Okay- may sound silly but after all this planning.... I started thinking about what do you do in the hotel room with a 3 year old? Do i pack some of his toys and some kind of mat to play on (i don't think i could handle him playing on the hotel floor). As you can guess this is my first family trip. Any help would be great or just calling me crazy is fine too. Some days after all this planning i think we should just stay home. Thanks!

I always take a few things for my boys (but never favorites - in case they get left) when we go on trips. Just a few small cars, books, etc. It seems to help them unwind after a long day of activity. :goodvibes

When DS was small, I tried to never bring toys from home (maybe just one or two) because we always ended up buying so many new toys while in WDW.

We don't bring toys for the hotel - we bring stuff to occupy them for the 17+ hour trip down so there are things in the car if we needed them (we haven't). By the time we hit the room in the evening, it's time for bed and when we get up in the am, it's time to head out the door. For the few minutes they are in the room they either 1) watch tv or 2) play with whatever they have accumulated during the trip.

We always bring toys & books for our sons - although they enjoy watching TV, they need to have playtime to really feel at home.

We never take toys from home. By the end of your stay, that hotel room is going to feel pretty crowded without additional toys. We always have a few things in a backpack that occupied my kids on plane ride, but they rarely get used in the hotel. The once exception are their Nintendo DS hand held systems.

we usually bring a potato head then buy parts to play with. we are pretty park happy when we are there so nobody really had time to play on the floor when they were small enough they had a blanket for the stroller to keep the sun away if you are taking one you could always lay that down to play on. not sure they will stay on it but you can try

DS takes his army of Cars. He can race Lightning and "Dinoco," tip the "tractor moos" and line up and organize the rest of them for hours!! We also have his DVD player from the airplane and a few favorite DVDs.

You probably won't have a lot of down time in the room but we always let our kids bring a small backpack with toys and books. Mostly this is for the car ride or airplane ride but then they have something to do if we end up resting in the room or heading back early one night. We always bring the Nintendo ds's. But I see you have a young child so perhaps just some favorite small toys and a book or two should do it.

My dd 3 takes some things in her own backpack to keep occupied on the plane but not many things as you just don't need them at the hotel. She gets to bring 1 soft toy to sleep with and then I pick 4 - 5 small books, small writing pad and pencils, and maybe a sticker book.
Your 3 yeard old will not suffer from playing on the hotel floor (not sure how you would get a 3 year old to stay on a play mat anyway??).

my ds4 takes cars with him , he loves to run them in the grass and up and down the sidewalk in the mornings as we Waite for mom and sis and at night he would rather play cars then watch TV and if by chance you get a rain day he will have something to do

When we go in October, we are going to rent toys from abbf.com. I've heard it's great and it's pretty cheap too. They deliver 8-10 age appropriate toys to your hotel and they are there for you upon check-in.

I think it will be worth it for down time in the room and to not have to pack toys.

LOL! This sounds just like us. Maddox loves CARS so we'll bringing those as well, along with the DVD player for the plane trip. Thanks! April

I pack a tiny backpack for my son with toys, cars, books & crayons. As I pack, I literally make a list of what toys we're taking. If we buy any toys during the visit, I add them to the list. Then, when we're packing to leave the hotel, I run through the list and make sure everything is accounted for and not left under a bed or nightstand. Or in my son's case, left in one of the drawers under the tv. He loved hiding his toys there! :lmao: I have done this with trips to visit family and WDW & has worked very well.

As I typed this, I realized that this made me seem like a real organized & in control person (at least to myself). SOOO not the case!
:confused3:rotfl2:

we always bring a few comforts of home.we also find bringing a few small new toys that we can surprise them with.sometimes when you need to get some things done a new toy can totally ingulf dd5 and dd3's attention, and give me a little break.
