Tower Of Terror - Is It Really A Terror?

To warm up for ToT (which is my favorite ride of any ride in the World) I agree that the TTA would be a good intro to the dark of Space Mountain, and things like Space Mountain and Haunted Mansion (both for the dark/spooky kind of atmosphere - if those are too scary, ToT will probably be). Really though, I can't think of a ride that is close enough to ToT to compare with due to the fall (well, Splash Mountain has a "fall" - maybe you should see how he does with that fall first?).

I agree with all these recommendations. If he's never done thrill rides before, I would take him on the 3 "mountains" in MK before trying the more intense rides in MGM (ToT and RnRC).

When I first visited WDW as a kid, I had never been on a roller coaster or any other thrill ride, and I was a bit intimidated by the idea of Space Mountain. I decided to try Big Thunder Mountain first. It's a lot less intimidating because it's outside in the sunlight and you can see what's coming. I was still nervous getting on, but once I rode it, I loved it! That gave me the courage to try Space Mountain. I don't think I rode Splash Mountain until another trip.

I think Big Thunder Mountain is a great way to gauge how he'll do on thrill rides in general, then let him decide for himself whether he's ready to try one in the dark (Space Mountain) and one with a big drop (Splash Mountain). If at any point he doesn't want to go, don't force him; you'll both have a much better time that way!

But if he handles all those well, and isn't scared by the theming of a ride like the Haunted Mansion, I think he'd do fine on ToT. Just let him know in advance that it's a "fun" scary ride like Haunted Mansion, where you drop like Splash Mountain, only it's over and over again. It will help if he knows what to expect.

If you like the sensation of "falling", you'll love ToT. If you don't like that feeling, I would suggest RnR instead.
