Disney Toy Gun Sale Stirs Controversy
Some of the guests to Walt Disney World are upset that the parks sell toy guns. Recent events, such as the serial sniper attacks, and the stepped up security, which includes the searching of guests' bags, have prompted some visitors to call selling toy guns hypocritical. Disney officials say the criticism is not justified, because the park's guns are obviously props for fantasy, and most guests agree. Disneyland in California obeys a state law that bans the sale of realistic looking toy guns. Florida has no such law.

 this one is already up on the debate board. The political correctness in this country is just becoming frightening. I hope by the time I have kids they still make toy guns. :sigh::(

In my case, this first was a problem back in '93, when DS was (& still is) a BIG INDY fan!! We/he bought the hat, t-shirt, holster and GUN after the WDW/MGM show. It was NOT to be carried on the plane though even back then! Current situations do not surprise me at all but, NOT selling the toy guns?, that seems kinda silly, imo.

AND, I KNOW personally of some RL family members that totally disagree with me about 'toy guns' but, you'd have to know my DS to feel like I do. ;)

Kyle, if not available for your kids, let me know. ;) And, there's always water guns! (I think those can be worse, quite honestly, with those darn Super soakers!)  :(

;)

Don't worry Kyle-if you can't buy them-the kids just make 'em
with their hands/stickes/eat sandwiches to look like them.
:D

Shortbun - I had too laugh at that one - My parents are both very anti-gun. So when I was a kid, we weren't allowed to have toy guns - There are a whole bunch of pix of my brother & I, dressed up as cowboys & stuff, pointing crayons at the camera! I know we used sticks too - but crayons seemed to be the weapon of choice for some reason....

As to the banning of toy guns at WDW - Give me a break...

My DW doesn't approve of toy gun sales there, but I have no problem with them :D :D . I grew up with a cap pistol but somehow have evaded the FBI's 10 Most Wanted List:jester: :jester: :jester: ........

The only ones I can think of that come to mind are those wooden guns from Pirates. There's no way so much contraversy could be stired up over THAT is there??? Its kinda reminds me of something. Every time we ride Pirates DH and I are reminded of the story about how the pirates use to chase the ladies around and someone tried to sue disney or something along those lines because it was offensive to her because she had been attacked by a group of men so Disney had to change the ride so it didn't offend anyone. Something like. It could've just been an Urband Legend. Anyway, whenever we ride it we always say, "Hey, that offends me because (insert crazy reason here)"

Anyway, the point being, if the guns offend you DON'T BUY THEM. I don't see why people have to make such a big deal about them. It's not like the realistic looking toy guns which could cause confusion if a child were to ever see a real gun. These guns are toys and that's what they look like...toys.

The guns aren't as dangerous as those light sabres and swords I see kids banging each other and everyone around them with! I wonder about the mentality of a parent who hands a toddler a swashbucking weapon in a crowded place...
