Being highly claustrophobic I have to be so careful about going on any rides that are enclosed or possibly being strapped down. I have never gone on the TOT. Can anyone enlighten me who is claustrophobic and went on it? Are you enclosed? Is it overly hot? Is this ride most likely not for me?

Well, you are closed in by four walls once the door closes, so I think you would find it to be claustrophobic. You are going to get people telling you, "oh it's not that bad" and such, but my uncle was claustrophobic, and elevators, even the larger freight types where impossible for him. And then you have to keep in mind that if you will be skitish to begin with, you have to remember about the drops that would add to the shock value or, as others would tell you, "fun" value. I don't know if the operators would reopen the doors once the ride started unless you absoulutley had a screaming fit. Why take the chance? there is plenty of other exciting stuff to do at WDW. Don't get your blood pressure up!

I can't tell you about the elevator itself but I walked all the way
up to the chicken exit without any trouble and I skip lots of
things because of claustrophobia. My guess is the elevator itself would pose a problem. You aren't in it long but it's definitely
closed and a large elevator. I skip it because dropping doesn't
sound like fun to me at all but I'd have to consider the elevator
itself if I changed my mind. How do you do on the wait line in
Splash Mountain? I hate it!

I am a bit claustrophobic(when they close the door to the airplane I freak out a little bit). TOT doesn't bother me because it is a large elevator, not like one in an office building. I have never noticed it being warm in there. You do wear a seatbelt which might add to the feeling of confinement. I think the ride is just too fun to miss.:earsboy:

Other problems that might be a concern to you.

You are in pitch dark for a moment or two while seated in the elevator.

You are herded into the library with many other people to watch the Twilight Zone on the TV. It is wall to wall people and difficult to move. This is before you get in line for the elevator. At one point it is also very dark here as well.

My husband is claustrophobic and didn't like it he first time, but he can get past it.

i consider myself to be pretty highly claustrophobic, and I don't think TOT is at all. The elevator is large and 99% of the time, it is only enclosed on 3 sides. Mission space however.....I thought I was going to flip out. Longest 5 mins of my life.
BTW....I get claustrophobic if I am in the window seat of a full airplane...I feel trapped!!

I also consider myself to be claustrophobic and ive had no problems with this on the tower of terror. I certainly didnt get hot and I really enjoyed the ride. In fact TOT is one of my favourite rides and im looking forward to riding again when I visit later on this month.
I hope you get to ride and that you enjoy TOT every bit as I do

My fiance often panics in enclosed spaces. Tower of Terror has never been a problem for him. I would suggest going through the line, and if you don't feel too upset by the room that you watch the video in, you would probably be okay. I think that room comes across as more claustrophobic. You have a decent amount of space around you when you are on the actual ride, and I have never noticed it being hot on the ride itself, not even in July.

I agree with the previous poster about Mission Space...that is a very small space that they put you into...*shudder*

I just wonder if everyone knows what true claustrophobia really is. It can be frightening.

I am claustrophobic and have more trouble on airplanes rather than TOT! I do know how bad it can be! I had to be heavily sedated for an MRI! Like the others have said, the rooms(library in TOT and Haunted Mansion) seem tighter than the elevator!

I want to thank everyone for their quick responses. It sures helps. I believe I will try the ride and if I feel to closed in I believe I can bail out-correct?

Once you are on the elevator, you are on the elevator for the ride. You can chicken out before you get on the elevator.
