So, this will be our third visit. We know which rides we want to go on, we know which parks will have extra magic hours, BUT we are going at a very busy time (july) So my question is-has anyone used tour guide mike and if so was it usefull,or a waste of money?

We used TGM last year. Although I found the site good I am not sure I would use it all the time. I think if I was going at a busy time of year it would be a definate bonus.

It costs $21.95 I think, and for this you would have access to the site from now until your trip. There are loads of articles to read on there, make sure you set some time to do so.

:)

We have been going most years since 1998 in off peak times. I research & plan (like most good disers) from the get go & have always found the "Unofficial Guide to Disneyworld" park plans have made our visits queue free - HOWEVER- this year we went with first-timers leading up to the Easter break & I wanted to make the experience as pain free as possible so I enlisted the help of TOURGUIDE MIKE. His plans were invaluable & correct to the letter. A couple of times I deviated (as I thought after several visits I knew best):scared: How wrong can a girl be?? You probably gather from this that I am a fan & think the small charge is well worth the amount of info available. Whatever you decide, enjoy:love:

Another Tour Guide Mike fan here, our trips have been a breeze due to his suggestions and the best days calendar. Also if you click on his link at the top of on of the boards you get a $3 discount. Since I just signed back up for my third use of his site I only paid $9.95 very worth it and a great community on the boards over there!

I'm a long-time TGM subscriber, but then I'm a planning sponge and buy every guide book, too. For that reason, it's difficult for me to answer the question as posed. It's worth it for me, that's the best I can say. I take from it what I want and ignore the rest.

What you need to understand is that Mike is a past Disney Tour Guide Cast Member and, for several years now, has been running his own tour guide business. He is in the parks every day with his guests and still has many insider contacts. I can't begin to imagine who could possibly have a better idea of crowd patterns.

His 'Least Crowded Parks' articles alone are worth the subscription cost, IMHO, particularly if you are visiting at a busy time. They go much further than the normal guide book observations of, for example, avoiding EMH days. They are day by day (for every day of the year) observations of the likely crowds based on his experience. In case you missed the significance the first time, it bears repeating - he is in the parks every day.

There are also some great strategies for the parades and shows, including where to get the best view.

The downsides? There is so much information on his site that it can seem overwhelming. I'm convinced many subscribers probably never find the will to wade through it. Just accept that you don't have to comprehend it all in one go. This isn't a personalised planner as such. It's a huge collection of articles from which you devise your own plan. There is also, now, a discussion forum - a small community - which definitely adds something.

Much of his crowd-busting plans revolve around getting to the parks early and taking mid-afternoon breaks. That isn't going to suit everyone. Bear in mind, too, that his touring plans are written for an American audience and Americans tend to vist for much shorter periods than we do, so his plans really pack in the headliner shows and attractions. This is a very simplified explanation of what he offers, though, and I'm certainly not suggesting that this is all there is to it. I've always maintained that there really is some unique information available to TGM subscribers.

What you can be sure of is that the information is accurate and up to date. Mike will comment on rumour, but he never incorporates anything into his planning articles until he has received confirmation from a reliable source. His contacts mean he is often ahead of the game on both the rumour front and the official line.

As an alternative, you might want to consider the Personalised Itinerary Planning Service offered by Simon and Susan Veness (at a discount to owners of a current 'Brit's Guide'). They also spend a good deal of time in Orlando and the parks so their observations are reliable. Theirs is a plan tailored specifically for your party and dates and, as such, is much more structured (good for some, not necessarily so for others, I guess). They take into account your preferences (you say you know what attractions you want to experience, for example) and the plan is, unsurprisingly, much more suited to the British visitor who tends to be in Orlando for two weeks and who wants to experience much more than just WDW. My one criticism (and it's a big one) is that you won't receive your PIP until around a week before your trip. This does, of course, guarantee that you have up to date information - crowds, weather, show times, etc. My preference would be to receive a draft plan when ordering and then a revised plan, taking into account all the current information, shortly prior to the trip.

I have picked up many tidbits from TGM which have warranted the subscription cost for me. For a visit during a particularly busy time, I don't think you'd regret the outlay.

WOW, thanks for the replies and good info guys :thumbsup2 I`m going to pour a coffee and sign up today for tour guide mike....I`m a planning sponge too Debbie, the more info the better...and no wonder Mike`s got a smile on his face if he`s at the parks every day!!
Thanks again

We are going June 30th to July 17th 07. I really want to book our ADRs but TGM has not updated his "best days for the parks" for July, even though the EMH hours have been in the public domain for a while. Emailed the TGM site a few days ago and just got an automated reply. Not impressed. Thumbs down from me.:hourglass

sorry if this sounds daft but is the TGM service?

Is it a website with park info on it or does he suggest activities?

I`ve worked out our best days by looking at last years park hours ..hope this helps...you could always cancel ADR`s if the hours change

I have noticed that TGM is not always as quick with the updates as he once was. I guess that's the disadvantage of being in the parks every day - it must be difficult to find the time to keep on top of it all.

We went xmas 2005 and was also there for New Year. I used TGM plus some other books. I found that TGM got me to the point were on New Years Eve I was holding a bunch of fast passes at 10 pm at night when the queues were horrible We found his plans and info to be fantastic, we didnt que for more than 15 mins for any ride, I would go for it again in a heart beat.

Helen, it's described as an Automated Vacation Planner. When you sign up, you provide all sorts of information (dates, party size, budget, onsite/offsite amongst other things) all of which you can amend subsequently, if necessary. You will then receive access to the website and your AVP (which is a collection of articles from the website selected in accordance with the information you provided). However, you have access to all the information, not just that included in your AVP. You can then tailor it to your requirements by adding or deleting articles - each one contains a + or - button (depending on whether or not it is already included in your AVP). Articles are grouped under certain headings (Parks, Hotels, Dining, etc.) and include photos, tips, reviews and, most importantly, Mike's strategies for everything you can think of from the best times to see the parades to how to get your hotel room special requests met.

There are 'Calendar Clipboards' for each month with links to everything you need to know for the time of your visit (Park Hours, Showtimes, Special Events, Weather, Least Crowded Parks, etc.). There's also a Discussion Forum including boards dedicated to your month of departure where you can swap notes with others who will be there at the same time as you.

You can take a look at the site here.

I joined TGM about a week ago and oh my word what a ton of info. I'm sure after lots of searching I'll find all the relevant stuff to me but at the moment I keep getting lost! I've got until August though so wish me luck. I am hoping that the August best days will be released before 13th Feb when I can do my ADR's.

We just got back from our Christmas/New Year trip and used Tour Guide Mike for the second time. His advice is especially fantastic for the busiest times of year. We didn't wait for any rides for longer than 10 minutes and this was a week where there were 3 of the parks closed on the one day because of the crowds. If it hadn't been for TGM I would not have even attempted to go this week of the year because I am no good in crowds but it was absolutely fine even on NYE.

Worth every single penny:thumbsup2

PS His site does take a little while to get used to because of all the info but once you get the hang of it it is wonderful :)
