Trade Home Resorts

I was just reading a thread about which home resort to choose and a question came to mind, "is there a way to change or trade to a different home resort through Disney (not resale) ??"

I know I could sell my contract on a re-sale site and then purchase the resort we wanted to change to, but I was wondering if Disney had a mechanism to do that (at some cost) ?

No, they don't. If you want to xhange your contract to a different home resort, you must sell resort you don't want and re-purchase the one you want. Even if you find someone willing to trade contracts with you, it would require a sell & buy transaction for each of you. Both would need to go through ROFR.

Some companies will do this but the only ones I know of require an additional retail purchase and the one's I know that will do so with points don't have a home resort priority window. Even if they did so, the cash spread would be likely to be more than selling and buying again anyway. Plus they'd almost certainly avoid doing so with non qualified points. They'd likely credit the amount originally paid toward a new purchase price rather than the now retail price for the trade in.

We are in the middle of this right now. Neither contract has closed but awaiting estoppel and rofr. We sold our OKW in that the points were no longer appropriate for us plus it ends in '42. We purchased in AKV with a more appropriate number of points for us plus gained 15 years as it ends in '57. We didn't actually sit down and crunch numbers but for us the added 15 years plus new home resorts makes sense for us.
