Touringplans Line App and touring plans

I read a 2012 comment about the Lines App being a wrapper for the information in the member's section of the web site, which I assume means you are logged on to their web site to get the information. Do you actually login through the Lines App? Or is there more to it?

The TP web site and Lines are two distinct things. You need to log into each separately. Logging into one does not get you into the other. The website has a lot of free info you can get without a subscription or logging in. Often when you are using a computer or devise, you may stay logged in even after closing.

My thought was: I'm spending THIUSANDs of dollars on my vacation why I am worried about spending $10-$12 on a subscription that may help improve my trip?

I will say that being able to customize touring plans based on attractions you'll want to do, FP+, meals and breaks is a great way to at least organize your thoughts for individual days on your trip even if you ignore their advice to a degree.

I used the touring plans on my Feb trip and found them really helpful. I only worked with the customized ones so that they catered to our needs (and reservations) for the day. I didn't follow them religiously..more just as a blueprint to avoid feeling overwhelmed or unsure of what to do next.

I did have the line app on my phone but on the first day at MK there were lots of inaccuracies so I gave up. However would definitely use TP again and don't regret my subscription at all.

I added them through the website. Not sure if they can be added or edited through Lines,I haven't tried. But, I do see them all on Lines and I know you can Optimize on Lines in park so I'm guessing there should be a way to edit. (EDIT - I just went in to Lines and there is a link to edit your plan and fastpasses)

How I did it was to add the attraction to the plan first and then added that I have a fastpass for it.

On the web site, in your plan, there is a section in between "Plan Preferences" and "Your Plan Steps" called "Fastpass+ Options" with a green plus sign next to it.

If you click on the green plus sign it should then allow you to choose up to three fastpasses. You pick your attraction then the start time of your window.

I can't remember the exact next steps, but i think I hit Evaluate and it incorporated the fastpasses. It would disregard them if I was trying to use them during low line times where it wouldn't matter.

Right, but to access the information in the lines App do you need to be logged into the web site as well at the same time as the App?

I really don't know the inner workings, but if you need to be logged into both at the same time say when you are at the park to use the Lines app my assumption would be that maybe it's using more data possibly.

I do realize they have free WiFi in the parks, but if I have to use my phone's cellular data my concern would be that I would be using more data then if this were just a stand alone app.

I can't recall if anyone already addressed your last sentence, but when you go to touring plans to subscribe there should be a way to apply a promo. It will ask you specific questions that can be found in your Guide. Once you answer it should apply the discount.

I don't think you need to be logged in to the website to log in to the lines app in the park.

No. However, the Lines app does not include all the info on the website. If you have a browser, bookmark the TP website for use when you think it is needed.

I was considering a subscription on touringplans.com when I came across a couple of things on their web site. Are the templates for the touring plan plans integrated with the Lines Mobile app?

Thanks for the reply. I think someone did mention that to me. So I was aware that when you subscribe and want to get the 35% discount you have to provide information from a specific page from the Unofficial Guide.

Something I did just find out that I didn't know is that the discount for the 2015 Unofficial Guide is good until the end of this year. So if you were to get a subscription to the Touring Plans website in 2016, you have to purchase the 2016 Unofficial Guide to get the 35% discount even if you do not take advantage of the 35% discount for buying the 2015 Unofficial Guide.

Touring Plans is an awesome tool! I choose the "very relaxed" speed and the "minimize walking" when selecting walking vs waiting. This allows us time to enjoy the magic, so to speak, and not feel quite so restricted. Time for washroom breaks, stopping into a shop, etc. FP+ are easy to add. When you do, your TP is instantly revised with your new FP+ times. The Lines app also takes your plans and allows you to optimize on the fly. Let's say you're running late or a ride breaks down...clickity click...done! Oh, and you can select your resort room preferences on this site and they even send your resort requests for you several days before arriving. You can also receive alerts and messages pertaining to your trip dates. I can't say enough good things about Touring Plans!

Thanks for the clarification. The only way I can take your initial thought is as being flippant. You implied that it was stupid I would be worrying about a $12.99 subscription when already paying thousands of dollars for a trip.

So just to clarify, I wasn't worried about the price. I was just wondering if it was worth the price based on how well the app works, which is what the entire last sentence here in bold was about.

I haven't used them at wdw, we have our first visit in a week. I did use them at Disneyland and California adventure last spring break. I loved the optimize in park feature. I had a 4 and 8 yo and we veered off the track at times, so optimizing was very helpful.

I've made a few different plans, nearly all my days are minimized walking, but only one is relaxed speed right now, the rest are average. I'm going to make copies of them and change them from average to relaxed and see what changes. The double plans I already have use different starting times, depending on when I can get us all to the gates. For this change, I'd rather have the later start time ready to go than need to re optimize my early entry plans from the get go.

I definitely thought the sub to get Lines was worth it last year. I'm looking forward to having it in the parks in a week.

Not the poster who brought it up, but I am also interested in how the faxed room request goes. I've seen at least one reply in the touring plans forum that it's worked out well at our resort so that is neat. I'll be there on the 27th and can report back how it went. I picked the rooms I wanted most, then several other options, and then also what we were looking for if none of those were available either so they would have some idea of why we wanted those rooms in the first place.

I don't really remember much about the alerts.

I add my fake FP+ the same way I do the real ones, just ahead of time. Lol I look at the first TP draft the site shoots out at me, look for the longest wait time, then add a faker near that time. And I do one at a time. ie. I'll enter one for Space Mtn then optimize. Then enter the next one, optimize, and so on. I'll remove them only after I get my real ones, as I can be looking at my TP while I'm making my FP+ selections!

I'm sure you made some requests through you TA, but you can still do similar requests on Touriing Plans. You'll be brought to a resort map and once you select a room, you can see a view from that area of the resort. If you like it, click it as your preferred room and Touring Plans will take care of the rest near your travel dates.

I received 2 alerts so far for my upcoming trip in August. One was the date ticket prices were increasing. Another was when the next discounts were coming out. Pretty awesome!
