Tower of Terror 10 Miler 2014

Are the tickets you order online through the discount ticket portal( the one where you have to type in the special password) the ones that you had mailed to you? are those the ones that get mailed? I also had similar concerns about FP+

I wonder if this changes if you buy a package over the phone, or if you book a room via phone and then buy your tickets online through the portal? I could see them holding package tickets at the hotel for check-in, just like they did with regular packages.

I was wondering this too.........

All of these are good points, but I just want to mention my own experience at the PHM this past weekend. I carried a camera, but through poor planning, found my memory card full less than half way through the race (dumb, I know...) so thankfully I had my iphone and used that for the rest. I had it open to the camera app in every line and didn't have a single problem with the cast member taking the photos....in fact I was really pleased, because unlike with the camera, they took 2 or 3 at every stop (I'm assuming it was easier to just tap the screen 3 times than hit a camera button and wait) so I could pick the best one each time!

:thumbsup2 I had the same experience at all of the PHM races last week! Many of the folks taking pics with my camera asked if it was okay to take multiples so I could pick the best. Frankly, my iPhone 4S pics are WAY better than anything Marathonfoto took. And they're FREE! :cheer2:

Hi! I just registered for the TOT 10 miler race which will be my first runDisney race! So excited! :yay:

I am kinda nervous as I only just started running but figured this would be great motivation for me to stay on target. As of right now, it'll just be me running.

Quick question - I was already planning a trip to WDW and then decided to sign up for this race. My hotel reservation is for the Grand Floridian which is not a host resort. Would I be able to drive myself to DHS as there won't be transportation at my resort?

Thanks,

meg

Of course you'll be able to drive over, the race isn't just for people staying inside Disney. If it's like last year you won't be parking at DHS,you'll park at ESPN Wide World of Sports and take a shuttle over to DHS.The shuttles will then take you back to WWoS.

Question, to submit time to place in an earlier corral, does the 10k need to be on a certified course? When reading the site, I did not see this as stated for the PHM, so I wasn't sure. I have a 10k in June but don't believe the course is certified. Thank you.

At this point I'm just hoping by some miracle they announce free dining (we're heading down quite a few days before the race) and I'm going to scrap the run disney package and take free dining because it works out cheaper for myself and my travel companions if I did the disney math correctly. Then I'll just be booking the regular package and my tickets would be available right away.

I think it does because those are verifiable. But I could be wrong. Wouldn't be the first time (or the hundredth). Ha!!!

Hopefully someone will correct me quickly if I am wrong . The one I submitted for W&D I had to print out the results that were posted and show them to it & he did look at the course 'description' before moving me up (this was when you could still change corrals AT the event).

I'm hoping for free dining as well. I think odds are in our favor.

I purchased tickets online through the portal using the special password. I received the tickets in the mail and was able to enter them into MDE. Now I brought them with me too just in case and would recommend the same!
With all of the changes to the FP+ and MB, I'd definitely be asking lots of questions to any CM you talked to.

Well I may end up having to back out now, so I'm completely up in the air! Travelmates vacation request got denied. Reevaluating this whole deal. Disappointed to say the least.

jumping on board for now, then I will go back and read the whole thread.
DH really wants to do this after seeing last years medal at the Princess 1/2.
It will either be all 6 of us traveling with 3 running or just me, DH and DS17 traveling and running.
Need to register soon, come on tax refund!

ha! Us too! My ds wants to run so badly - so thinking of registering today. It's a little hit after just getting back but the race is already over half full!

DH wasn't really on board with the whole running thing but after being at the 1/2, he seemed more excited about the medals than I was, and he was just a spectator!
I'm nervous that it will sell out before we get our check. And the 5K is already 1/2 full too.
He needs to hurry up and get home so we can discuss it. I'd like to take all the kids but I'd also kind of like to do something just me and him or take DS17 on his singleton trip.

He needs to drive faster!!

Still trying to decide if I want to do the 5K that weekend. I'm just not sure how I'd do running in the morning then again in the evening.

I signed up for both... With plans to not worry about 'running' the 5K- rather enjoy all the characters and atmosphere... Saving the energy for the 10 miler..

I am back and I have a few questions, again:

1. I subscribed to this thread to receive an email as soon as a post was made. I only got an email after my initial post was made, none since. What am I doing wrong?

I finally got the go-ahead to do the race. I am beyond excited, but nervous too. I am new to running. I have never done distance running before. My exercise was always via soccer, basketball, or sports like that. I am not built to be a runner. So, while I got the OK to register, I am a bit nervous. I am doing it all as a way to challenge myself. So, when I get my wallet out of the car tomorrow I am going to take the plunge and then wait for some warm weather up here in MA so I can start the training. :scared1:

2. Since I am new to running I don't know anything about timed races. I know if I go to this race with no timed race results I will be in the last coral. Question is, does that matter? Is it really bad to be last? If I want to run a race does it have to be a 10K? I saw someone posted a similar question earlier but I didn't see an answer. Am I better off emailing runDisney to get the answer?

3. I am going by myself. Do people ever get together down there for dinner or anything? My last 2 trips to Disney I went by myself. I am not opposed to do it alone, just thought if people did meet up it might be nice to meet some new people who don't think it's odd I love Disney so much.

Not sure on this. If you did not visit when you got that email, it could account for it. (since you visiting triggers another email when new posts are made)

Congrats! I never was athletic in any way shape form. I never "ran" other than in middle school when we were forced to run 2 miles. (and I walked that). Then a couple years ago I started (at age 42). I was am not built for running either. ToT was my first Disney race in 2012. I figure if I can do it and keep with it... anyone can. :goodvibes

If you have no POT, then yes you will be placed in one of the back corrals. It only matters for a couple of reasons. 1. If you get to a point where you are a faster runner than those in those corrals you will have a hard time because you will have to dodge them. And 2. If you are at all worried about keeping ahead of the sweepers (who keep the 16 minute mile pace) if you are all the ay in the back you have less of a buffer between them and you.

To submit a POT, yes... it has to be from a 10k or greater. I know wording for the marathon weekend was such that it also had to be from a USATAF certified race.

While I haven't participated in a meet up... I read about them often enough. I think between this thread and facebook groups, you should be able to find some like minded people. ;)
