Toy Story 3

I was disapointed that there was no music to speak of. A few dribs of old songs from the first two, but no song that I can say "Oh that is from TS3." That was a disapointment becase I love "Youv'e got a Friend in Me."from TS and really loved "when she Loved Me" from TS2. There were a few places that needed a song, especially at the end.
I did like the end, and did shed a tear or two, but I would have liked to see those toys go into the attic and be brought out for Andy's kids. Wehn I read about the ending on these boards I really thought that was was happened, it was not what I expected. So I was sad to see Andy drive away with nothing.

I liked "We Belong Together" in the end credits. It was a nice way to recover from the ending.

I think Andy keeping the toys in the attic would have been a terrible ending. The toys were already miserable stuck in a toy box at the beginning of the movie, (Woody holding his ear to the phone just to hear Andy's voice was heartbreaking) and they were resigned to moving to the attic. They just wanted to be played with, they would never get Andy back even if he did keep them, and it would be years before he had kids of his own.

When Andy handed over each toy and told Bonnie who they were, it was a reminder to them that he remembered and loved each one of them, even though he was going away. It was like after all they gave to him, he was giving them what they wanted most - someone who would love them and play with them too.

I also liked how the last shot was of the real clouds in the sky when Andy drove away...the first shot of the first movie was the pretend clouds on the wallpaper of his bedroom. He was leaving his room for the real world now, and he did right by his old toys.

And I don't understand the How to Train Your Dragon comparisons. HTTYD was a great film, but it cannot approach the level of TS3. And this is coming from somebody who used to work at Dreamworks Animation.

We're all entiteled to our oppinions. We liked HTTYD better - the 3D animation, the story, and especially the interactions between Hiccup and Toothless. They are completely different films in content and dramatic intent. Apples and oranges. We like the apple better for this one. That doesn't take anything away from TS3. I just think a lot of people are getting overly worked up about the last ten minutes of TS3 and applying that emotion to the rest of the film.

Toy Story 3 will absolutely be nominated for Best Picture. That's why the Academy returned to ten nominees. Will it win? No (although, based on all the movies so far released this year, I think it should). A nomination is an absolute given.

I've been reading that it's the year's first Best Picture frontrunner. I'd love to see it win, Pixar has so earned it by now.

I loved HTTYD, I went back and saw it again the night after I saw it the first time. The story's been done a million times (it's very ET-like), but it was exceptionally well-told and the battle sequences at the end were better than most live-action films. It's one of my favorite movies of the year so far.

That being said, TS3 was better. I don't agree with the idea that people are just getting worked up over the last half-hour and the rest of the movie was nothing new. All of the TS movies have been about what will happen once they've been outgrown or replaced, but in this film that's actually happened, so it's new territory, even though we already know the characters. Pixar took a familiar story and took it to a whole unexpected level for a movie that was simply about a room full of toys.

DH & I went to see Toy Story 3 yesterday at the behest of DD17. She said the movie made her cry--that almost NEVER happens. She is the most pragmatic person I know. She was really touched by the boy growing up. She remembered when the first Toy STory came out--she was the same age as Andy. And now she and Andy are growing up. He's leaving for college and she will be going to college in another year. It really made her sad to think of leaving all her bears behind.

I loved the movie, really loved it. Especially when Buzz Lightyear goes into Spanish mode. OMG I was somewhat disturbed by the garbage part. When they were tumbling around in all that stuff I started having flashbacks to our recent rollover wreck, so I had to get up and walk around a minute.

I hope that Bonnie takes good care of Andy's toys. And I'm glad he left Woody with her, too.

DW and I are supposed to take DD(almost 4) to see TS3 this weekend. I've read a lot about it, and I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to get through it. I had a very vivid imagination as a child and my toys were, to me, as valued as they were to Andy. The themes of the first 2 movies really got to me as I remember how much everyone else loved growing up and I seemed to hate it because of all the things I was leaving behind. (Don't even get me started about the breakdown I had at 18 when my parents sold my childhood home).

DD definitely wants to see it, so I'm sure we're still going to go, but, phew, I have a feeling it's going to be a rough one for me. Yeah, and DW definitely thinks I'm some sort of sap.

We finally went to see this today and it was GREAT!!! My eyes welled up at the beginning and it was all downhill from there. LOL I loved how they tied up the entire series of movies. The first one is still my favorite, but this one just hit me right "THERE."

How many people believe that this movie should win some kind of award? I haven't seen a great movie like this in a long time.

Agree. The character/story development was outstanding.

DH & I finally saw Toy Story 1 & 2 last night. We were so surprised that we hadn't seen either of them! So we saw #3 tonight and loved it! I was sniffing at the end. I guess it's 'cause I have grown sons, but it really touched me.

I rarely go to animated movies, but I thought this one was exceptional.
