How do seat belts feel verus the lap bar? I'm on the short side (5' 1"), so I always had a lot of room between myself and the bar, so I felt that I always floated up for a bit before the bar hit me. With seat belts, I'm thinking that i'll be strapped in tighter and won't feel the "floating sensation" as much...but maybe that's a good thing because it sounds safer?
I was just there on the weekend. I put the seatbelt on with a normal tightness, at least for me, and I still "floated" out of my seat every time. It was just as cool as the lap bar. We had a total of 6 drops. Have fun.

The seatbelts are a nice size and suit everyone - they'd have to wouldn't they? The seats are likewise designed and when the belts are compared to the bars I'd say that they suit this ride a lot more - they conform to your shape and basically ensure that yo don't get hurt - the ride is, as a result, amazing fun! Very good special effects, although no-one ever seems to remember that bit...
When we went in May, they hadn't switched all the cars, so we got to compare lap bars vs. belts each time we rode.
I think the ride experience is just as fun with both, but seat belts are better for one reason: you don't have to rely on other people for the 'snugness' of your restraint. I'm not tiny, so I've never experienced having the bar too loose. We did have it too tight when a very skinny teenager CLUTCHED the bar so tight on herself that my DBF was gasping. I managed to catch it before it got all the way down, and spent the ride in a tug of war, trying to help Eric be able to breath!
Another time, we entered the car, and there was no room left for me in the row! The other couple were sitting spread out, and only moved over when the CM asked (even then, I was only given a tiny bit of room). This is our favorite ride, and these were the only two times we ever had uncomfrtoable ride, but both were due to lap bars.
Sorry that was long! Seat belts give personal space= better!
I very much prefer the lap bar. I like the "floating" sensation and was nice to have the bar to hold. I think that all the riders in my extended family mentioned missing the lap bar after we rode on our May trip.
Same here FredS--I really miss the lap bars. I got more airtime with the bar than the seatbelt. Some others have said to elave it loose but you cant it conforms to fit you
Just back from 1 week at WDW 11/1 - 11/9. We rode TOT numerous times.
DH and I are both "pooh sized" and when I saw the seatbelts as the elevator doors opened I initially pannicked thinking that it wouldn't fit around either of us. But we were both fine and the width of the seats were fine as well.
I think with the seatbelt I got even more airtime than before and DH thought the same thing. The newest drop sequences and added other effects are awesome!
Remember when the TOT just took you up once and dropped you straight down and that was it? I still thought it was great then, and the 2nd and 3rd versions were fun too, but TOT 4 is by far the best!
Oh wow, you mean they've added new effects as well??? that will definitely be cool. I was always clutching the lap bar because we always seemed to be sitting with leggy people (not just tall, but LEGGY). There were a couple of times when i thought I should raise my hand to switch seats because it just looked too risky. It was scary, but it was a thrill. I hope the seatbelts will be just as fun!
