Trader Sams- 21 and over?

So it's ridiculous...for a bar...not to allow children during nighttime hours..?

You can take your kids to the bar during the day then. Or I suppose protest and vote with your wallet...

<-- How I feel about your response.

I agree with you 175%. I truly have no clue how ANYONE is upset or opposed to the age-restrictions of one place or even if they were to befall the lounges at 9 or 10:00 PM.

They have 43 square MILES of Disney World property that their kids are welcome to.
Is putting age restrictions on a few adult-oriented bars/lounges going to hinder their experience? What adults want to take their kids to a primarily adult bar/lounge at 9:00 to midnight anyway?

It's bad enough parents wine about seeing 'drunk' individuals who aren't even drunk in Epcot, now they're opposed to a place SOLELY for adults and to drink? How about the THOUSANDS of guests with no children? There should be an escape for adults without children and even those WITH children.

The best part is, "Disney is a place for families." Okay, well our family doesn't have young children in it and I don't want to sit at the bar ordering a tequila flight at 11pm with your 10 year old next to me.

It's 4 hours in one small bar. There will be a patio where you can get the same drinks and food with kids in tow after 8. There is a second bar upstairs where kids are allowed all the time. It's rather like what happened after Victoria & Alberts was closed to children under 10. There were persons protesting that exclusion that didn't even have any intention of taking their children there. Some are either insulted regarding the idea that their children should be restricted, or they believe having such a restriction sullies the reputation of a Disney establishment (although Trader Sams in California has the same restriction, and there are at least three 21 and over nighttime venues left at WDW [Rix Lounge, Jellyrolls and Atlantic Dance] and you don't see widespread complaints about any of those)

I'm hoping for a BUNCH of age-restricted night life options in Downtown Disney one day. The clubs and bars we go to in AC or Vegas don't even begin letting people in until 11pm.

Disney is a place for families, in my opinion. It is also my opinion that this no more of a bar setting than any of the other lounges offered at disney. My family enjoys grabbing a drink and desert/snack after dinner (I'm not really into boozing at 4pm).

And there are literally HUNDREDS of places for you to do this. If you want to "booze" with your kids it's not like you won't be able to find a place. (It's a little curious that you considering going to a bar with kids "boozing" but...)

I fail to get the "entitlement" that seems to occur here that "my child should be allowed EVERYWHERE" Why? I am an adult, I can't check myself into the kids clubs... so why can your child be taken to the adult clubs?

And when you say "Disney is for families" what you really mean is "who only look like my family" because a family of all adults is welcome to "booze" at Trader Joes.

But thanks to parents who think "no one will mind if my child is in the bar bored and screaming" I am sure Disney will cave. After all they can set up some special drink and charge you $40 for it LOL!

That's all it is, self-entitlement.
Most of those opposed don't even have intentions on going and likely never even went to one of the lounges.

This is basically similar to most of the lounges and clubs on DCL ships. During the day, it is for anyone, but after a certain time, it is adults only. Disney knows that making all lounges/bars adult only will not work, but they also know that they have a large clientele of adults coming without kids, or with teenage/adult kids that can be left on their own.

I actually think it would be a good idea to have a few of these lounges around the WDW property for the later part of the evenings. Since most of the lounges and bars are open, it is not really realistic, nor should it be, to make those all 21+. It sounds like Trader Sam's may be fun and I hope to try it out some time. I would be great if they could come up with another smaller bar somewhere on property that was similar, but maybe with a quieter, relaxed feel.

Call me "entitled" if you want. And I

I don't mind it being adults only at night, but it's a shame the operating hours are so short. At DL, it's open 11:30am-1:30am (today's hours). DD15 loved it on our trip, but I think it's going to be difficult to get in with all the families who will want to go in that 4 hour window.

This exactly!

So I'm in the middle here. Honestly, it doesn't matter to me whether it's 21+ at night or not. I recall some significantly fun times at Pleasure Island in college. My husband and I usually do a post-dinner date night when we're at Disney in one of the lounges. When I'm back this summer for a convention-turned-girls' weekend, lounges are most definitely in the plan. I don't care whether kids are there during these times (with the exception of PI in college.) On the other hand, I don't mind that Disney decided to make Trader Sam's 21+ at night - that's fine too.

It would be nice to have longer operating hours for those of us with tiki-crazed teenagers! The DL Trader Sam's is great - we can stop by at any time in the afternoon and usually go early - like at 11:30 opening. Our 15-year-old has his tiki shirt packed and is excited to venture over to Trader Sam's at WDW. Not sure if we'll make it during the 4-8 time slot, but at least we know the rules. Not the end of the world if they don't extend operating hours, but would be nice at some point.

Call me entitled if that's what you want to do. And yes, I totally meant only "families that look like mine".

The big problem is these same "my kids can go anywhere folks" tend to fall into two groups

1. The my kids are angels group. This group thinks the rest of us enjoy watching their darlings scream, throw stuff, play tag, climb over the furniture and otherwise amuse themselves while the adults "booze" LOL!

2. The my kids are saints group. This group will try to make people "behave" because their kids are present by saying things to other guests about their language or actions. This group then comes on here and whines about "all the drunks at Disney" and seems to expect that since "Disney is for families" we should all act only as their family thinks is approrpaite. LOL!

When you point out to these people that they took their kid to an adult environment they get on their Disney is for everyone hobby horse . Just because Disney is for everyone doesn't mean everyone gets to do everything. I can't go to kids clubs, two year olds can't ride all the rides... it's not everyone does everything all the time. LOL!

I don't think they are all that entitled, just disappointed that they won't be able to just drop in during the evening with kids in tow.

I get being disappointed but I've been to California. Do you really want to go at night and cram your kids into this tiny place with loud noises, fake thunder, fake lightning, hollering bartenders and a bunch of roaring drunks? didn't think so. and before you ask "why didn't they just build something more family friendly" it's a huge success at the DL hotel - they built what they know works.

I know I've also experienced the parents who sit at the bar with their children and then express disgust that there are adults drinking at the bar. Not even a small and close area like Trader Sam's but somewhere like a resort lounge where the customers are not being all that terribly obnoxious or saying the F word every other utterance, just drinking. They're the minority although it's still astounding to see that.

To complain about the existence of ONE place in a 43 square mile property, that exists for the serving of alcohol, that excludes children at 9:00pm, is pure entitlement.

Say they get their way for Trader Sam's, that's fine. Now Disney propose a completely new concept for adult's only, they'll be stomping their feet over that too. "Why can't we experience this new place Disney has to offer? It's new and we've been customers of Disney forever, now we can't go here because we have children?" These people don't want to give an inch, they want to know they can do everything just to say they can.

Exactly. This is what I'd like to avoid as a patron. When DH and I had to wait 1+ hour to be seated at Ohana last year (which is another story altogether), and we were chilling at the bar waiting, some mother of 2 obnoxious children who were dancing around behind us and complaining they wanted to sit because their "feet hurt" said (loudly, so we would hear her) "Well, if these people who've been here drinking for the last hour would move, then you could."
Chil' please. I will not move my behind from my perch at the bar (or the bus seat, or the parade route I waited for the last hour for) so your children can SIT AT A BAR. Also, my bad for having fun on vacation and having a few cocktails.

That annoys me the most in a bar. The bar stools are for patrons, not for your tired kids.
Our last trip while waiting for our ADR at Yachtsman, we went over to the lounge there and there was a woman who had THREE kids on three separate stools, she got a water while her husband was the only one purchasing. FIVE seats for ONE person to order a drink.

Look you can bring your children from 4 to 8, I think that is pretty reasonable. The poly needs another bar especially since Ohana has taken over the Bar upstairs and you can't get near it.

What does a kid order in bar/lounge? Do they even make Shirley Temples anymore? Apparently they drink water.

As a 20 something, I REALLY hope this is true. Disney doesn't have a lot of adult only opportunities.
I can see lots of families being upset though, so I think it will be short lived.

Disney is a business first. As long as it stays busy, they know those offended parents where still open their wallets elsewhere on property.
