How many people believe that this movie should win some kind of award? I haven't seen a great movie like this in a long time.

im sure it will win best animated movie. But I really dont think it should. It was a good movie but not GREAT like everyone is making you believe. In fact the first 75% of the movie was just a replay if the first 2, nothing new, earth shattering etc... I think people are letting the last 10 - 20 minutes cloud the first 100 minutes.

I liked it, but I loved Toy Story 2 and it's still my favorite of the 3. As far as best animated so far this year, I'd give it to How to Train Your Dragon.

I'm biased b/c I really only watch Disney/Pixar movies lol, I loved it and would give it an award, but like i said, I'm biased so I am not of much help lol.

I found the movie fantastic mostly because of the nuances in the movie. Besides the story and moral, just the details. The way these writers captured the essence of these toys, the way you just forget they are toys and see them as "real", The way the writers can evoke emotion. I found it fabulous.

right but they did that with ts1 & 2 as well. like i said nothing earth shattering or new. Not worth an award, when others are more original, as mentioned how to train your dragon

Lesser movies have won Academy awards for moments of brilliance shorter than 20 minutes.

I am hoping for a "Best Animated Picture" nomination at the very least. Maybe even "Best Picture", too. Beauty and the Beast did it- so did UP.

UP was/is on a whole different level then TS3 though thats what I am saying.

I didnt even care for the movie but Wall-e was on a different level then TS3

How to train your dragon is on another level then TS3. We have watched ts3 2 previous times, nothing was new about it.

TS3 will have to be astounding to beat out How To Train Your Dragon, which was fantastic on tons of levels. We're seeing TS3 tomorrow so I'll be able to make a comparison, but from what I've heard of TS3 it is no better than either of the first two, except for perhaps the final half hour, in which case I doubt it could be better than HTTYD, which was great pretty much the entire movie.

Disclaimer: I have not seen "How to Train Your Dragon".

But I did see Toy Story 3 - and I think it is one of the best Pixar movies ever.

I disagree with you, foolishmortal. The "new" themes here are obviously growing up and leaving behind the things of our childhood and youth. And how conflicted and bittersweet that can be. We've done it ourselves, and for those of us with children, we see it in our kids as well.

And the final scenes, Andy knowing that he is saying "goodbye" for the last time, and actually PLAYING with those toys one last time, and giving them to someone else to love and cherish, is absolutely brilliant.

Not only that, but we see ourselves in the toys as well. Toys live to be played with and enjoyed by children. In that sense, they are a lot like us, in our universal need for love and friendship.

For me, I loved the way many things from the previous movies came up again. The puppy that Andy got at the end of Toy Story 1 is now the old, fat "Buster" that rolls over on Woody. Jessie is reminded of being abandoned by Emily. Evil Emperor Zurg makes a cameo at the daycare. A few are lost along the way to various garage sales - Bo Peep, Etch, and Wheezy. Even the "yo" truck from Pizza Planet and "The Claw" come back for brief appearances.

I strongly believe that Toy Story 3 will win since: it has deep ties to a groundbreaking movie (Toy Story) and the nostalgia factor runs deep and HTTYK was loosely based on a book whereas TS was an original concept.

Am I the only one that didnt see the greatness of How To Train your dragon?

It wasnt bad or anything, but after we left I just couldnt see what all the fuss was about.

ICF - I have to agree with you - my DDs begged me to take them to see it and when we came out of the theater they even said it wasn't as good as they expected,

now with TS3....it was great from the get go....yes, it slowed down for a little bit and then the wonderful last 20 minutes in which you cried, laughed and then cried some more. I hope that it gets nominated!

I thought How to Train Your Dragon was amazing.

However, Toy Story 3 blew it away. It's no contest.

TS3 made me cry harder than Up. LOL!

We still liked HTTYD better. TS3 was very good, sure. Better than TS2, maybe better than TS1. Not as good as UP or Wall-E and only caused some slight tearing, unlike Up which made us cry like babies. TS has never been our favorite Pixar movie(s), however.

I just saw TS3 today and I thought it was good but not exceptional like some have said.
After I saw it I did feel nostalgia for some of my old toys that got tossed over the years. I did see a stuffed animal on the street and have to say I felt a little sad. I know, strange, even I said that to myself, but I felt something for a dumb inanimate object because of a movie...
I was disapointed that there was no music to speak of. A few dribs of old songs from the first two, but no song that I can say "Oh that is from TS3." That was a disapointment becase I love "Youv'e got a Friend in Me."from TS and really loved "when she Loved Me" from TS2. There were a few places that needed a song, especially at the end.
I did like the end, and did shed a tear or two, but I would have liked to see those toys go into the attic and be brought out for Andy's kids. Wehn I read about the ending on these boards I really thought that was was happened, it was not what I expected. So I was sad to see Andy drive away with nothing.
I didn't see HTTYD but people who did said it was so much better than TS3

Toy Story 3 will absolutely be nominated for Best Picture. That's why the Academy returned to ten nominees. Will it win? No (although, based on all the movies so far released this year, I think it should). A nomination is an absolute given.

And I don't understand the How to Train Your Dragon comparisons. HTTYD was a great film, but it cannot approach the level of TS3. And this is coming from somebody who used to work at Dreamworks Animation.
