TR Oct/Nov 2012- Cowboys, casinos and pixie dust OH MY!

When we're being naughty it can get very bad when we combine our names to make dirty sentences, especially when we add in Bec's nickname Handy :rotfl2:

Naught naughty preschool/primary school teachers :lmao:

oh dear, you didnt mention you were :teacher:

now that kind of explains it now........:wave2:

Well almost, I hand in my very last assignment the first week of August :goodvibes That's why we're having this massive trip before we starting applying for full time positions, need some Disney magic pixiedust: to deal with going back to school full time for the rest of my life :crazy2: lol

I've been comparing the pricing for our tickets (as below) and the CityPASS works out cheaper but that means we only have 1 day at Universal because we'd be using the CityPASS at Disneyland first and miss out on the second day free at Universal because you need to use it there first.

People's thoughts, do you need a 2nd day at Universal Studios? Or can you get everything done if your there from open to close? We were planning a half day with the 2nd visit :confused3

-CityPASS (3 Day Disney hopper/Sea World/Universal) $275
-Disneyland upgrade to 4 day Hopper $61
-Sea World return Transport $50
TOTAL $386

-Sea World with transport $100
-Universal with 2nd day free $77
-Disneyland 4 Day Hopper $275
TOTAL $452

if it was universal orlando, i'd say definitely go for the 2nd day. it's awesome, and wwohp is amazing. since you're going to the universal in LA, i'd say 1 day would be plenty :)

Just bumping to let people know our most recent itinieray is up here: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2950364

Any suggestions would be much appreicated :flower3:

Also thoughts on the Citadel outlets, worth it or not?? I'm thinking of crossing off our planned LA shopping tour (which includes Citadel) and replacing it with another shopping day at a decent shopping center instead :confused3

Looks like you girls are going to have a blast! Oh to be young and carefree again.

I hope so! I don't reckon I'll be disappointed with Disney :cloud9: I already want to start organising a WDW trip too  But I'll do that after they have finished the Fantasyland upgrade :thumbsup2

I've decided to do my PRT here, in the inital thread I started because I only ever go onto the Australian board anyway lol

I would love peoples opinions of Knott's Berry Farm and of Citadel Outlets, are they worth it or not???

I'm thinking of scrapping Knott's and replacing with a fifth Disney day but Bec who is with me at that time is a coaster freak so I'm not sure :confused3 HELP! lol

Down to double digits!!! 95 sleeps :hourglass

your itinerary sounds amazing.

on first read through, i thought we were going to be at disneyland at the same time and on the same flight home, and i thought how cool is that??!?! then i realised you're coming back in nov. we're coming back in december.

silly leesha.

it sounds like you have a lot of your plans already sorted. we're at that horrible stage where we've prepaid for a lot of it and it's really just the spending/food money to save, plus money for tours/tips/extras and one lot of accom that we still have to pay for so it's despair time. our savings account is at $0 as we've just shelled out all our money, and we now have to save up even more!!!! lol.

wishing you all the best with the plans :) sounds like an awesome trip and sounds like a pretty full on trip !!!

Thanks :goodvibes

:rotfl: oops! That would have been cool though :thumbsup2

Yeah most is sorted, just slight shuffling of days and choosing between a few activities to make the most of it :goodvibes Yep same here, all of our accomodation and transfers are booked with most of the flights, only Vegas to San Fran and San Fran to LA to book so thats easy and buying our entry tickets :woohoo:

Thanks Alicia :flower3: I'm expecting to come back buggered! Thank goodness I'll have five days to recover before being avaliable for work :lmao:

Should be buying our halloween party tickets today :yay: just waiting for Sam #3 to reply :headache:

Is Knott's worth a trip or not? Really unsaure to keep this in :confused3 Bec & I have scrapped the LA shopping tour (the reviews were terrible :worried:) and we'll do South Coast Plaza + The Block at Orange instead :thumbsup2 on seperate days to make the most of our time :cloud9:

Found out that the Christmas season at DL will officially start on the 12th of November and means we will be seeing DL done up for Christmas on the last day of our trip :goodvibes: ahh my plan is working out perfectly!!!

Slight update in our plans, bit of rearranging for the second Anaheim leg.

Honestly I'm going to be dead tired each night and I don't think we'll actually hit everything we want to but we'll try :rotfl:

Updated Section of Itinerary- Anaheim
Sunday 4th Nov: Daylight savings is due to end, back to Anaheim to stay at Howard Johnsons, drop of our luggage and then head off to Knott's Berry Farm for a few hours for Bec to hit up the roller coasters rather then wasting a full day

Monday 5th Nov: Shopping at South Coast Plaza and Goofy's Kitchen for dinner
(Sam 2 & 3 are going to NYC for 5 days, 5th to 9th of Nov)

Tuesday 6th Nov: Sea World tour with pick up for Sam #1 & Bec

Wednesday 7th Nov: DL #2 for Toontown maddness if we can get tickets, possible Minnie & Friends late breakfast...need to discuss with Bec :rotfl2: Also going to a local discount dance store at some stage during the day.
(Not a full DL day though, mainly to try and see MTTM. If we don't get tickets we'll head into the park later for a few hours)

Thursday 8th Nov: DL/DCA #3, half day at each with a rest at the hotel in between

Friday 9th Nov: Split day shopping with a hotel break in between at both The Outlets at Orange and Main Place mall only hitting up the shops we want to go to
(Sam 2 & 3 fly back to LA)

Saturday 10th Nov: DCA #4 includes doing Princess Lunch in DCA and then into DL to watch fireworks and fantasmic

Sunday 11th Nov: Sam 1 & Bec going to Surf's up with Mickey breakfast, then pack up day and last minute shopping in Downtown Disney & Garden walk.
Maybe going over to the Metrocenter at Fullerton to try In N Out burger and check out the character warehouse

Monday 12th Nov: DL/DCA #5 to see DL done up for Christmas, hopefully with enough time to catch the Xmas parade if its started, fingers are crossed for this
Then back to the hotel room to get changed and refreshed for a 10.20pm flight from LA to Syd

Tuesday 13th Nov: Technically loose this day flying

Wednesday 14th Nov: Arrive Syd Am, go home and sleep all day/night ready for Breaking Dawn Part 2 at Midnight

If you had to choose one would you pick The Outlets at Orange or Main Place Mall?? I'd love to attempt to see both BUT I don't see that happening in one day :lmao:

Now that I have investigated the 14 day DL pass I think Bec and I will get them because its going to cost us an extra $40 compared to the way we were going to buy our tickets and it gives us more flexibility. Too bad we're not going in September or we'd be saving $10 with how we're now doing our tickets! The one tiny downside is no Magic morning on the 14 day pass but we should get one for the day we're going into DL when we're staying at PP hotel right? Is it true that you show your hotel key at the gate :confused3

Also has anyone done a helicopter or plane tour of the Grand Canyon from Vegas? So many out there and its hard to know what to go off when picking a tour :scared:

76 sleeps :hourglass

Wow your trip looks awesome! :thumbsup2

From the beginning...

I've never been to Texas, sounds like fun!

TBH we weren't thrilled with Vegas, but we're not really big city party type people and it was really a bit overwhelming. We were only there for one night to see The Lion King after our Grand Canyon trip. I would DEFINITELY recommend a day trip to the Grand Canyon - take one that goes down to the bottom if you can. It's one of those things you need to see for yourself to really appreciate it. You should have plenty of time to do one, and also relax by the pool ;)

We had 3 nights in San Fran and really could have done with an extra one. I would recommend doing the evening Alcatraz tour if you can. It really gives it extra atmosphere and the view of the city is very pretty at night. You arrive early enough to see it in daylight as well so you get the best of both worlds! We walked from Fisherman's Wharf to the Golden Gate Bridge - was a LONG walk but nice. The really long part was when we tried to find the Walt Disney Family Museum (which we eventually did find BTW, only to find it was closed on Fridays :sad2:)! I would recommend seeing it on foot or bike though, but maybe take the bus there!

I would definitely get at least 5 day passes for Disneyland, 14 day ones would be awesome! It's nice to not have to rush from attraction to attraction, especially on your first visit, and just be able to take in all the Disney magic. I also tried to make it so that we wouldn't have too much theme park time in a row so DH wouldn't get overwhelmed, but it turned out that he was happy to spend more time at Disneyland than I had expected!

IMHO I wouldn't bother doing 2 days at Universal. We went midweek and it was so quiet we had everything done by lunchtime and struggled to fill in the time until the bus left. Having said that, my SIL went at Christmas time and she said she could have done with an extra day there. So I guess it depends on the crowds.

We didn't bother with Knotts or shopping, so I'm afraid I can't really help you with those. I was going to suggest maybe you could split up for a day if there was another rollercoaster fan in the group, but it sounds like you've come up with a good compromise to go for half a day.

Most of all I would suggest that with such a full itinerary, you will probably need to be flexible and keep an open mind. If you walk past something that looks like fun, investigate! Some of my best holiday memories are of completely unplanned, spontaneous activities. And in the last couple of weeks, if you're all tired and grumpy and completely over it, allow yourself more down time than you've planned. You've done well putting Disney at the end though... it's hard to be tired and grumpy there :goodvibes

Sorry this has turned into a bit of an essay! Whoops!

Hi - thought I would answer a query seeing I've been throwing them up on the board this weekend!

Re shopping in Anaheim and Knotts': I'm not a coaster freak but DH and my 2 DS's are and they loved the Ghost Rider at Knott's - it is a legendary big old wooden coaster - famous among coaster freaks apparently - one of the oldest around I think?

Any hoo - I rode it- once!:scared: - It goes for AGES and is really loud and rattly (too rattly and bumpy for me) but they LOVED it and did it several times.

They also loved the Accelerator and a couple of other coasters at Knott's - we were there last October and it was VERY quiet - walked onto almost all the rides - amazing! You could easily do it in a morning from Hojo's actually, if it is as quiet when you are there.

Now, shopping: as you are already hitting some outlets I would probably skip the Citadel in favour of an upmarket splurge and go down to South Coast Plaza - it is a very upmarket mall - THE place in OC. We spent a day there and had a great time.

Have fun!

Sorry this has turned into a bit of an essay! Whoops!

Thanks for the reply, I'm really happy with how we've done planning this! What started out as a two week LA/Vegas trip turned into this over the course of 21 months ;) I love essays :thumbsup2 every little bit helps!

Yeah I'm not to fussed on Vegas AT ALL but it was a bargaining chip to be able to go to Dallas lol I'm happy to shop, relax and see some of the casinos and thats it lol I think the pool will be a daily occurrence for me :rotfl: I wish the Lion King was still showing, it shopped in Dec :headache: But its coming back to Aus next year!

With the Grand Canyon one of the plane trips does land at the bottom so thats the one I like best so far but then I think well I wouldn't mind standing at the top but none of the plane/helicopter trips land at the top. We're so indecisive! But we don't want to waste a whole day bus tripping it down there when we can do a 4 hour plane trip instead.

Someone did recommend Alcatraz at night but I didn't know you got there in time to see it in daylight, will DEFIANTLY suggest to the others & we can s**t ourselves together  Thanks for the info about the distance to the Disney museum, I was thinking a bus from the Golden Gate bridge after doing the walking tour?

The 14 day pass is defiantly happening for two of us, the two going to NYC will probably only get the 3 day passes. I'd rather annoy my bestie everyday and go hmm we have three hours before dinner Disneyland it is? :rotfl2:

Good to know about Universal Alicia said the same thing and I think we'll do it easily in a day, the main thing I want to do in the backlot style tour :goodvibes

I'm hoping I can be go with the flow, I shouldn't be too bad :rotfl2: I'm such as Type A so I really hope I can! As long as the main things I want to do (at least one shopping centre, Disney & the dance shop) get done I'll be sweet :goodvibes We might show up somewhere and have planned on a five hour stop and find we're done in an hour so fingers crossed for this to happen :thumbsup2

Thanks for the reply, I've only been on one rollercoaster about 11 years ago- Lethal Weapon at Movie World, DID NOT have a good experience as a 12 year old  and I haven't been to a theme park since to give it another go so who knows maybe I'll like it. Pfft who am I kidding, probably not :rotfl2:

Good to know that it is quite at Knotts, helpful when rearranging the schedule for the millionth time because it can be a split day with shopping if we need to :thumbsup2

Thanks for the help about Citadel, didn't think it'd be worth it with the other shopping centres we've penciled in. I mainly just want to hit up certain stores we don't have here like Forever 21 & Victorias Secret to stock up on clothes I actually LIKE and will wear unlike most stores here :upsidedow

Herrroooooo!!!!!!

Just thought I would chime in with my 2 cents worth!!!

Ok, Vegas.....we love it! There is just so much to do and you don't even have to go near the gaming tables. Take a gondola ride inside the Venetian, catch the lift to the top of the Eiffel tower at the Paris, visit the 4 floors of wall to wall chocolate at the M & M's store, marvel at the fountains at the Bellagio.......the list is endless.............ah Vegas!!!:goodvibes

We did a bus trip to the Grand Canyon......................never, ever again:sad2: It took all day to get there and then we only had an hour to view it. I must admit it is absoluetly breathtaking and something you really need to see in person, but do the flights, you'll kick yourself if you don't!!!

As for shopping, I am a Macy's girl! I do love outlets but it absolutely MUST have a Macys! And it must have Hot Topic as it is DD's favourite! I discovered Main Place in Santa Ana last trip, and we have a day planned back there again. You can also catch the ART bus, so getting there is very cheap and easy! And it has a Disney store too!!!

There are a couple of days where we will be in the parks on the same day, so feel free to let me know if you would like to meet up for a snack or maybe catch a ride together. We met up with some fellow Disers for breakfast last trip and we still correspond to this very day!!! And, you will have a personal tour guide as I know the place like it was my own backyard. Yes, that much! With some people it's a holiday, for me it's an addiction! Just let me know!!! 14 day passes are certainly the way to go!

And for Knotts, we also went on the Ghost Rider...............:scared1: Oh my lord, my bones rattled for days!!!!!!!!!! The DD and I are coaster junkies though, so will be doing all the big ones and definitely having fries and a shake at Johnny Rockets which is inside the parkas we want to just have a light lunch as we want to have Mrs Knotts famous fried chicken for dinner! Another place you can use the ART pass to get to!

And like others have said, Universal is really a one day thing. We had 2 day passes last trip but did not need to use them. If you do the backlot tour first thing, you will have plenty of time to do everything else.
The day we went we did the tour first, then we went to the Special Effects Stage ( loved that by the way!!! ).We also got to see the Waterworld show ( amazing! ), Universals Animal Actors, plus did the Mummy ride twice, Jurassic Park twice, the Simpsons ride :-)crazy2: we were green after we got off that one let me tell you !!! ) and we went shopping for over an hour at Citywalk..........make sure you check out the Popcornopolis shop........... yummy yum yum!!!!

Very excited for you:cool1:

:wave2: Minnie Sue chime away :)

Thats the kinda stuff I want to do in Vegas along with outlet shopping, the only reason I want to go to the gaming floor is to get some chips as souvenirs & gifts from the big casions ;) plus some pool side chilling!

Yeah thats exactly why we've only be researching plane trips because I don't wanna waste a whole day compared to 4 hours and actually being able to stand at the bottom of the Grand Canyon!

I do want to get to a Macy's I think theres on at the Beverly centre which we're aiming to get to and I want to go to Hot Topic because they have some great stuff on their website at times! I remember an awesome Cheshire Cat tee a few years ago but the postage wasn't worth it :sad2: I think between all of the shopping centres I've added to our list we're at 5 Disney stores so far? Dallas (Grapevine outlets), both Las Vegas outlets, San Francisco and Main Place. Can't remember if Beverly centre has one :rotfl:

14 passes have become essential in the last week :lmao: seriously cannot believe I didn't think of it earlier! Amazing what my brain can do with only one uni assignment to focus on and no course work left :rotfl2: I'll remember that and if we do happen to be in the park on the same day we should, even just to ride the railway or something to have a bit of a chat & you can fill us in on any insiders secrets :scratchin I totally understand it because if I didn't have such a big family and airfares were cheaper I'd be considering a Disney wedding, too bad I don't even currently have a bf :rolleyes1 lol I'll just find a millionaire to marry so he can fund everyone's tickets :teeth:

Gosh I think I'll be lucky to try California scremin' and only because its Disney! Bec will be in her element though which is the point because she's been so go with the flow during all of this planning and she deserves it, her only request the whole trip is Sea World so she can swin with the dolphins other then that she's let me lead thats a true friend  I'm dying to try Johnny Rockets! I lovvvvvvve cheeseburgers & the whole 50's vibe has me sold on it :thumbsup2 I was surprised that the ART serviced some many places but hey works for us :)

I'm glad to hear all this about Universal because we had a free shuttle included with our hotel so we could go back to our hotel for a break once we've finished and then head back for some shopping and dinner at the Hard Rock. Nice to get some rest with some much walking lol I havent even looked into Universal all that much, it just automatically went on the list :lmao:

Will rememeber about Popcornopolis popcorn:: Do they give samples?? I cannot wait to try out all the awesome ice cream places, I'm such an ice cream junkie lol

Thanks Minnie Sue! Honestly my excitment is getting ridiculous lol I have three countdowns on my iphone (1 for the day we leave, 1 for halloween party & 1 for first day in Disneyland), a rip off countdown on my bedside table, a cross off calander on the inside of my wardrobe, a countdown on the desktop of my laptop (pink post it note lol) and a Disney movie countdown to tick off (two dvds each weekend lol). Plus I have a folder of movie posters ready for a picture a day countdown on fb starting at 31 sleeps :rotfl2: Stole that of my gf's friend :p I should post a pic of the inside of my wardrobe door, its all US trip related :rotfl:

On a side note I had a weird dream on monday night that somehow we left early (8th instead of 18th) and didn't realise till we landed in Dallas and had no where to stay :lmao: apprently no-one did their jobs, checking the dates on our plane tickets lol I reckon it was because another gf and her dbf flew off to London yesterday for a Contiki tour/London trip and I fell asleep knowing they had one sleep till they left

Question: If we get strapped for time in Vegas which outlet centre is the "better" option to go shopping? I was told that apprently one is better then the other but they didn't know if it was South or North lol They both have a Disney store now so I'm not too fussed but would love some opinions on it!

Oops ended up a bit of a novel :lmao:
