I spoke with MS today, since I was going to attempt to trade some points for some time in Hawaii. She informed me that a new memo had just come out saying that effective July 1, if you call and ask to have the $75 search to trade done for you, they will assign you whatever comes up. I confirmed with her that this means no more phone call and 48 hour turn around to say yeah or neah and she said that is correct. This was new from yesterday when I first inquired about it. Just wanted to pass this on to everyone!

This is consistent with the way II normally does things. Unfortunately for DVC members this was one of the major positives to DVC exchanging and one of the reasons that I've tended to remind people thinking of buying in that this system could easily change for the negative. Apparently making the $75 exchange fee "non refundable" was meant to curb casual searches and did not appear to work well for this purpose. It simply means you should not search for things/times you are not prepared to accept. For II in general you can cancel any exchange within 24 ours of the match like it never happened. We'll see if this is incorporated into the DVC version, I would bet so if this change actually is forthcoming.

Thanks, Dean! I appreciate your input. I hope that is how it ends up!
Personally I hope DVC stops doing this and simply lets member join II if they want. Regardless, members need to become more serious and committed when placing exchange requests. The key is simply not to request anything that you won't accept without then checking with you. I suspect this thing of them calling then checking air and calling them back to say yes or no will be a thing of the past but we shall see.
