Anyone have one? Do you like it? My husband is buying a 1996 one tomorrow. (if our mechanic says it's in good condition). It's his dream car....but I'm nervous. We have never bought a car that old before. Thanks!!

can't help you specifically with the Land Rover, but, we're a Toyota family. I have a 10 year old Rav4 with 138k on it, runs just as great as it did when we bought it, we only had to replace the timing belt at about 100k. My mom has a 10 year old Corolla, 140k on it, she's had no probs. Dh has a Toyota Tacoma that had 125k on it when some dingbat crashed into him and totalled it. He walked away from a complete side impact crash at full speed with no injuries. Before my Rav I owned a Corolla, bought it w/28k on it, drove it til it had 150k on it, sold it, and it's still going strong at almost 200k. I love my Rav, and hope to upgrade to a FourRunner in a year or two.

Isn't the Land Cruser a Toyota? :confused3

DH has a 1995 Land Cruiser he bought new. He loves it, but hates the gas mileage now. We had a farm and he drove it all over that place. There hasn't been anything major go wrong with it yet, but the check engine light is on now. I think it's just a matter of time before he trades it in. We don't have the farm anymore and it would be nice to get something more fuel efficient.

I think tinkandarial was giving her support of Toyota's in general, but she had never owned a LR specifically. :teeth:

yes, the Land Rover is a Toyota. I did mean that none of us has owned a Land Rover.
If the check engine light is on, it could mean that the timing belt is about to go, that's what happened in the Rav. Or, it could just be a wiring glitch, that's what happened in the Tacoma, that darned light never went out til about 10 minutes before the truck was totalled. Weird.

I guess what confused me is that the Land Rover is a British made auto, and the Toyota is a Japanese made auto. I don't think anyone ask about the Land Rover. Maybe I missed something. The Toyota has a much better service record and should get better gas milage. :moped:

I think TinkandAriel just "misspoke" when writing Land Rover. Land Rovers don't have anything to do with Toyota's and I don't think their reliability is anywhere near as good as a Toyota's. Land Rovers are British and Land Cruisers are Toyotas.

My dh had a Land Cruiser for a few years. I loved it, but he didn't like it so much. Plus, it was just him in that big thing most of the time. When gas prices shot up, he traded it in for a smaller car before everyone else jumped on the trade in your big SUV bandwagon, so he got a great deal on his trade in. His was like a 2003 or so and it is a gas hog. I loved it though! :teeth:

oop, my bad. I did mean Land Cruiser. I don't pay much attention to gas mileage...when it takes $250 to fill up dh's log truck, $20 or $30 for my vehicle doesn't phase me much...

We have a Land Cruiser and a Lexus SUV (the middle size one). I love them both. The Land Cruiser is a bit bigger, but they both ride nicely and are very reliable. The gas mileage is not great, but what can you do-SUV's don't get great mileage. (FYI I drove the Rover once and I did not like it-very boxy and did not feel as safe.....)
