Towncar or rental car?

I have never rented a car in WDW before I usually just use the WDW transportation system. My dd and I will be staying at the WL in August and I was wondering if I should rent a car or just use the transportation system. Also if I decide to rent a car when/how to I go about getting the best rates? Thanks for the info.

We do not rent a car when we stay at WDW. We stayed at WL in 2001 and did not have an issue with transpotation. I think we waited for a bus to one of the parks for about 30 minute. We had a 8 month old baby with us and had no problems. We have a towncar come and pick us up at the airport and return us to the airport. We even have a grocery stop when we need one.

We prefer not to drive while on vacation and WDW transportation is great! If you're travelling between some resorts, you may want to take a cab ... the buses don't travel from resort to resort like they do the parks.

I'll toss in another vote for towncars! When staying onsite at WDW, we use Happy Limo for our airport to WDW transportation and then rely on the Disney buses, boats, monorail, etc. I love not having to be bothered to drive. When we come down for the weekend and spend time in Kissimmee, we have to get a car and I hate it! I just saw on t.v. the other night that FL is the second worst state in the nation for driving, and I see why everytime I get behind the wheel there. It's so much nicer to have a towncar pick me up and then use Disney's system. The only hotel I've ever had bad service at is Caribbean. The others I've stayed at (Contemp, Wilderness Lodge, Animal Kingdom Lodge, Coronado, Port Orleans, and Fort Wilderness) have been great.

We rented a car for years and never used it except to get to the airport and back. I've loved having using a towncar service for my last two trips, and have reserved one for our trip starting in two days. I drive enough, I don't want to drive on vacation! For us, the transportation system of Disney's is part of our vacation!

My towncar reservation is cheaper than a rental, and cheaper than using Mears.

Happy planning!

We are planning a trip this fall and are trying to decide on car rental, shuttle service or towncar/limo to get us from point A to Port Canaveral. Any information would be great. I think so far we have narrowed out the car rental but still have it as an option. To make matters more complex we will be arriving on a Saturday at the Orlando International getting a rental car for our one week trip in the WDW area, then leaving 7 days later for a cruise. So we will need transportation from where ever we drop our rental car off to the port and back to Orlando int. airport after a week.

That shouldn't complicate things too much. We have done trips where we had a rental car for part and then had Happy Limo pick us up to take us to Port Canaveral. We have done this when dropping off a rental car onsite at MCO and also offsite (it was either Hertz or Thrifty, I can't remember which).
