Tower of Terror 10 Miler 2014

You will only get an update or two until you login again and click around either in this thread or anywhere on the boards.

Ok. That makes sense now. I come back to visit but don't always post. Now that I am posting I am getting emails. Thanks.

I'm doing this by myself too, and will most likely be towards the back, since this is my first race over a 5K. (My first 5K is Everest in May).
I decided last fall that I needed to get in shape, and I picked running.

Every week I'm shaving time off my mile. It feels great. I'm at 13:05 now, and want to get under 12 by October, which now seems absolutely possible. I figure if I can get a buffer between me and the balloon women, I'll be able to slow it down the 2nd half.

I have been thinking about buying a cheap point and shoot camera, since I don't want to carry my phone. (I'd rather drop and break a $100 camera than my phone). Any suggestions on that? I want to get it soon, so I can practice running while holding something.

Also, I live local. Is it worse to park at WWoS and use the shuttle than it is to stay at a host resort? I'm not opposed to booking a night's stay, but if I can save the money, I'd prefer.

Since it looks like I am in the last coral (all updated times needed to be submitted by July 1st I think the site said. I don't think I'll be in shape to run a 10k by June, I don't think I'll be stopping for pics. I wouldn't mind a few pics of myself at the finish line to prove I did it. Haven't looked into the camera thing though.

Once we get closer to the event, we should try to set up running/photo buddies. I'd be happy to pair up with someone, switch SD cards (or cameras if ours don't use the same memory media) and take pics of each other during the race. :) I'm not running for time, just for the experience, so being with someone slower than me (if they exist :rotfl:) won't bother me as long as we don't get swept.

We are on day 21 of registration and the event just rolled over 73% full. The 5k is 53% full.

If you are thinking of a great way to kick off the F&W fest, the time to enter is real soon.

i can't register til Friday- could I miss out if I wait a couple more days?

I'm in! First timer, last corral-er, here. Question: Do all runners get admission to the party or do we have to buy that ticket separately?

The after party is included in your race registration for the 10-miler.

Only people who are not racing need to purchase a party ticket for admission to the park. Non-runners utilize the main entrance for the park, whereas runners access the park from the finish area.

I think you will be ok. Maybe just check the runDisney event page each day to see if there is any spike in the capacity posting. With it only being at 73% after three weeks, I wouldn't really expect it to spike, though, until it gets closer to the March 26 date for the price to increase.

thanks! Just got back from PHM and put deposit on ToT room. Occurred to me I might have to take car of other stuff besides my RunDisney experiences.

There are other things to worry about other than planning and paying for the next race?

lol... this will be my first rundisney race and I just started running last year but I'm already finding this even with local races! I keep planning for upcoming races and when to schedule payments. I've found a June 10k so that's next on the payment list so I can use it for my proof of time.

Is anyone willing to share what they were offered for a TOT room rate? I'm wondering if I should book under the TOT rate or wait for an AP discount?

This is my first RunDisney race and we're super-excited. If you have any tips, we'd certainly appreciate hearing them.

I'm not running this race, and we've not used any runners packages for room reservations so far in our runDisney experience. My recollection is that it included a couple other things that actually bumped the price up a bit compared to the rack rates, though (could be wrong).

ETA: The above gray was indeed wrong as I've now reviewed and booked a W&D resort for a discounted rate through runDisney. I detailed a bit more in a below post regarding restrictions, etc.

You can see past discounts at this site and we snagged a pretty nice discount to stay at All-Star Movies for TOT last year. Generally speaking, that combined with any runDisney ticket options at least seemed to be the cheapest option. The caveat to this would be that past discounts aren't guarantees of future discounts, and depending on where you want to stay on property, discounts may not be available or as high as other resorts.

Something else you might consider is if the runDisney room packages are locked in the way other Disney Resort packages are, with less flexibility for changes than a room-only discount; that might help you weigh the risk/reward of waiting on potential room-only discounts, too.

I am not staying on property for ToT. I will offer that through the years I have found that the runD discount is always better than the rack rate but rarely better than AP or other promotional discounts.

Not sure you have to post, but you have to be logged in.

I got FQ from October 3- October 7th (4nights) for $644 (after taxes). Rack rate on these same dates, same resort was $859 (before taxes).

I was happy with that, but I'm not sure what AP usually offers.........

We booked at POP. Ended up with about an 18% room discount, but about 30% on tix. Overall it saved us about $650. We're cool with that, but will be watching for a better room discount. ;)

Congrats on you improvements....

Here is a link for an analysis of the marketplace for moisture proof point and shoots

I parked in the WWoS lot. I arrived a little early to have time to have a snack and get ready. I found no issue at all with the lot. For most official resorts you are going to have to bus regardless so you really do not same anything by parking elsewhere. Really the worst part of parking WWoS was that I could see my car as we ran by. It was so tempting.

Thank you.

Thanks for the link too. This helps alot. I'm a DSLR girl, but no way I'm carrying my 60D during a race. I haven't looked at point and shoots forever.

Thanks for the parking too. I live so close (i'm at 4 corners), I'd hate to pay for a room when parking at WWoS is just as easy.

Hmmm. . . I think I need to take another look at the room reservations. Maybe the one time I took a look just wasn't a good time, or I waited too long, because those are some pretty good numbers being discussed above.

My apologies for having spoken too soon in my earlier post(s)!
