Trader Joe's tote bags obsession

Yup, just give it a few months and the people who paid $100 for a grocery store tote bag on ebay will be feeling VERY silly.

I really wanna know...who paid more than $10 (if you REALLY want one) for one bag? My most expensive reusable bag is my fancy Harrod's one, 20 pounds. But it's a nice bag and well made!

If you go to sold listings on ebay, it looks like people are paying between $20-60. Someone even paid $105 + shipping for 20 of them lol

I mean...if it's $20 for all 4 bags, that's reasonable. I'll also give the benefit of the doubt that some people have no Tjs near by, at all. So if they really want them, they have to pay a higher price. But if it's per bag...heck no!

I would never wait in line for a bag ever, that includes fancy purses too. I am at the point in my life I am over stuff and want experiences instead. Time is more valuable and it will not be wasted in line to buy something, there is nothing I need that desperately. If it was related to something I needed for health reasons that would be the exception.

When we went to LA last summer my teens wanted to go to Erewhon (crazy expensive celebrity loved fancy grocery store). They got some expensive pressed juices and at check out they had canvas bags with the store name on it. I said to the cashier that we would like to buy one as a souvenir for my girls. The cashier literally said to me “are you sure?” I said to him maybe not since you asked me, how much is it? It was $50!! This bag was nothing special literally just a natural color canvas bag with block lettering with the store name on it. They had an insulated tote too so I asked him how much that was and it was $125. We laughed about the price with the cashier and didn’t purchase one, he too thought they were ridiculously priced. I thanks him for double checking instead of just ringing it up since he knew how expensive it was.

That's absolutely insane! I don't even care to check out that store. I saw the vlog with uncle roger and they bought some food to try, sorry but none of the food they got looked appealing to me, at all.

These bags are far better quality than the junk that Disney gets people to wait hours in line for.

I rarely get tote bags at point-of-purchase. We have so many--they're frequently given out. When our Aldi's opened, they gave everyone a free bag on their way in--since my whole family went, we have a collection, way more than I need for one grocery run.

Now, when we were in Maui, I made a point of getting Walmart's reusable bags, because they have Hawaii-specific ones (Target didn't). Hawaii requires reusable bags. But, the ABC stores gave you a nice bag, and if you saved receipts, $150 in sales could get you 3 "upgraded" bags. For the uninitiated, ABC stores are ubiquitous and sell sundries, liquor, snacks, souvenirs--very easy to spend $150 there. And the upgraded bags are sturdy and gorgeous. That was the last time I went out of my way to buy tote bags (2023).

Loved ABC stores in Hawaii. Bought many a jewelry pieces there. Ha.

My daughters have a few from the last release in navy and I have the sea foam one from this release. They’re great for when you just need to carry a few things. It’s currently my work purse because my regular purses have to smoosh into my desk drawer at work and I don’t want to damage them. It holds my wallet, keys, a book, and a water bottle all very well. I use the mini insulated ones for my lunch. I hear California stores were crazy, but I just walked up 5 minutes before the store opened and easily picked them up. No stress, no hassle and definitely a great value for $3. One lady I overheard said she likes them for gift bags since at $3 they’re cheaper than regular gift bags.

Pretty much the vast majority of the stuff they sell at Disney is junk. With the prices they charge you would expect it to be top quality.

Agreed! I was just going to grab my one, but when I heard that I decided to pick up two more. The kids always have birthdays they have to get gifts for.

Those bags came out about 2 weeks ago and I'll be shocked if some stores still have them laying around. The excitement is really all hyped by social media. Someone somewhere made a big deal out of it, then it's a snowball effect! Before you know it, these $2.99 bags is the hottest item in every town!
