I was at Toys R Us last night and they have notices all over the place about their new return policy....they are not taking back ANYTHING anymore unless you have the receipt or gift receipt. That is going to make it tough with birthday and christmas where people are always giving gifts with no gift receipts that my daughter already has, or if they give Bratz dolls those always go right back to the store but now I will be stuck regifting things like bratz dolls to kids that are allowed to play with them. The rest of the stuff will just end up being donated to a toy drive now. My daughter picks 3-5 things anyway to donate out of her gifts but now she may have to give more LOL.

I ws there yesterday and didn't notice any signs. With Target's return policy so restrictive, I'm sure they had to follow suit.

What was funny yesterday though was the cashier. I was buying some of the games on sale for 4.99 and I had a coupon for $1.00 off. She said "They're only 4.99." and questioned why I'd use a coupon. I just smiled and said, "yes, I know. That's why I'm buying them. Why wouldn't I use my coupon and spend as little money as possible? :rotfl2:

I think each TRU can customize their own return policy...what may be the return policy at one store may not be at another. Or perhaps it goes by district. :confused3

I've noticed many stores tightening up their return policies lately (Target for example) and with TRU under some financial contraints, it doesn't surprise me that they are starting now too.

I work at the customer service desk at BRU and sometimes I wish we would tighten up the return policy....one of our managers takes back almost anything if pushed and the others will refuse. Makes it hard for us to know what the "real" return policy is :sad2:

Legally stores don't have to take returns on anything except defective products so if a store is cracking down on returns, my guess is they have had enough people abusing the system.

Toys r us is just plain bogus...
They are not taking some things back even with receipts..
Bought an mp3 player for my Feb trip whic broke in the first hour I used it..
brought it back with receipt and they still would not take it back or give me a store credit.. they said things need to be in original packaging... kind of hard to do when it was wrapped in hard plastic case you had to cut to get the dang thing out! I will never shop at another toys r us again neither will my friends or family!

Yep, as more and more stores are continuously getting taken advantage of and the shoptheft rings get bigger and bigger, you are going to see liberal return policies going the way of the dinosaur. :(

There are getting to be too many people out there that consider stores as "rental" companies now. We've had people bring back wedding items like cake knives and servers and lie and say they received 2 as a gift and they want to return one. However when you open them up you can see the stuck on icing and cake crumbs in the nooks and crannies. Yep, they used them at their wedding and now they want their $19.99 back. Like we are a rental place. :rolleyes2 Same with candles. They will burn half of a jar of Yankee and THEN bring it back and say they didn't like the fragrance. Sure, half a jar of Yankee is like 50 hours burn time.. took you that long to figure it out? :rolleyes2

Its a shame that a few with little morals are ruining it for the rest of us.

no big deal. people will get in the habit of asking for a gift receipt and it will be business as usual for everybody that wasnt abusing the system in the first place.

Ours has been that was for quite awhile. The only store around here that doesn't require a receipt anymore is Walmart.

I don't think that gift receipts will stop the abuse. If they know that they are going to use the product as if it were a rental (like the wedding stuff above or when people buy bigscreen tvs for big sporting events and then return them) they will get the gift receipt and still return the item and the store will be stuck with something they either can't sell or can't sell at full price.

We are not in the Toys R Us mode anymore/yet, but I do know we do frequent stores that have easy/pleasant return policies, like a Home Depot, and shy away from those who make you jump through hoops. I do think it good business sense to provide a pleasant atmosphere for the hugely more honest population than impose tight restrictions due to the small percentage of dishonest people, JMO. I do know we are attracted to a pleasant 'overall' shopping experience, and that includes potential returns.

I see a couple people mentioning Target's new return policy...what is it? I shop there all the time and rarely return, but I do happen to have a pair of sandels for DD that are too big that need to go back. If I bought them 3 weeks ago and have a receipt, will I have a problem?
