Trader Sams: what am I not getting about it

@DizMe yes he kept the Uh-Oa! mug and he used it often, both my oldest son and I have one plus I have the Nautilus from WDW. I love the Piranha mug too, picked up one in Green and the Gold. I'll PM you the Uh-Oa! recipe.

Asked/Wiki Answered: At the risk of sounding like a dinosaur lol --- remember when there was something like a Trader Sams / Adventurer's Bar or something on Disney's Pleasure Island in Orlando? Does that venue exist in some form today? (I just found this on wiki about the Adventurer's Club for history buffs https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adventurers_Club) Sadly, it does not indicate the venue was actually picked up anywhere else...

@TinkAgainU the Adventurers Club is gone. Many of us wish they would bring it back in some form, but it's doubtful. There are some tip of the hat to the Adventurers Club in Trader Sam's. Greeting a Skipper with the phrase, "Kungaloosh" may or may not get a response. There is also an off menu drink, though the recipe is different from the old AC called Kungaloosh as well as a few artifacts that you can learn about.

TDS also has a nice throw back shirt available right now online. Adventurers Club.png

Sadly, they sold out of adult sizes within hours.

I sit at the bar. I love it! So much fun watching the activities and the bartenders. I have 2 different mugs from there. I actually have reservations for Valentine's Day :jumping1:

My husband doesn't care for Trader Sam's - he doesn't like the seating or the beer on tap. My kids like it and I enjoy the interactivity but I agree with my spouse about the drinks. He feels the same way about the Hanger Bar at DS.

Does anyone have a guess how big a Medium of the Adventurer's Club tshirt (or any similar Disney shirt) would be? I usually don't buy Tees online except from Etsey, but get a Large in Unisex and it looks like these might run large?

If you've tried it 3 times and just don't "get it" it is clearly not for you.
Not everything is for everybody.

Absolutely! I liken it to my 4th grade teacher's advice on books - 3 chapters' chance and if I'm not into it by the end of chapter 3 (or page 30 if it's something like a Dan Brown book with super short chapters), I return it to the public library or put it in a neighborhood "take one/leave one" book box if I'd bought it. But I'll admit that when money is involved (food/drinks, travel, etc.) I tend to be a one-shot and that's it person.

But yeah, not everyone has to like the same things. There are plenty of things most people are gaga over (Star Wars, New Orleans, Las Vegas are the top 3 that come to mind for me) that I cannot stand. I'm not wasting my time or money on those.

@DizMe Good advice on the reservations! I’ll be curious how long they keep the system in place.

I had fun taking my 21 year old son to TS too, he conquered his first Uh-Oa! that night... I didn’t get much of it lol

@katherine52478
Yeah I needed a place for my mugs too, talked my wife into giving up our dining room to turn into a Tiki Bar ;) Still a work in progress but it's been fun. Gets more use than the dining room ever did too!

This is fantastic! Where is the wicker style background for cabinets from? I was trying to pull something off like this myself but failed miserably haha!

@MouseWithNoName Than you! I really had fun with those. I was able to pick up two pretty standard 90s/00s Oak entertainment center shelves. I didn't want them as deep as they were so I pulled the back off, then cut them in half so they were shallower you can see this in the 1st photo. Then used a dark gel stain to cover the medium oak look. I started off with two of them, I paid $40 for the pair then got two more that matched pretty close. I used some Lauhala Matting from Forever Bamboo to sandwich between the frame and the old backing. I glued the matting to the old backing. These took a while to build, the cutting down and staining was a slow process. But I wasn't going for perfection I actually wanted it to look a bit "used". Oddly enough I started off with the 2 and then needed 4 for the # of mugs, I could add a 5th and I may do that. But before I add more I'm working on the rest of the bar & lounge area.

Looks perfect! Love the lighting, and the work you put into it really shows!

There are so many other places you can go and have a blast.

As the person who created the post, I gotta' respectfully disagree that it is clearly not for me. I love all the enthusiasm for TS and I got many great ideas about why people like it so much AND what was missing when I was there: I've never had a seat at the bar and it was so crowded each time I couldn't see or experience much of anything. You might be right that I won't still get it and that remains to be seen in April--fingers crossed they are still doing ADRs.

Thanks for all the wonderful thoughts and input.

I'm up to like 5 display cases worth of mugs these days. EVERY Disney mug from both coasts TS, nearly all Pixar cast member mugs, and a ton of others which piqued my fancy. I may have a mug problem.
