Hey, just a quick question:

For those who have been on it, how are you held in?

Irrational fears of not being held in properly as the only "drop" ride I've seen is Detonator in Thorpe Park and they have the full shoulder restraints.

Only really asking as I reallllly want to go on this ride, but from what I've seen you aren't held in by much. I mean, I went on Rush at Thorpe Park and felt completely unsafe and scared, is it going to be as bad as that?

TIA

You are held to your seat by a seat belt and it all feels very controlled and secure :)

Claire ;)

You are not held in by a lot but you don't need to be. It wouldn't be fair to compare it to rides that need shoulder restraints. I didn't feel particularly secure on it but I am terrified of heights

there are small handles at the side of the seats too which are nice to hold onto:) get to them quick though as you have to share this with the person next to you.

If you sit in the front row and you are not next to the wall, you won't have a handle to hold on to. But you are held in by a very secure lap belt, which is really more than you need. It is a very controlled fall, you can feel the hydraulics working to control your falling speed. I like to lift my feet off the floor, it gives you much more of a "free-fall" feeling and is a lot of fun!

If I remember correctly, they used to not even have the lap belt. Maybe they just had a lap bar? I'm not sure, but I think the seatbelt was a later addition to the ride during one of the rehabs when they changed how many times you fall.

This ride is really nothing like any of the other free-fall rides at amusement parks that require shoulder restraints, I wouldn't even compare it to those types of rides. It's a lot of fun... just don't worry about it and have FUN!

Yes you have lap belts on the Tower of Terror now - I really miss the bar that used to be there as you used to get a little 'air' time as you slightly left your seat

Mandy :)

Yes but we went on with our dd 7 and there was a rather large man who sat next to her and the lap bar went nowhere near her, dh had to hold onto her and she came off a jibbering wreck. She refuses to go on now.

Just discreetly leave some slackness in the seat belt when you do it up ;)

Likewise. DD and I were a little disappointed last year to find we were strapped in. I loved the "0" G.

I still miss the lap bar though, something to grab hold of!

The seatbelt is secure...and there are the side bars to hold on to, but it is more fun to put your hands up :)

Also, before you go on, there is nothing to hold whatever bag you have like other rides. So I did find myself trying to keep my bag from going up in the air with the drop.

Tower of terror is more about the story and effects than the ride. The lapbelt is really only there to make the less courageous feel better. The drop is not in the same league and nowhere near as severe as The Detonator at Thorpe Park or Dr Dooms Freefall at Universal which I wouldn't go near without full restraints.
The darkness and build up makes you feel like you are plummetting several stories but in reality it's more like a tame fairground ride.

I asked a CM where was best to sit to get the best ride, but he refused to break character and replied, 'I don't know what you mean sir...It's only a lift'

Me and DW LOVE the tower of terror not for the actual drop ( which is not terryifying) but for the whole atmosphere and build up.

The second time we rode it, it had nowhere near the same effect as we knew what to expect , but then the same could be said for any thrill ride, but tower of terror seemed to be the one that was most affected.

It wont stop us riding it again when we go in 3 weeks :cheer2: time!!!!!!

That reminds me...my mom and I went on the ride when it first opened, and it did just have the lap bar. Except for the middle seat in the back row. It never had a bar, only a belt. So we get on, and we are in the back row. I pull the bar down, and my mom reaches for hers...no bar. The CM comes and tells her to just fasten the seatbelt. The look of terror that crossed my mother's face was absolutely priceless:rotfl2:

It is nothing like Dr Dooms Freefall

I have to admit I wasn't keen on TOT when it only had the bar :scared1: but now I love it

My DDs are aiming to beat their previous record of number of consecutive rides - I'm hoping I'm gonna be brave enough to join them :rotfl2:

yes, the CMs in ToT stay in character better than any other CMs in any of the parks....
and some of them get really really creative - we've ridden ToT well over 100 times and some of the times the CMs have done something so wacko they had us laughing through half of the ride...

Thanks for this guys, it's quite reasuring:thumbsup2

I think I will have to get my sister to force me on it when we get there so I don't chicken out, but that's just my backup plan in case I chicken out.

Can't wait now.....Only 9 days til I take my first trip to orlando!!!! :wizard:
