Hello,

We are stating in POFQ pre and post disney cruise. My boyfriend has never been to the world and I was wondering if we could take Disney Transportation and tour some of the other hotels? Such as Polynesian resort? Go to the shops and maybe the beach there?

You sure can, but you will need to transfer from a park or DTD to get there. There are no buses that run between resorts. You could take the bus the MK and take a monorail tour of the GF, Poly, and CR. While there, you could catch a boat to WL and FW. Same with the Epcot resorts. You could take the bus to Epcot and exit out the International Gateway to tour those resorts.

Yes, like PP said - do a monorail tour. We have done this more than once and its a lot of fun.

To visit the Epcot resorts around Crescent Lake, take your resort bus to Hollywood Studios. From there, walk the path or board the boat to the resorts area. That way you won't use a park admission (walking thru Epcot) to see the resorts. The Epcot Resorts are beautiful to see, so are the Swan and Dolphin.

If you're at Epcot for the day, exit at International Gateway (between UK and France) and you'll be right there.

You should be able to play in the sand, but not go in the water. All the waterways at WDW are posted not to enter.

They are happy to let you tour resorts. What better way to attract future customers.

As others have said, yes you can do this. Just be aware that you cannot swim at the beach at the Poly. Swimming is not allowed in any of the lakes/rivers/lagoons at WDW.

This has become as important to us as going to the parks (well, maybe not AS important) We love to tour other resorts. We often dine there, shop and visit the lounges if it is the right time of day.:)

Was it always that way? I haven't been to the Poly since 1982, but I definitely have pictures of me in the water there then. Was I being a bad girl or did it used to be allowed?

When we went in the 80s we went in the water but now they have found that there is some bacteria in all the lakes in Florida and a few alligators and snakes too I assume.

We LOVE visiting other resorts for shopping and meals during our trips. This past trip we took advantage of the RFID mugs and did a "Drinking (Diet Coke) Around the Monorail Loop" tour of Poly, GF, CR, and then home to WL. It was fun for us. :)

Love resort touring! The Boardwalk makes for a fun night and if you go to Poly, make sure to have dinner at O'hana!

I guess I'm lucky I didn't get eaten by the alligators. Good thing I didn't realize they were there when I was 10, I would have been terrified. And of course I only glow a little at night from all the junk in the water, although that might have been from all the toxic waste at the Jersey shore back in the 80's.

Not all lakes in Florida! Mainly dorment lakes that do not have an inlet to help circulate the water. So during the summer the water gets very warm and perfect for bacteria. But, yes all lakes in Florida will have gators and snakes:)

I do not know exactly when it changed, except it was after 1995. We swam in the lake from FW and there were no signs that it was not allowed. I know that now there are many signs about not swimming.

From what I remember, as others said it is due to bacteria that can be harmful, mostly to young children. In fact, there were a number of children through the South this summer that were affected by this and some died.

Since most adults are not affected, you will see triathlons that use Bay Lake for the swimming portion.

Actually, adults are affected by the amoeba. We had some adults die in here in Louisiana when they used tapwater instead of sterile water in their neti pot.

You just have to keep the water out of your nose (so triathalon swimmers should wear a noseplug).

Google "brain eating amoeba".

BTW, even though the main pool at River Country looked like a part of Bay Lake it was actually a separate body of water, even with chlorinated water I think. The water was being kept separate by some kind of inflatable barrier.

Hotels are public places! Disney wants you to see them all, more luck for them that you'll see more and want to come back more often!
My teen daughter likes to visit around all the resorts and ask to look at their pin boards and pin books. It is a fun thing to do. Enjoy!:goodvibes

Sure can, OP! Visit MK, then hop on the monorail and stop off at either/all of the 3 Monorail Resorts. Watch Wishes from Poly Beach. See the Electric Water Pageant on 7 Seas Lagoon. Take the boat to Ft. Wilderness and wander around, visit the Tri-Circle-D ranch. There's good watering holes at each resort, too. Don't forget, from POFQ, to take the boat to DTD and wander around those shops and visit their eateries, too.
