Toys available in room?

We leave in 2 weeks and I am trying to figure out how to keep DS (2 1/2) occupied when we are in our room, aside from the small things we'll be bringing for the plane ride. We are staying at SSR. Does anyone know if toys are available for use in rooms?

Honestly, ds 23mo was pretty occupied in the room. We took his 'guys' which are his small disney stuffed animals, in one of the suitcases. He can play with them for hours. Between them, baths, snacks, and naps, his time in the room was pretty much taken up! He loved to see what the mousekeepers would do with his stuffed animals each day. Often they were displayed in the window when we would come back at night. We did have some books with us for reading, as well as some little matchbox cars that he loved (we bought them for the plane so they were new).

we ordered a couple of playsets (princess and heros) from disney direct. paid 9.99 and saw the same ones for 19.99 at wdw. we just packet them in the suitcases and pulled them out when we arrived.

ours also enjoy a new box of crayons and a new color book. there are also 99 cent magna-doodle (travel size) at walmart that are great for scribbleing on and playing tic tac toe.

we brought along our portable dvd player and i picked up some 99 cent dvds at walmart (old cartoons and the like)-they enjoyed watching these during the flight and at the hotel (and i think ssr has free dvd rentals).

Please don't waste money by renting or buying any new toys. Your son will be just fine discovering the newness of the room.

I don't know how your son is with toys, but I do know that my children won't play with them long enough to justify me buying or renting more.

I've never heard of any resort at WDW having toys available to use in the rooms. I'd be concerned about the cleanliness of them. (I work in a school system, and see how gross the toys in the pre-school area can get, even though they are washed periodically!)

My bet is that after a long day at the parks, he's not going to need to play in the room...

When DS was little i would make room for some type of open ended toys that I knew he would play with a lot with out getting board. A tub of legos is great for that. i also woud bring a small sheet with me to put on the floor for him to play with. A new toy or two from the parks is also good but safe toddler toys might be a little harder to find inside the parks. DD has a wonderful toy store and then you could ship them home. I think it really depends on how much time you will be in the room. We do build down time into our WDW trips and having something to do in the room would allow you to get a little rest too if indeed you also plan down time.

Im afraid if toys were available to guests, not only might they be germ magnets , but also, I think some less-than-honest people would keep them

You guys bring up valid points. I don't know what I was thinking. Thanks for bringing me back to reality. I mean...it is Disney - I'm pretty sure the only time we'll be in our room is for nap time and bedtime.

Why not bring a small carryon suitcase filled with his own toys? That is what we always did for our little ones. DD is now 6 y/o but still brings that roll on filled with dolls and anything else she can squeeze in there.

This is what we've always done, as well. My 8yo still uses hers to bring her favorite pillow, books and small toys when we go somewhere. Our 2yo doesn't have her own yet, but big sis has plenty of room to carry some of hers as well.

To the OP, I wouldn't worry about toys, either. We don't spend much time in the room, and the time we spend there is supposed to be rest time anyway. My kids are usually so tired out from the parks and the pool that they have hardly even touched the toys we do bring. They're either sleeping, or watching a little TV. They loved the "bedtime stories" played on the on-site TV's in the evenings.

A couple more ideas, though, for things to bring from home... Magnetic play boards, (like this) fold up flat to be easily carried in a suitcase, and can keep my kids entertained for a while, although they contain small parts, so you'd have to find one suitable for a 2yo. A pad of Post-it Notes is great, too. It takes up hardly any room, and the notes can be used to "write" on, or to take off one by one and stick all over the room. My 2yo can keep herself occupied with those things for a good 20 minutes or so!

We have traveled a decent amount with our kids at all ages(well age 6 down to brand new) everywhere from As far North as Boston, South as Florida and West as Hawaii. You don't really need to worry about toys except for travel time. At most a couple of books, or a magna doodle. Sometimes bubbles and a blow up beach ball are a nice extra. Also, I hate for my kids to play with the toys at the peditricians office for fear of what they will catch...I can't imagine how many germs at WDW! Have a magical trip!

We always have colouring stuff and stickers with us because we take them for the loooong plane journey from England.

We usually go to Walmart or somewhere to get groceries on our first day.
Here we usually buy DD a new book and a couple of small, cheap toys. We also pick up small things like wind up characters in the parks.

DD likes to play while we get ready in the mornings or she watches Playhouse Disney on TV.

Hope you like SSR. We stayed there in Sept 04 and had a great time. Going back next month!

I do actually have one of these, w/ an airport theme. I'm going to go put it with his Florida stuff right now.

He will also have his own backpack to bring on the plane, which in and of itself I think will be a treat for him.

We have a 2 year old DD (also a 14 year old DD and a 16 year old developmentally disabled DS). We spend quite a bit of time in the room so DS can have some down time. We did rent toys from A Babys Best Friend along with a crib etc. My DD loved them!!! They were Disney Themed and they were very, very clean!! I am so glad we did rent as we spent at least 1/2 the day in the room. DD loved them. If you have doubts , rent them . They are age appropriate and my DD loved playing with them. We did bring soem from home but after a few days it was nice to pull out something new for her to use. I highly recommend A Baby's Best Friend!!!

I always pack an assortment of toys for my kids (youngest just turned 3), but they never even get them out while we're at WDW!! I wouldn't worry about this. If you need some entertainmnt, what a great excuse to visit DTD.

I have 3 yr old twins. I always pack a small assortment of toys. For the plane they each get a med sized pencil case with a few crayons and a pad, match box cars, mini magna doodles, and a new spin pop. They suck on the pop for take off and landing, and then the spin pop holder becomes another toy! We stay offsite so space isn't an issue. I bring a pop up hamper to use as a toybox. I bring inflatable balls, coloring books, mini bubbles, books, etc. They seem to find time to play with everything. One year I did rent toys from ABBF, and they were great, too.

I have to add...

My kids always seem to find two new trampolines in every hotel room we stay in.

Somehow those hotel beds scream "jump on me!" to the kids, and mom and dad aren't as diligent about stopping their jumping as we are at home.
