Trader Sams- 21 and over?

Disney is a place for families, in my opinion. It is also my opinion that this no more of a bar setting than any of the other lounges offered at disney. My family enjoys grabbing a drink and desert/snack after dinner (I'm not really into boozing at 4pm).

Disney is for everyone. Are you saying adults without kids shouldn't go to Disney? What about honeymooners? Retirees?

Families don't have to include children or minor children.

Hmmmm, I don't care one way or another about the age restriction, but the OP has me questioning getting into Bluezoo lounge with my 17 year old. I just tried to call, but no answer, so I sent an email. I had planned a late night supper at the bar of beers and apps/lobster rolls (and obviously soda for my teen).

DD22 and I might try this bar though. Sound like fun for frufru drinks.

I wouldn't let this anomaly mess with your head. You made the post the other day, right? As far as I recall, everyone told you it was OK. This is *different*, something not usual. Apart from Jellyrolls, all the lounges at WDW are open to all.

I did not say that at all. My words talked about a family friendly environment. This post was asking for opinions on the rule. My opinion is that I don't agree with it. I didn't realize the post was only for those with the opinion that agrees with you.

Yeah, that was me. :) The original post here specifically mentions Bluezoo, though. So . . . maybe . . . maybe I'm so overplanning at this point that it's beyond ridiculous. I suppose if they say no, we would just go somewhere else and this is really no big deal.

These are the same rules at Disneyland Trader Sam's. As a regular there during various hours from 3pm to far past midnight, I am happy for the rule.

I can't speak for the Polynesian location but in Disneyland it's a completely separate bar area/restaurant with limited indoor seating with a family friendly all day restaurant next door. DH and I don't have nor want kids and think the rules are fair. If you've ever been to Trader Sam's on a busy night at Disneyland trust me I don't think you'd want it any other way. It gets loud and fun but very crowded and definitely an adult friendly environment.

Seeing as there are so many other family friendly options during all hours I think it's fair. I know many people who save trader Sam's for a kid free trip or night as applicable.

I LOVE ours at DL so Im so excited to check out WDW's when I come in September. I dont mind the age restriction. The one at DL is small and can get loud so Im sure they were thinking the same thing. By the way does anyone know when it's set to open? And it's going to be at the Poly right? I havent been there in over 10 years!

I don't mind it being adults only at night, but it's a shame the operating hours are so short. At DL, it's open 11:30am-1:30am (today's hours). DD15 loved it on our trip, but I think it's going to be difficult to get in with all the families who will want to go in that 4 hour window.

It's not just the atmosphere, it's that those tiki drinks pack a very serious punch. The place will be full of drunks every night. While that is definitely my kind of place, I wouldn't take my daughter to Trader Sam's in the evening despite the fact that we always go there for lunch when we stay at the DLH.

I would bet that this gets expanded in short order, much the way breakfast was added at Be Our Guest. This place, if it is anything like the one at the DLH, is going to be screamingly popular. I bet they will add a lunch menu and perhaps even put some system in place to deal with the inevitable crowds.

This is a new BAR not a restaurant with a bar area. I feel the age restriction is both appropriate and welcome. There are very few spots where adults can relax without hordes of young children around. There are very many spots specifically for families with young children.

Since it has not opened in WDW yet, I am just stating what I thought it sounded like and what my SIL in DL says about the one out there. She said it was place with an inside bar for and then an outdoor section which served food and drinks. I wasnt stating that Trader Sams WASNT a BAR just that it seemed to me like a bar/restaurant from the description considering they serve things like cheeseburgers and apps. It doesnt bother me nor do I think its wrong or inappropriate. I respect the rules and understand why Disney makes them (and they have reasons for making these rules). I dont know what the Trader Sams at WDW is going to be. I dont know the logistics. I just observed something that caught my eye and wanted to see others thoughts considering all other lounges were open to everyone. Either way, cant wait to check it out next trip!

also one more quick thing.... and i am again only stating what i heard and read and not official information....but the Trader Sams in Disneyland allows children on the OUTSIDE patio (tables) but not INSIDE the bar past 8pm.

From Trader Sams page:
"While the Trader Sam's Enchanted Tiki Bar at Disneyland allows kids on the patio and inside the bar, at 8:30 PM kids are not allowed in the inside bar area and they are never allowed to sit up at the bar. Families are welcome but I would not think unattended kids will be allowed to hang out at the bar or patio."

It will be interesting to see how they uphold this, If it is true. At least you can take them in early. We will see how long it lasts. I can just hear the complaints now.

My concern is the rumor that there will only be 50 seats inside and 80 seats outside. Florida weather folks is not to be messed with. It will be real fun out there when we get one of our rougher rainstorms or during the middle of summer when its hot as the surface of the sun and humid to boot. I hope they have shade and fans

I'm not fussed about the restriction, but I recall plenty of kids at Adventurers Club (although it did seem too adult for them much of the time).

Isn't there a Coranado club 21+?
Rix is 21 plus - but it's run by an outside company and is very much a night club...

I respectfully disagree with your implied statement. Disney is NOT a place for just families with children. My husband and I are DVC owners and we visit often. Our children are grown and we go as a couple. I look forward to a rare "adult only" experience in our favorite vacation locale.

No, it is not common. But it is awesome. And no it is not considered a restaurant. It is a lounge that serves appetizers.

And they are telling you right now by setting these hours that after 8 PM this should not be expected to be a family friendly environment. there is no obligation that every single thing at WDW must be family friendly. If you want to bring your children while you get a drink after 8 PM, Tambu Lounge will be open.

Seating capacity at the indoor bar area is 47 at Disneyland and will be 51 at WDW so pretty similar. A small space.

The age restriction is for inside the bar...there likely won't be any such restriction regarding the adjoining outside patio.

As far as I know, minors have not been excluded from Bluezoo, not even from the lounge area.

I'm going to Trader Sams with my Disney family (my friends). They count as a family.

I never said that is was a place only for families with children. I said it was a place for families, meaning a family friendly environment. Again, we are all entitled to our opinions (even if that includes twisting my words around). I thought this was a place to share opinions, and discuss things, I guess I was wrong. I am also a dvc owner at multiple resorts, not sure what that has to do with the topic, but I'll add it in for the heck of it.

I completely understand. When you hear Disney you hear family friendly. It's what they've built their company around. There are lots of lounges at WDW. I rarely see children at them. Mostly adults. And they also did this to get the teen groups to stay away. Do you remember Pleasure Island? I once had a horrible experience when they decided to allow a teen group on the island.

Disney hasn't officially announced this. But there are many family friendly areas around the resort so I don't see this as an issue. Your opinions are welcome and I think that you are not alone in thinking this.

I for one, am not happy about an age restriction. I think it is ridiculous.

LOL...really?!? Disney is a place for "kids of all ages" not just families, so since almost all of the 21+ places at DTD/DS have been torn down, it stands to reason that they're replacing a couple here and there for the 21+ crowd.
DH and I (early 30's) travel to DW alone and I can tell you this is a sorely-needed addition to the property.

Plus, it's not like kids are NEVER allowed, just not after 8pm.
