Toy Story Land Summer 2018

Am I the only one who thinks that the Slinky Coaster (in the concept art) looks waaaay too crazy and intense-looking to be considered a family coaster?

Just looked at the aerials and was thinking the same. Definitely not similar to Barnstormer.

It looks more like 7DMT to me. My 4-year-old found 7DMT okay so Slinky looks like a 4+ year ride (maybe taller 3) which is still pretty young but a lot of kids love Toy Story by age 2.

I wish DHS was getting quality "kiddie rides" like the Magic Kingdom.

I hear what you are saying. I feel like, if not done REALLY well, this will come off like Dinoland's C/Hester area which is carny and cheap for Disney. I get it, its a cheaper easy build. Hopefully it will be well landscaped with minimal concrete.

I kind of think of it as a counterpart to A Bug's Land... the rides aren't that spectacular there (they'll be much better at Toy Story Land, I would think) but the theme is wonderful and immersive. I personally love A Bug's Land, even if I never ride anything there.

Will there only be two rides in Toy Storyland? Slinky Dog Coaster and Aliens? Even Bugs Land has more and that's another small space.

Yep just those two.
Only two new rides? Crazy.
But I feel it will be more themed and immersive than "DinoLand USA" at least (ugh, I still don't "get" that area .. I mean I know the story, but it just doesn't fit in a Disney park no matter what the back story is). There is so much more they COULD (and CAN) do with a Dino-themed land besides two kiddie carnival rides I can find at my local county fair.

Will there at least be a playground area there to replace the old Honey I Shrunk the Playground? Two "rides" are fine as long as there is other stuff to do in the land to help disperse crowds .. I mean Pandora only has two attractions.

I just feel the park will always be hurting for attractions for a while if they start attacking the old attractions before or AFTER these new lands are done (Star Tours, Indiana Jones, Disney Junior, Little Mermaid, etc.).

I mean they already killed Great Movie Ride. A giant attraction in the center of the park leaving the park with 4 RIDES (as in attractions that have queues) in an already small park. Yipes.

What IS the story behind Dinoland? I may be the only person who doesn't know it.

I'm excited for this area but it should have been built ages ago. Ages and ages ago. Toy Story has been iconic for a long time now and it's just ridiculous that it's taken this long.

Reading some of these replies is depressing. Everyone wants HS to have more, but what they plan to open soon isn't good enough?

I digress.

I think it's great and I am glad we have a plan for a trip in September next year. We are big Toy Story fans.

Will there be a new restaurant in TSL? I don't get why there already isn't a Toy Story character dining option at Disney World. This would be an amazing addition to the land.

Well technically 3 rides as Pixar place will go and Midway Mania will become party of Toy Story land. I think 3 very different rides is fine. Plus I'm sure a Meet and Greet will stay

2 rides only for Star Wars Galaxies End? They'll certainly need a phase 2 for that land.

No, it's not. Not sure if you realize it, but there's not a net gain in attractions with the addition of TSL compared to what was closed down to make way for it. On top of that, the price for admission has been going up for what has been less stuff to do in the park and I'm sure will go up even further over the next 3 years when we'll experience what I believe is a net gain of 1 attraction in said park.

Look, I'm excited for TSL but I'm also realistic in that I as a consumer should want MORE MORE MORE for my dollar(s) and Disney hasn't always provided that. People should be pushing for more more more.

As the construction of Animal Kingdom progressed they ran into some major buget problems and they had the choice of either Dinoland and beastly Kingdom. They chose Dinoland and replaced the area set aside for beastly Kingdom with camp Minnie Mickey and then ran into more budget problems with Dinoland. They sank most of that money into the development of Dinosaur that they just created the carnival like atmosphere with the remaining funds just to have something there. That is probably the worst themed area in all of Disney parks other than probably Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris. I see no comparison between this and Toy Story Land as it is going to be immersive with an IP tie in and not have a carnival like atmosphere. They already have Toy Story Mania arguably the most popular ride in the park, a tame spinner Alien ride that will be popular among kids in the park and something Studios with a lot of rides with big height restrictions needs, and a roller coaster that will be fairly tame but from the looks of it being open air will give kids more of a thrill than 7DMT. I'm excited that yes it is geared more toward kids but it will be a popular well themed area that is much needed as they look to turn around Hollywood Studios (need that new name soon)

Not exactly. When it opened, Dinoland had reptile habitats and a paleontology museum. The carnival stuff was put in a few years later so they could claim they had something new without spending much money.

This looks so chintzy.

It does still have TSMM as the headliner, so in total it will be fun for little kids. But not much new to look forward to here IMO

I personally am more excited today about TSL than I was when they announced it. I love "family" rides - rides that the whole family would enjoy, not just tiny tots, or teens alone. I didn't realize that the Alien Saucers was going to be like Mater's Junkyard Jamboree and now that I do, I think that's fantastic. It's a fun ride that we (my family) all enjoy in California. For us, I ride ToT alone and DS/DH ride Star Tours. With the removal of GRM, all that was left for us to "ride" together was TSM. (yes, we break up into two cars b/c we are a family of 3). But we have also always seen the "shows" as fun attractions too, and don't only count "rides" when planning park time.... I have a hard time with all of the motion simulators that Universal uses, and our trip there made me really appreciate how Disney had many rides that weren't over the top thrills.

When friends asked me if they should take their kids to Hollywood studios, I would tell them that Playhouse Disney/ Disney Junior (whatever it's called) show & character meal, plus the Toy Story meet and greets, TSM, Beauty and the Beast and Little Mermaid were all favorites of ours when DS was very young. They use to have Lightning McQueen and Mike/Sully meet and greets and the Animation studio movie and meet and greets. DHS is (was?) a great place for little ones to meet some characters, while Mom and Dad enjoyed a coffee and croissant from starring rolls! (in our experience, anyway). We even used to meet Stitch there regularly. I would get a fast pass for tower of terror and DH would grab one for RnR, and we would take a little time out for that. When DS grew out of playhouse Disney, we replaced it and the Little mermaid with LMA stunt show and Indy stunt show and Sci Fi for meals. For us we've always enjoyed DHS no matter what our ages.

(However, I'm NOT going to get myself started on my feelings about the "original" attractions they removed (Backlot tour, Animation, GMR, etc), as they were my childhood favorites and I am feeling positive today towards DHS and don't want to change that....)

WWoHP which has two lands in two different parks added a grand total of 2 new rides. (The HE was never intended to be a ride.) I agree that SW will eventually expand, but 2 rides is par for the course with Disney. Avatar, Toy Story, NFL all added only 2 rides.

I guess "Toy Story Land" is the final name? Kind of disappointed in that. And not something like "Toy Story: Andy's Backyard" , which kind of seemed to be the trend with (Pandora: World of Avatar, Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge).

The toy story areas in Paris and Hong Kong are both Toy Story Land or Toy Story Playland.
