Towel Animals, has this happened to you?

*sigh*

split hairs Fig. to quibble; to try to make petty distinctions.

So it would be OK if she demanded a towel animal for a payment, but not OK to request one politely for a tip? Who would write a rude note like that? No one. You are putting conditions on the situation that would never take place.

Nope, not splitting hairs. There is a big difference. The OP did not put in writing that making a towel animal was a condition of taking the tip. They may have thought that, but it wasn't obvious to the housekeeper. And why would it be, when they usually get tips without having to make a towel animals for them?

It is ok to politely request one, and leave a tip. It is not ok to leave a tip but think to yourself "They had better not take it, unless I get a towel animal". That makes it not a tip, but payment for services rendered. And how you would expect houskeeping to know that, without being told, is the question. I can't see any houskeeper thinking to themselves "Well, here is a tip for me. But I don't have time today to make a towel animal. Too many rooms to do. Guess I better leave the tip behind." The making of towel animals is NOT what they are usually tipped for, so why should they assume that is what is going on, this one time?

WHAT?! Lie to your kids to make your job as a parent easier?! I can just see it now.... Saying that only sick kids get towel animals then the next day POOF a towel animal shows up in the room. The child, with tears in his/her eyes turns to mom "Mommy, am I sick?"

Yeah. Don't lie. Towel animals are a fun and wonderful EXTRA. Some people get them and some don't. :headache:

Lying to make the job easier is no different than paying someone off. The hard part is explaining to your kid and telling them life isn't fair, not everyone gets the same thing. Yes, it stinks but we have to deal with it. Then deal with the kid's melt down or tears and work them through it.

It's easier to lie to them or give someone $10 and say give me what my kid wants.

If I can work a barely verbal autistic child with limited comprehension and severe auditory processing issues through a meltdown over things he wants and can't have, I can't understand how parents of typical children can't do the same. It should be much easier for you guys!

Wow..... after reading this incredible thread! i have to say i must be one of those monster type Mothers, who dont like my children being disapointed on their holiday!!!! And i would actually do the same as the OP and leave a note saying could i please have a towel animal, and i have done this :scared1: whilst also leaving a tip with it! I did indeed get the towel animal!
I also want to add that we have always gotten the toothbrush holders made out of the towels, but that my mum who comes on every holiday leaves her room much cleaner then we prob leave ours and doesnt tip as much gets towel shapes etc everyday almost! as their is less to do in her room.
Another thing is when i 1st started going to Disney towel animals was very rare (ive been going for the last 25yrs) almost every yr!!! but the last few yrs i have seen towel shapes etc in nearly ever room so of course my children (who im SORRY are not spoilt!!!) or DEMANDING are going to be a little upset when we dont have one in our room! luckily its only happened a few times(and i would never give the they must have paid more , stayed more nights children are sick excuse) and mainly they enjoy it when we come bk to see their beloved teddys enjoying park maps or sitting on headboards! My children also spend a great deal of time making mousekeeping envelopes with stickers drawings etc on them! as we like to teach our children that its nice to do things for others, they also leave a great deal of their pool blow ups, arm bands bucket, spades even trick or treating sweets(bags of), as we cant take them on the plane... we do try and talk to our house keeper and we often find out that they have lots of children or grand children,so my boys feel its their way of saying thankyou when leaving these items as they know they are blessed and lucky to be on holiday at all! and they are only 5,5,and 8.But if i could try and get something for them like a Towel Animal no matter how small and unessential others feel it is to my childrens holiday i will try my best to get it! Because after all they are CHILDREN and do not need to be expected to be happy about not recieving one.Nor do my children need to be thinking about starving children on their happy holiday I feel they are aware of it the rest of the time, even more so when my hubby their daddy leaves us alot of the time to go away with the RAF and they have to worry wether or not he will be home! so please dont make your children grow up too quickly by expecting them to understand why one child has something that they dont when like everybody has said its a Simple Towel Animal, I feel they would understand they couldnt have it more if it was something much much bigger then that!

Wow after reading here I'm glad there is still a little magic that can not be bought or demanded.
Towel animals are a little magic you sometimes get and can not be bought or demanded because your "Veruschka" is stamping her feet.
Every child has the same chances to get one and to the Mousekeerpers is doesn't matter if a child is healthy, rich, poor, handicapped or has a daddy that is not always at home.

We just got back from POP (10 nights) and only got the one towel animal that came with the room. I left a few reasonable tips just for daily cleaning with slim hopes of more animals, but no dice. My husband even hid the one we had just to prompt for more, but again no. This didn't surprise me since on our last visit we stayed at two different resorts and the towel animal saga was hit and miss. I learned to go ahead of the family sometimes and quickly arrange the stuffed animals, balloons, or what have you in the window or on the bed. My kids always thought mousekeeping did it so it made it more fun. It was slightly disappointing not to get anymore, but I already knew it was the luck of the draw.
