Looks like I will ned to fly out of TPA for a decent fare.

How long from WDW to the airport?

Is National Car on site or do I need to shuttle?

Thanks

Tampa is a terrific airport. I love flying in and out of there. It is about a 75 min drive to WDW...pretty easy to do.
As far as National being right there...I can't be sure, but I think I remember Alamo, and National is affiliated with it, was off-site at Tampa. But, they had a shuttle that was very efficient.

I just flew back from TPA on Sunday, love that airport! To get to the National counter, you have to take the shuttle. I rented from Alamo and they are both in the same huge, nice building. It was a quick ride there. I think the building is still on airport property. I came out of baggage claim just as the bus was driving away but the driver saw me and came back to pick me up :)

I do have one word of advice for your return to Tampa, the traffic can be horrendous during the week. The traffic backs up a couple of miles before the I275 interchange at the end of I4. It can add extra time, so plan ahead!

Thanks for all the advise.
It has been 20 years since I have been to TPA. We will be driving to Tampa on a Saturday over the Christmas break so I hope the traffic will not be terrible just slow:rotfl:

Yes, still leave extra time even on Saturday it was bad. Way worth it for a good deal though. National was VERY convienent but there is a shuttle.

We flew in and out of Tampa last October. We had done it several times before (1997, 2001, 2003) with no problems. BUT this year, as we were heading to Disney, we saw the back-up and thought there must be something going on at the Stadium - and how lucky we were going the opposite way of that mess. :rolleyes1

Well, same thing when we returned that Friday. I got so nervous because traffic just wasn't moving. This back-up occurred for miles and miles and miles (we came in from a different highway coming from Hilton Head). I told my DH never again . . . and I think I mean it. ;) Also, for me and when I seem to travel the rental car rates are quite a bit higher than Orlando negating my savings.

What's going on now that causes all this back-up. :confused3 Has Tampa just increased in size that much lately?
