion so by banking we can give back to our 08 UY

I really appreciate your feedback!!

As I noted I feel the risk is far more in exchanging than renting but I wouldn't want to pressure you into something you were not comfortable with. Same for the aggravation in many ways. There are ways to minimize any risk or hassle and they are far more controllable in a rental situation than for an exchange. I feel that many members have preconceived ideas that simply are not accurate. Good luck, let us know how it works out.
