Hi - I'm getting ready for my first trip to DL in a little over a week. I will really only have one day - will be traveling solo. I'll be there on a Friday but cannot get there at rope drop. Will probably be around 10 am but I can stay until closing. I'll have a park hopper.

I've never seen either park so I want to see both....but I'll probably concentrate mostly on DL. Where would you go first? Which rides have single rider lines? And, which rides do you usually get fast passes for?

My favorites at WDW are Haunted Mansion, Pirates, and It's a Small World. I LOVE soarin but it will be closed when I'm there. So will Peter Pan. I definitely want to hit the Cars ride, Monsters Inc, Mr. Toad, and Alice since we don't have those at WDW. But, I love the classics.

Thanks!!!

Here is a list of SR lines:

Lots of the rides are down for refurb so that will make things easier for you. ;)

Between FP and SR you should have no trouble navigating all the headliners.

Not sure what to recommend. Ride POTC for sure. Space Mtn and Indiana Jones too. At DCA RSR would be a must. ToT maybe. Not as good as WDW but good. CA Screamin if you like RnR.

You might want to start in DL FantasyLand. Alice is great. Love Toad too for nostalgia.

Have fun!

write a list of what you actually need to do, there is not enough info above to give you a path of least resistance . Where do you plan to be at 10:00?

Be sure to grab a fast pass for Fantasmic! I'm not sure what time they run out, but I would recommend seeing the 2nd show to maximize your park time.
RSR is great at night, and I highly recommend single rider line. The neon in Cars Land is great, so definitely visit at night if you can.

If I see Fantasmic, how much time will be spent on that (time waiting and viewing)? How early do you need to arrive when you have a fast pass? I know I'd love Fantasmic but I would say that the attractions/rides are my biggest priority. So, if I'll lose a couple hours on it I'm wondering if I should use that time for rides instead.

It can vary depending on how "good" of a view you want, but I'd say anywhere up to two hours or so. F! itself is 23 minutes in length. They do not allow guests with FPs to enter the viewing areas until about 60 minutes for the show starts. Some folks will start to line up before that so they can get their ideal location, but I don't think they allow a line to really form that much in advance (maybe 15 minutes or so). Getting the FP itself should not be that bad (5-10 minutes would be my guess).

If you see the second show, which doesn't start until 10:45pm, then you won't lose a couple hours because you won't be able to line up that early anyway. Here's what I would do, grab a fastpass and then decide later if you can fit it in or not. It won't count against any of your other fastpasses, so there's no harm in getting one. If at 9:45pm you are in the right place at the right time and feel like heading over there, then go for it, if not then no big deal. Also, you might want to call "Ask Otto" before going to pull your fastpass to see which show they are giving out. You don't want to waste time walking over there if they are not yet giving them out for the 2nd show or if they are already gone.
Also "Ask Otto" is wonderful for checking wait times and fastpasses. We used it a lot on our last trip and it really saved us a lot of time. I hate walking across the park to an attraction only to find a long line when we could have done something else.

I tried asking Otto about Fantasmic the other day and he would only tell me the show times, not the current FP information. I tried just saying "Fantasmic" and then "Fantasmic Fastpass" but I got the same information (show times).

Oops, figment, you're right! I just called and they only gave show times. Didn't even mention anything about fast passes. What a bummer! I think they need to update Otto. I know with the attractions they will tell you the current available fast pass return times and we really appreciated that feature.

Yeah, I suspect Otto only has the information for the attractions and show times. I called asking about the Olaf and the Anna & Elsa M&Gs and it said I should speak with a Cast Member. So it also doesn't have the information for those return tickets.

Made some slight changes...

Not getting there at park opening would normally be difficult, but you can probably work around it since your going solo.

Head to Disneyland first
10am-1130am Get a FP for Space Mountain, Ride Jungle Cruise, Use Single Rider for Indiana Jones
1130am-1230pm Pirates of the Caribbean and get a FP for Big Thunder Mountain and Fantasmic (You want a return for the 2nd show), use FP for Space Mountain
1230pm Lunch
1pm-130pm: Use FP for Big Thunder Mountain
130pm: Head to California Adventure
2pm-4pm: Grab a FP for Tower of Terror, Use Single Rider line for California Screamin, then Symphony Swings, use Single Rider for Goofy, and finish with the Little Mermaid
4pm-6pm: Use FP for Tower of Terror, Ride Mater's Junkyard Jamboree, use Single Rider for Radiator Springs Racers
6pm: Dinner
630pm-7pm: Ride Monsters
7pm Head back to Disneyland
7pm-830pm: Do some of the dark rides in Fantasyland. Especially Alice.
830pm-930pm: Ride Small World, take train from Toontown station to New Orleans Square station to get ready for the 2nd Fantasmic area by 930pm. You may also be able to get a Big Thunder FP during this time if you would like to do that again.
Whatever the return time on the Fantasmic FP says, be near the waiting area 15 minutes early.
