Toys/Activities to entertain 2 1/2 year old on plane?

We are traveling with our 2 1/2 year daughter this summer and this will be the first time we have had connecting flights and I am trying to gather some items to keep her entertained on the flights, any suggestions? I am thinking about buying a Leap Frog scribble and write and/or doodler toy as well as having crayons and small notebook to color as well as books.

Probably the best investment would be ... if you could... a portable DVD player and favorite videos. We have one and my kids are 13 and 14 and they watch when we fly.

When they were little we did coloring books/books/ etch-a-sketch type things, etc.

The Crayola Color Wonder Markers and books were a life saver for us! We took blank pages and one coloring book - kept him busy and quiet!

A small travel sized magnadoodle. They are wonderful and can be used over and over again and not chance of colouring anything around you

Those small hard cover books are good too.

I have entertained a 2-3 yr old several times on very long flights (9 hours, 24 hours) and to pull new things out often was really handy.

Those are good be sure to bring plenty of snacks like pretzels and juice crunchy things to make her ears pop so they dont hurt!

Be sure to play with her and ask her questions about what she's doing the standard what color is that? what shape is that? kind of thing. Also if they have 'lovey' like a favorite stuffed animal or blanket BRING IT! It's really comforting if they get scared.

OH YES! and if you have a laptop BRING IT! Charge it for the plane even if you dont plan to use it on vacation and play them movies on it my aunt on long car rides usually goes to the library and rents something 'new' for my younger cousin to watch and be entertained with that way you arent spending lots of money on new dvds ;]

One year my son occupied himself by popping bubble wrap! We have 2 ipod touches that are so GREAT for the kids. Music, movies, games, pictures.
