We have been contemplating a DVC purchase for several months and have received materials via mail and email. We finally went on the tour while at Disney World last week. We love BLT and will most likely buy there.

On the tour, the incentives offered were:

1. $5 off per point on purchase price = $107 per point
2. matching developer points (e.g. buy 160, get 160) to be used at Saratoga Springs, California, etc. or RCI by Oct. 3
3. Gift card worth $5 per point purchased (e.g. 5 x 160 = $800) that can be used on down payment.

I need to call by later this afternoon to let them know that we are interested in making a purchase to get the above incentives.

When I returned home, I had an email that was sent a day or two before our tour. It included the following offers:

1. Purchase 220 and get a 5 night vacation at any of the Disney club locations to be taken by Oct. 3 (3 nights for 160 points?)
2. $1000 gift card that can be used on your trip

It did not list the purchase price. I certainly wouldn't take this deal if the price per point is up to $112.

Now, I've been seeing postings about referrals and getting a cruise, etc.
I don't wish to go on a cruise, but am wondering if I would get an additional incentive to the tour offerings if I have a referral. Or are the two not to be combined? Does your referral need to be from your home state? I have a friend that had a DVC, but I'm not sure that she still owns it.

Thanks!

Hi there sunshine,

Glad to here you may be joining. Your referral can be from anyone, The deals are changing on the 28th of march (or at least that what I heard) the current deals you listed are independent of each other. But yes you can buy in and get the discount (5 off BLT and 6.25 of AKV) and get the developer points at SSR or deposit them into RCI. (we went with DP's) I think you are all set, as you already have a guide, but if you need a referral name you can certainly use ours if needed (gets us a bit of cash..which you and I would split, I think it is 200) Anyway, your guide can give more details, I emailed the heck out of my guide (derek Deboer) with a bunch of questions before we bought. Well good luck and I can try to answer other questions if you have them. Alex Malaguti.

My understanding is that with a referral you would get the OPTION of a free cruise or the developer points.

You should also note that you get an extra years worth of points if you buy BLT now. You will get 2009 points and only have to pay annual dues from Aug 09 to Dec 09. Then on Feb 10 you get your next set of points. Plus you get the matching developer points. This really is a good deal if you like BLT. I would take this. They say the next incentives won't be so good, but you never know. They could do a bigger drop in price per point. It still is pretty early in the sales of BLT and AKV still isnt even open yet, so I am not sure they will be discounting too much this soon. Good luck on your decision. We went on the tour last week and are close, but unfortunately we weren't WOWWED by BLT!

Do keep in mind that you can buy on the resale market for a lot less. You won't be able to get BLT for some time, but if you like AKV or SSR then you would want to buy off the resale market vs. Direct disney!

Good luck

We did the tour on March 8th and bought into BLT. I used the name of an existing DVC member and received $5 off per point and a 4-night cruise. For what it's worth, my guide told me that those incentives were going away on March 15th, but who knows if that's really the case? I think the other option was a $1,000 gift card and a 5-night stay at SSR but we love to cruise so it was a no-brainer for us - LOL. And, no, your referral does not have to be from your home state or anyone that you even know. Anyway, good luck! :goodvibes

I know for a fact that the current incentives didn't expire March 15th. We took the tour on the 15th and the same incentives were offered. And the gift card is UP TO $1,000, depending on how many points you buy. You get either a gift card OR a purchase price reduction for the amount of $5 per point.

Yeah, my guide just told me on the phone yesterday they'll be expiring and changing on the 31st... I guess it's just kind of a wait and see thing.

I thought you couldn't have a member referral applied unless you gave them the name the very first time you speak with a DVC guide - they won't let you add a member referral later. That was my understanding, anyway.

The other thing to remember is that if new incentives, better incentives come out after you purchase, but before you close, you can contact your guide and ask to renegoiate the deal.

Any changes can be made before the closing actually occurs. Once you sign your papers, you have, by law, 10 days to cancel out. DVC does not process closing until after this date have passed. Once the closing is done, then the deal is final.

I just signed my papers for my BLT add on. If a new incentive comes out at the end of the month (someone posted on the boards they heard their would be a Disney Visa incentive that would include AP's) and it would enhance my deal, then I certainly will contact my guide to see if I have closed. If I havent, then I will certainly ask if I can get the new ones as well.

My ears just perked up, where did you hear? :woohoo:

You can have a members name added for a referral. you just have to have a guide that is willing to do it. I know that I have referred a few people that had already spoke to a guide and then came on here and asked for a referral and it was honored.

I scanned through all these post please forgive me if I missed this.

It is my understanding that there is 2 different DVC Promos going right now

1. Free Cruise Promo going with a DVC Referral.

2. Free 5 Days with 200 point purchase (I could be wrong about the amount) & 1,000 Gift Card.

Here is my question (I know it is a shot in the dark). Can these promos be combined so if I purchase the 200 points and have a referral I get all of these things?

Unfortunately, no. It is one or the other. You are also eligible for developer points if you don't want the cruise.

The only thing that I do not know, and have yet to see confirmation one way or the other is if the $1000.00 gift card that comes with the 5 night stay, is the same as the $5.00 off per piont you get with the cruise.

I believe they are the same thing (ie: you wouldn't get $5.00 off per point AND $1000.00 GC). Someone might be able to give more specifics.

Sandi is correct. You will get either the cruise and the $5.00 per point discount (which, for us, ended up being $1,100 since we bought 220 points) *or* the 5-night SSR stay and the $1,000 gift card. Either you can apply towards your 10% down payment, or Disney will give you a loaded gift card. However, in order to get the discounted point/cruise incentive, you must have a DVC referral (just a member's name and their city and state).

Just chiming in to say that yes, this is correct - you don't get a $5 per point discount AND $5 per point towards the down payment or in the form of a gift card.
