TPing house, 911 worthy?

Exactly what Shay said. They do it every year. They don't hit random houses or any houses that don't give permission.

Calling 911 for TPing is over the top.

Calling 911 or the non-emergency number because they were buying so much TP is over the top.

Calling the non-emergency number to report kids TPing is not over the top.

TPing is considered vandalism. If I witnessed it I would most likely call the station to report it and let them decide how important it is to them at the time. It is still an illegal activity. Plus, I might have no idea that they signed permission slips or not. All I am witnessing is the act itself.

So yes, IF I personally witnessed a group of people TPing a home I would call the non-emergency number to report the act. I would most likely also give a plate number if they are in/with a vehicle.

So you would be okay with teens TP your yard? I can send some kids your way if that the case

Sure, TPing doesnt bother me...now if it was soaping or egging I have issue. TP=Harmless

When her kids were little, my neighbor and her kiddos TPed our bushes on mischief night, she asked my permission, I told her have fun. No big deal, she even offers to come by later when the kids are asleep or out to clean it up by I just do it. And "pretended" I had no clue who did it.

Did you read the OP post? They had all signed permission slips. If the parents of the kids are ok with it then what is the big deal? It is not like they headed out to pick random houses. So I do not see this as kids miss behaving.

I agree, the team has permission to do it to another team member's house. I see it as a silly team building excersise. Now if they did it to some stranger then I would not condone it.

The Walmart shopper was over the top...next year they will have to disperse and be more clandestine about their TP purchases...Billy you head to Shop Rite, Johhny to Target, and Susie hit CVS...now break!:cheer2:

Gosh! I can see I'm gonna have to shut off my lights and not answer the door.....I bought a case of TP last night at BJ's :scared1:

Seriously...someone needs to find more chores before calling the police on some boys buying TP at Walmart. Maybe he has a family of 10 and they need to buy TP in bulk, maybe it was a good deal?

I can see if I was driving by someones house and saw a TP'ing in progress I might call the police, but more than likely I'd be chuckling and remembering the good ole days when my friends & I were out having harmless fun.

Yep. The girls basket ball team tp's the boys varsity team the night before the 1st game. The cheerleaders tp the football players houses the night before Homecoming.

Lock 'em up and throw away the key. Today TPing, tomorrow firebombs!!

My neighbors used to get TP'd all the time when their daughter was in high school. The only time the dad had an issue with it was when they caused damage that required clean-up beyond just removing TP. Once they wrote on the front step with shaving cream. It bleached the pavement and they had to use a power washer to remove all of it. Another time, they stuck Oreos on the garage door. The creme left greasy marks that had to be scrubbed off with soap.

I asked the neighbors if they would ever want to be called late at night if we saw their house being TP'd. They said no. They didn't really care about TP or even chalk on the sidewalk. They only wanted to know if they had shaving cream or something else that might cause damage. Otherwise, let them have their fun, and they'd let their daughter clean up in the morning.

One night around 2:00 a.m., I was in my bathroom and heard some weird noises coming from across the street. Sure enough they were being TP'd. I watched for about 10 minutes. They had TP and were writing on the driveway with chalk (a birthday message for the daughter). When I decided they'd done enough, I slammed my sliding bathroom window shut. They all stopped and looked toward my house, so I did it again. Then they grabbed their supplies and scattered, giggling. They didn't do any damage that time. As long as the neighbors were OK with it, it was fine by me.

The woman obviously abused the 911 system by making such a call. Doesn't she know it's for VITAL emergencies, such as:

When Burger King messes up your cheeseburger.

When the snowplow hasn't cleared your street yet and you're in grave danger of missing your tanning salon appointment.

When you can't figure out some of the features of your new iPhone.

When McDonald's runs out of chicken nuggets.

When you need help with your math homework.

These are a few I remember hearing about. You can probably find more by searching Google.

Laugh if ya want, but the buggers won't be messin' up MY drivethru order again. :snooty:

If TP'ing is the major crime wave where you live, count yourself lucky and move on!

WAY over the top.

Well those are all great reasons to call.
I can not miss my tanning appointment. :lmao::lmao:

Jim

Doesn't it take away the fun of TPing if you have permission? :confused3

The reason for the permission slips is so nobody can be charged with vandalism .
It does take the fun out of it but it also keeps the police from having to waste time chasing dumb 911 calls.
I know in my town they pretty much know when it is going to happen so if someone does call they can inform them it is ok.

really wow :scared1::scared1: I would rather have kids behave themselves and not being getting into trouble.

I'm shocked I dunno why after all this is the dis, that so many people are okay with kids being bad and not wanting them to be in trouble for there actions

I don't consider it being "bad." I consider TP'ing to be a fun, harmless prank. Since this is the DIS, I'm trying not to be surprised that it's considered 911 worthy or that TP'ing=getting into trouble.

My sisters and I did our fair share of TP'ing and all the parents knew about it. In my area, once you were able to guess who did it, you called that person and they came to help you clean up. I had a friend who immediately knew I was the culprit because I was the only one that knew his Doberman was named Sissy because she was a scaredy cat. :lmao: She even helped me by fetching the rolls and bringing them back to me. I'm 48 and we're still great friends--his dad even still laughs about it and he's a retired cop. I have not gone on to a life of crime but am a responsible, self-supporting member of society.

Oh, and the mom of a kid who TP"d and was TP'd, as well.

I guess when dd gets her license I won't be sending her to BJ's to stock up on TP for us. "I swear officer, its for my mom" probably won't fly........

How ridiculous!! Tp'ing is a harmless prank. My house got tp'd many years ago, and I was flattered. Then one night in my senior year of HS, I was at a freind's b-day party. There were about 10 of us. A little after midnight, we told my friend's mother we were going out to TP a couple of houses. Her response was "Have fun, just don't get yourselves arrested." :rotfl:

I have twin brothers who are now in their 40s. When they were in high school, Brother B was on the football team, and several guys went out to TP some houses -- brother D went with. They TP'd one girl's house, and she had a very strict (read mean) father. They figured they didn't get the TP high enough in the tree, so they ran home and got a rake, went back to the house, and the dad saw them and called the police, then came running out. All teh boys except my brothers ran. Brother B, thinking quick, said they had the rake because they felt bad and came to clean up the TP :rotfl2:. When the cops got there, they called my parents, who were in the middle of a bridge party, and they had an impossible time not laughing. Brother B's nickname is now "The Rakist." One of our favorite family stories.

I'm not sure what troubles me more, someone calling 9-1-1 for that, or the fact the the dispatch center actually sent an officer out to investigate.

Wow...quick thinking!!!!

I don't see a problem with TPing. Like someone else said...eggs, soaps, spray paint, anything that would actually cause damage would make me speak up. But TP? get over it. Let the kids have fun....especially since it's a tradition.

Buying TP is not against the law, no matter how much you buy.
The police had no probable cause to pull over and detain those kids.
That is wrong.
