 We are going to Disney next week for the second time. Last year I was too scared to go on TOT. It just looked too scary. I really want to do it this year, but I am having second thoughts. What is it really like? I know my kids or husband won't go on w/me, so I'm alone in this. How about Alien Encounter? I want to do this also. Thanks.

Hi Karen, welcome to the DIS, we're glad you've found us!!

Tower of Terror is a lot of fun (if you can handle the drops, that is!). The ride starts out in an elevator and first you see some special effects like the ghosts of the people who supposedly died in the original elevator accident. The room goes dark and you see lots of stars. You then go further up and see some twilight zone paraphernelia. The elevator moves forward, the doors open and then you drop over and over. Sometimes the drops are short and sometimes they are nice and long. You go up and down quite a few times and before you know it, it's over. It's absolutely one of my favorite rides!!

I haven't been on Alien Encounter in awhile so maybe someone else can describe it better for me. I do remember it being much scarier, although you don't move - you just sit in your seat the whole time. There is a show about how they captured the alien, I think, and you can see it in the tube in front of you (the seating is a great big circle with the action taking place in the middle). All of a sudden the lights go out and the alien escapes. You can hear the glass break and hear him running around. People are screaming and then you feel his hot breath on your neck. That's about all I can remember, I'm afraid it's not one of my favorites.

Have fun!

ToT is the BEST! I know how you feel though. I was a little iffy about it when my husband took me there for the first time. But then I saw this little girl who couldn't have been more than five dragging her mom and dad to get back on the ride! So I'm thinking, "If she can do it, I can do it too." I rode it and it became my most favorite ride ever! A couple of years latter I convinced my mom to ride it. You can trust me on this, if my mom survived it, so can you :) My mom was so proud of herself too. She bought a t-shirt that said "I survived" with a picture of ToT on the back. When we got back she made a point of telling everyone she rode it.

We also got her on Alien Encounters, but we didn't tell her what it was before we got on. We told her it was just a 3D show like Honey I Shrunk the Audience (I know, I'm a sneaky little devil :) ) Since that's more of a show than a ride there's nothing to it. All you have to do is remember that nothing there can hurt you, it's all pretend. I've been on it quite a few times and the experience is different each time. I still love it though. It's the first thing I do when I get to Magic Kindom :)

I love ToT !!! Im a little chicken about some things, I dont see myself jumping on any big roller coasters, but on our last trip I decided that I hadnt been in so long that I was going to really experience as much as I possibly could. I had a blast, I never screamed and laughed so hard. I do have an 11 DS who really enjoyed having someone to brave these things with him so that helped. Go For IT!!! Its also a very quick ride.

I did not get on Alien Encounter but DH did and I think he may not go on again. SHHHHH hes a little chicken ;)

The thrill ride part of ToT is a long drop - if you like the sensation of your stomach dropping, that's what you get. It is over quickly, and you don't see the drop as much as anticipate during the long ride to the top.

Alien Encounter is a sensory show. Kind of like a horror movie where you feel the breath of the monster on the back of your neck. You are restrained in your seat. If you find that kind of suspense overwhelming, you won't be comfortable.

I'm fond of neither heights nor suspense and made it through both rides (and would do so again - although I wouldn't stand in a long line to do it).

ToT is awesome! i've been on it 17 times! i know everything on that ride by heart! ok first u enter through this garden and u hear spooky music, and u can @ one point see the 13 story drop. then u enter the hotel loby and they either separate u on the right or left. Then depending on which side, u walk into this library, and u watch a quick twigh light zone episode, they explain the elevator and the " lost souls". But as u watch this, u are slowly decending into the boiler room. From there u are separted either into the right or left elevator, depending on the size of your party. ( one word of advice, do not under any circumstances take the " suicide seat.) the suicide seat is on the highest of the tree or four levals in which u seat. the suicide seat is in the dead center, and u do not have a bar infront u u only get a thin stap, thyat u hook on to. Trust me i hold onto that bar for dear life. then once you are seated, u go up about 5 stories. And they show the little girl , and she's playing jump rope and she's singing it's rainoing it's poring. And this really wierd green rain comes down. Then u gfo up more. it starts to get very dark, and then in a far distance it likes like your in space u see all of these white stars, then they show a window and it breaks and the noise scares some people half to death. then the gate in front of u opens and you go on this track that guides u some where and it's pich black. U can't see a thing. Then a GREEN LIGHT SEEMS LIKE IT'S OPENING SOMETHINFG SIDE WORDS. Then the voice from the show that u have seen earlier says, " u are about to witness the twighlight zone tower of terror, and then u fall, then u go up higher, and u fall, then u have two small drops, and another big one . Be sure on the first big drop tio smile they take your picture. The itself isn't bad @ all. my grandparents and my aunt were able to handle it. It's just the anticipation that gets u nervous. Oh and if u play the hidden mickey game, the little grl who sings it's raining it's poring is holding a mickey . :D :( :o ;) :) :p      :Pinkbounc :smooth: :jester: :p :earsboy: :earsgirl:  :sunny: :earseek:  :teeth:

I'm not sure how I did ToT the second time we went on. Same trip, different days. My 5 yr. old went on it twice too. The second time she said she wasn't sure. But it is over quickly.

I'm not sure I will be able to go on again next year. I went on the frog hopper (sick, no?) this summer and didn't like that - so I don't know how I'll do on ToT.

As to Alien. It's so fake, it's funny. I wasn't scared at all. It does help to know what actual happens.

Enjoy,

Anna

yes alien encouter is so stupid. I think a 4 year old could handle it. In the intro it's kind of likethe movie," the fly". They say how they are trying to transport people ffrom one place to another by using a tube the teleports u in seconds. then u get seated and they say how they r going to chose one lucky member from the audience to be teleported to a different galaxie. But in stea the head comander and chief decides to come to us. And he changes into a man eating flying thing. then it escapes and gets really dark. It looks like a burt to a crisp dragon. it's so stupid because u have to think to yourself how can this thing be breathing on everyone in the audience, and lifting up everybodys bar, and spitting on everyone.

I went for the first time last week and enjoyed it a lot. The Monsters (ages 4 and 8) were begging for this ride from the time the plane touched down! I'd planned to take them in a few years, but changed my mind after we spoke to a man and his 3 y/o grandson who'd been and had a great time. I'm glad I gave in - they went 5 times during the course of the week.

The drops were fun, especially if I relaxed my arms and just let them float :) . I wish the sound effects were a little less earsplitting, though. The window crashing puts my teeth on edge. I'll gladly go again, anytime.
