Can anyone shed some light on what the wait's been like lately to get into Trader Sams? Am I going to have to stand in line to put my name on a list and come back later? We have Cirque tickets Thursday at 5:30, and I'd like to get in sometime after that.

Yes, at WDW you put your name in, and people often start to line up an hour or two before opening. Depending on where you are in line, you might get in once they open. If not, depending on when you get your name in and where you are on the list, you could be called back at any time. Once called, I think we had 15 minutes to return. It is not a long window of time to get back, so it's not advisable to leave the Polynesian.

If you don't put your name in earlier, you may not get in. There is an outside patio with the same drink menu and you should be able to sit there. They *may* take your name at 7:30pm, but no guarantee you will get inside seating. Good luck! We put our name in at about 4pm and got called back around 9pm, and this was in September, a quiet time. YMMV.

We swung by there last week at put our name in as soon as they opened. 2 hour wait right at the start.

Thanksgiving week I would go earlier. I’ve read of reviews stating 3-4 hr waits. Maybe grab some QS if that ends up being the case. Kids cannot go in after 8 pm.

In August we got in line at 1pm. We were first in line when they started taking names at 1:30. We got called back right at 3pm and were the 2nd party in the door, so we got to sit at the bar. It was fun, and the drinks were good, but if we hadn't been staying at the Poly on a "resort only" trip, I wouldn't have wasted the time hanging around when I could be in a theme park.
