Towel animals??

Do all rooms on site get towel animals? I have seen post about them, but that is all I know! Are they only something in the mod and deluxe resorts only or do you have a chance to get them at a value? We will be on site for the first time at POP in sept so I'm sooo excited! and I know my son would love to come into the room and see a little towel animal!

No! It is luck, something that each individual "Mousekeeper" does on their own. :goodvibes We had three left last time. I did a poll on this (well... on taking them or leaving them) a little while ago and was amazed that many people never even receive one!

Went to All Star Movies last week. Nothing when we arrived. Next day I decorated the windows for the 4th of July and we had 2 little guys in each window when we got back at night. We also got cup with a note that said "Nora likes tips!".

"Nora likes tips!"??? You've got to be kidding! That's pretty bold and I suspect would be frowned upon by mousekeeping mgt!:sad2:

In our many trips the first one we got was in 2005 when my niece went with us and I'm not sure who was more excited DH and I or her, this was in 80's at Pop. Since than we have gotten them upon arrival in our room both times in 2007 and this past trip in 2008. All at POP and all upon arrival in our room the first time. This last one was a hidden mickey.

Nora may like tips, but technically speaking, Nora isn't entitled to them. Housekeeping is not considered a 'tipping position' at WDW. However, most of us, here on the DIS, tend to tip our housekeepers if they do a reasonably decent job.
But, I have to tell you..if I got a note like that, I wouldn't be leaving Nora a tip...well, maybe a note that said...'Seabiscuit in the 4th race' but that's about it. I will not be told to tip by a housekeeper, bus driver, or bellperson.

Housekeeping is not considered a 'tipping position' at WDW.

according to a CBR CM on another forum whose mother is a housekeeper, it actually is considered a tipped position now (and has been for a while at least)

that doesn't mean asking for one is justified though.

This is just a "word of mouth from a cm" type of thing. There has been no "disney announcement"

Good friend of mine is a mousekeeper at one of the deluxes. She says the mousekeepers are cutting back because unfortunately guest have been getting rather mean about them. She herself is not making anymore because as she puts it she is getting tired of "moms running her down demanding towel animals left in the room" before the leave in the morning.
She hates doing them now.
Unfortunately like any thing else, the popularity of them is killing it.

That's really to bad. I loved receiving them BUT I would never hunt them down and demand one. :confused3

I'm thinking that tipping definitely has an effect. As stated in this thread, housekeepers make them on their own time. Also, housekeepers like to get tips. It is reasonable to believe that housekeepers would like to keep tipping customers happy. Therefore, housekeepers may be more likely to make towel animals for those people who are tipping often and heavily. Our experiences at the resorts support this position.

On our med cruise last year, it worked out just the opposite because all tipping is done at the end of the cruise. Our 'stateroom hostess' left us tons of towel animals as well as left us friendly notes. Therefore, we gave her a huge tip.

I will be honest- In all the times we have gone to Disney, we have never received a towel animal - the maids usually take the kids' stuffed animals & arrange them on the couch or bed but no animals out of towels. We did receive a towel purse one time - that was cute - it was hanging on our door.

We received 1 on our 2006 trip and 3 on the one after that. Our friends staying in the room next door only got 1, and there DD was a little jealous of our DD...like most posters, I consider this a bonus perk...I don't expect it. I don't think the OP was being demanding at all.

I suspect that while tipping doesn't affect things, I think having evidence of a small child in your room does...but that's pretty subjective, too.

I was really just wanting to know if it was a possibility to get them in a value resort! or if it was a mod or deluxe resorts only. I was not expecting it or going to ask for one, but thought I would tell my husband it might be a possibility, if people had received them in a value before. I would never tell my son, so if we did not receive one he would not be disappointed.

We got one at POP last year and had never gotten them before at other stays (both deluxe and mods) I think it is just luck of the draw

Last year I got 2 at Pop and my sister (staying a Poly) got a whole herd, although I think alot were left by the previous family. The year before I was staying at the GF and didn't get any.

The two I got were on my check-in day and the day after. After those first two days it stopped. I think the mousekeepers were switched because the second only rearranged the stuffed animals, etc. and left notes.

I tipped throughout the stay for all of my trips.

Last August at the Contemporary my family and I only got one towel animal and last December at the Polynesian we did not get any. Personally I don't care if we end up getting them or not, because I don't see the hype in them and I find it weird when others say they will be disappointed if they don't get them. I only say that because your on vacation in WDW so what can be better then that? Plus the housekeepers make them on their own time so leaving a note or leaving tips will not increase your chances of getting them. Besides isn't it more important that the housekeeper does a better job cleaning your room instead of making towel animals?

If they do make them on their own time then it shouldn't interfere how on good of a job they do cleaning your room. So what you said doesn't make sense. You should also be careful of calling what is important to someone weird-what is important to some may not be important to you but does that make what you think weird?

Questions about towel animals are best suited to the Resorts Board and I'll be moving this there.

The towel animals are made 'off clock' generally speaking and sometimes during housekeeper downtime.

I've been on trips and got one or two.. and I've been on trips and got zero.

You can't force 'magic and pixie dust' ... and I have often found that when anticipating ONE thing ... constantly.. well that tends to result in missing all these other wonderful things that are happening all around me.

Towel animals, Dream Team, being picked for Jedi Training.. these are intended to be and should be 'surprises' .. counting on or expecting them is a recipe for disappointment.

Just my 2 cents.

The problem with posting on a message board is you can't see the feelings when someone posts. If anyone has a problem with a post please use the report a post button. We can't always agree. This board is about resort planning not debating the merits of towel animals.

I agree with Knox. Towel animals are surprises. They are intended for every room every day. Consider them a little bit of pixie dust.

I don't see where the OP said that she expected one-just that it would be nice to get one which I think we can all agree with-it would be nice.

we too have been to WDW a bunch of times, stayed at value, mods, and deluxes. I have gotten 4 towel animals in all....and those were at the GF Feb of 2007, and thats the only ones I have recieved. I didnt even know they existed until I started reading the DIS, :surfweb: so I never expected them, but that is the first thing I look for when I walk into my clean room!:lmao:
So, dont get your hopes up that you will have one. (im just thankful for a refill on shampoo and conditioner!!!:lmao: )

Have a great trip!
