Excellent news!

Here is an update on the controversial tourist tax. Last Thursday the Finance Committee of the French Assembly made some amendments to the draft Finance Act.

Besides reducing the number of hotel categories from seven down to three, the amendments tabled indicate that the increase in hotel tax for each of the three hotel grades will be between 0.20 to 3.50 euro per person per night.

They also provide three exemptions: children, seasonal workers and people relocated and staying in an hotel as emergency accommodation.

There will now be a new reading of the draft amended Finance Act for 2014 (RFLP) on 15 July. If the bill is passed the new tax will come into force on 1 January 2015.

So for the Santa Fe and Cheyenne we could see a rise of 0.20 euro cents per adult per night and for the Disneyland Hotel will see a rise of 3.50 euros per adult per night, with Hotel New York, Newport Bay Club and Sequoia Lodge somewhere between the two. And the news that children will now not be included is very good news.

Thanks for the update Jonjo. I'd been trying to find info on google about this but without luck.

Did the reading go ahead on 15 July? Was it due to be passed the same day or do these things take longer than that?!

And I guess the ultimate question is - has it been passed?
