How scary are these two rides? I am not normally a roller coaster sort of person, but I can handle Big Thunder Mountain and Space Mountain with no problems at all. I particularly want to go on ToT and the Rocking Roller Coaster--am a big fan of both Aerosmith and "The Twilight Zone". Just very intimidated and want to get a feel for them so I don't chicken out.

Re RRC--have never been on a coaster that goes upside down before, either! Trying to be prepared as DH does not do these kinds of rides at all and DS is more than likely too short for RRC--I've got to do these on my own.

If you can handle Space Mountain, then you'll probably find RnR to be similar. It's another dark ride, but the movement is similar too. Now the ToT is a completely different feeling. But it's not a roller coaster. Imagine being in an elevator that moves down pretty fast (does your stomach lurch?). Now multiply that by about 50. How does that make you feel? I LOVE it (the feeling of weightlessness), but it scared the beejeezus out of my 24-year-old baby brother.
Good luck!

If you can handle Space Mountain, then you'll probably find RnR to be similar.

Be advised that RnR travels faster (but smoother) than SM, and that RnR has 3 inversions (two rollover loops and one corkscrew). With its' high-speed launch, I'd compare RnR more to California Screamin at DLR.

RnRC - request to wait for the front. I find the back to be particularly jerky (and painful.. once my hip popped mid-ride, and because I was held in by the restraint, I couldn't right it until I had managed to climb out of the ride vehicle).

Honestly, the idea of going 0-60mph in 2.8 seconds with three inversions scares the crap out of me. But it's such a -fun- ride... Aerosmith blaring in your ears.. It's awesome. And truly, you don't even feel the first two inversions, you're going so fast. And the last one just give you that stomach-dropping feeling like any other normal roller coaster.

ToT - Speaking of that stomach-dropping feeling... I agree with a PP who said it's like the feeling you get on a real elevator, multiplied by 50. I think this ride is definitely more intense than RnRC. But you know what? I'd say ride it. It's only a couple minutes, and if you hate it, you never have to do it again. Every time I get off ToT, I'm totally shaking, but it's always worth it :]

I haven't done and won't do ToT so I'm no help with that. I FINALLY did RnRC a couple weeks ago...first time I hadn't chickened out. I will say I HATE the launch. 0-60 in just under 3 seconds was not my idea of fun. But the ride itself was awesome. Very smooth, and though I knew there were inversions, I didn't even feel them. I'm leaving for Disney again in a couple of hours and I'd love to do the ride again. The only thing making me debate is that dumb launch. lol

RnRC is a faster version of SM. It does go upside down but it is so fast you really don't reliaze it until it is over. It is a fun ride, not too be missed. IMHO

ToT is nothing like a roller coaster. It is simply a drop. Actually a couple of drops. It pulls you down faster than gravity. It too is a fun ride, not to be missed. IMHO

Both are very different. RNR isn't really scary and it's over quickly. If you handle Space Mountain you should be fine. ToT is not super frightening, but "scaresome" (scary + awesome) as my sons describe it. The fact that the # and distance of drops varies keeps makes it pretty edgy. We did it during the day & night and found the fact that you can see more makes daytime scarier.

I think RnR is worse then the other coasters in Disney. I always feel more jerked around on that, though on other coasters I can put my head back, RnR not so much because it's so loud and I always want to pull my head forward to get away from the speakers, so it's my own fault that I don't enjoy it as much. I usually skip it for this reason.

ToT on the other hand, I love. It's very well themed, (well, so is RnR, but I'm able to enjoy ToT more,) and I don't think the drop is too bad.

I actually would not compare Space Mountain with Rock N Roller Coaster at all. Yes, they're both in the dark. That's really all they have in common.

Space goes 28mph. RnRC goes 60.

Space has no inversions. RnRC has 3.

Space has a chain lift. RnRC has a launch.

RnRC is definitely more intense than Space. It's super fun, but more intense.

I resisted going on RnRC the last few trips, finally convincing myself to do it when we were there a few weeks ago. I loved it! I have only gone on one or two other upside-down roller coasters, and wasn't sure what to expect. I way over-hyped it - it was not bad at all, IN MY OPINION. I think Everest is a lot more intense than RnRC. I agree with everyone who says it goes so fast you basically don't feel like you're going upside down. My only "complaint" with the ride is that it goes so fast, the wind brings tears to my eyes.

Tower of Terror - it's my favorite ride at HS. But if you can't deal with that dropping feeling in your stomach, this ride is NOT for you. But the theming is fantastic, and truly one of Disney's coolest rides.

these are our 2 favs @ HS!! our dd rode TOT when she was 5 and has loved it ever since. RNRC is very smooth and the upside loops are not a big deal and you're in the dark. i absolutely LOVE take off! my only complaint, it doesn't last long enough. be prepared to buy the ride photo of yourself. TOT is really my favorite! i love the whole experience. we all ride with our hands up but my dh! so much fun and really fun to ride at night too!!!
have fun!

These are DD11 most favorite rides
She 1st rode them when she was 7 and we try to ride them as many times as we can when we are there

I'll tell you what I oldl her that 1st year
Try them bid you hate them you never have to ride them again
Of course she loved them!
You just might too!

Not a fan of huge, scary rollercoasters. Did R&R for the first time recently--LOVED IT!!!
New favorite Disney attraction!!! Even my friend's 9 year old granddaughter loved it.

We rode ToT today twice, walk on. DD9 and I were expecting a lot worse. The pre-show was scarier. Both of the sequences were very different. We didn't try RnRC.

I love Rock-n-Rollercoaster. The launch is intense and the ride is over before you even have time to process what happened. Make sure you have your head pressed against the seat back so it doesn't get whipped back at take off.

I am not crazy about Tower of Terror but go on it when my daughter wants someone to go with her (she's 10 and it is her favorite ride). In contrast, she hated RnR and has vowed never to go on again.

The theming for both rides is great!

Took me 3 vacations to ride both of these rides and finally did two trips ago and LOVE them both. I was terrified to get on and now regret missing out all that time. Last trip me and a friend actually literally rode ToT 20 times in one day so we are pretty well immune now lol. I found the first time the most intense because I was scared but now they are nothing. RnR is just plain fun I would go on it the ride only likes like a minute so if you don't like it then it's over quickly and at least you know and you aren't missing out.

I love ToT, I have never been on RnRC but hopefully I will try it next year. Unfortunately, DH dislikes ToT but loves RnRC. :upsidedow

Rock N Roller coaster is a huge step up from Space Mountain and Big Thunder. It has a high speed, high G launch, a Sea Serpent Rollover, (Two inversions) and a corkscrew (1 inversion) It is smoother than Space Mountain. But it is far more intense.

The TOT is an elevator on Steroids. It too is well above the intensity of Space Mountain and Big thunder.

Note there is a chicken exit for both. So you can go through and look at things, but skip the ride if you wish.

RNRC is my second favorite ride in all of Disney! By the time you realize you're sort of upside down, it'll be over. The take off is simply exhilarating! It is a "dark" ride, but there are bright neon signs everywhere.
I know ToT has a huge fan club. My 8 yr old won't even go near the building (but she loves RnRC). I personally love the whole thing...right up until my lunch gets displaced...I can live without that!
