I'm just now working on my touring plans for our upcoming trip (May 4-9), and so of course I can't get FastPasses for TSMM or 7 Dwarfs. What's the best way to ride these? I figured make it the first thing we do, but when I plug it into Touring Plans, it doesn't put it first. Should I follow what TP suggests or go with my gut and make a beeline to these attractions?

Without a FP+ you definitely want to go to each of these immediately at RD or you will have long waits.

As above, get there for rope drop and head right to whatever you want to ride.
We did that in February, in all 4 parks, and were able to ride anything we wanted, with little to no wait, for the first hour.

Keep checking for a FP+. Just this morning I found a 7DMT fast pass for May 6th, 9:25-10:35am. I didn't take it though since I was unsure if I could get my family to the park that early:rolleyes: I do have another one later in the week for an evening time slot though. So it pays to keep checking, they do pop up occasionally.

I'm going the same time as you and just booked my fast passes this week (last minute trip). I was only able to get Toy Story late in the day I wanted and mine train wasn't available. For sure rope drop both of those if you can't get FPs.

Yes, you're right, I did check and I can get one for TSMM, but not till after 5:00 p.m. I thought I had read it's best to get all FP for earlier in the day, so you can possibly get more later. Plus, we're planning on going Tuesday 5/5 and then spending the evening at MK for the nighttime entertainment. We're staying at the Boardwalk, so figure we can spend another evening there for Fantasmic. Is this a dumb idea? Should we just focus on DHS this day? We're doing MK on Wednesday, but we have a group of 7 and I know they won't want to be at MK on Wed from rope drop all the way till evening fireworks, so Wed. I was planning on MK and then Epcot in the evening.

We've done 2 fp+ trips. Both times I set our FP+ at DHS back to back starting at park opening in hopes to pick up a 4th (was hoping for RNRC). Both times, I tried to pick up a 4th immediately after using the 3rd, and both times there was nothing available. By nothing, I do not mean nothing good, I mean zero FP+ in the park at all. The CMs at the kiosks were checking and advising zero availability for any attraction. We do not go at peak times either. I would take it whenever you can get it at DHS and not worry about a 4th.

Even tho we had FP for 7DMT, my boys wanted to ride it an extra time. We did rope drop one day just after New Years. We took the 1 o'clock path to the right of the castle. Our group did get there first, tho many others took the ~3 or other routes. It was worth it - our wait was 10 minutes, but it was a bit of madness and wouldn't recommend it with small kids. Mine were 6 and 8 and did fine, tho we were moving quick. CMs do act as barriers throughout the whole trip, but they're moving pretty quick themselves.

So, if you can't get FP, I would ride very early and plan for the rush.

We did 7am rope drop at MK last week during spring break. We were towards the front of the pack when they opened MK. We stopped for a castle pic, but other than that walked straight to 7DMT at a normal pace. When we arrived, the wait was already 45 min!

No, any avail FP later in the day are less desirable rides or rides that simply dont require a FP. Plus, kiosk lines can be long and are a waste, better to spend that time in a ride line and not that line for a useless FP IMO. Better take that TSMM one or be prepared for a wait of 1 to 3 hours.

If you want an alternate strategy, the lines for both of these rides can get really short later in the evening.

For example, we rode Toy Story 4 times in an hour at about 9 pm one evening early last summer. The posted wait was 75 minutes, but the actual wait was 15 or less each time. The key was riding during the early presentation of Fantasmic when most guests were at the show.

The next night, we rode 7 Dwarfs twice in a half hour at 11:30 pm. The posted wait was 80 minutes, but the actual wait was 20 then 10.

Just keep in mind that those posted wait times are often greatly exaggerated.

This is depressing to hear, we arrive at AK on 5/14/15 for a much anticipated trip that has been rescheduled at least 4 times in the last 3 years for various reasons. My granddaughters are so excited. I don't know what to think. I have read that fast passes 30 days out are still available. We opted to stay off site due to cost it was either that or not go. I am hoping for the best. I am planning on rope drop and making Toy Story my first stop at HS. We will be going on Monday 5/18 so I hope it not being a weekend helps. It is also Star Wars weekends so I don't know what to expect.

It won't be as bad as the weekends at DHS. Most SW fans will go F-Sun. I have always been able to get on TSM first thing by walking right over there, no stopping. The wait was never more than 20 minutes.

Good to know, I have also done this in the past. I have knee issues now so I can't walk as fast. I hope we are to ride without much of a wait.

So I grabbed an evening FP for TSMM for 5/8. We're going there in the evening and watching Fantasmic. For Tuesday, we'll just make it our first stop. My kids are older, so hopefully that helps, and since we're staying at the BW, we should be there early.

@LeslieLou what is the 1 o'clock path? My kids are older, so that sounds like it can work for us. No pictures first ;)

@Babe the Blue Ox , thank you for that strategy! Will definitely try that for our evenings in those parks!!

@MOM POPPINS, thank you for the link to that site!! I haven't planned a Disney trip in over 5 years, so there's so many new things to learn!!!

If the castle is at noon, take the first path to the right of the castle when looking at the map. Skirt to the left of the teacups and stay to the right of the group the entire walk so you the enter the 7DMT queue on your right.

We also were at MK about 30 minutes before opening so we could be very close to the entry gate. We went in the right hand side, but stayed to the left so we walked in Main Street but close to the sidewalk away from picture takers. I don't know if that made any difference.

Sorry for the slow response - have been traveling and my Dis ap isn't working anymore.
