Tour Groups from Brazil Watch....

Sorry, but you couldn't be more mistaken. I just returned from 1 month in France, and during that time I saw precisely 1 group of American tourists acting like total fools. Unfortunately I was in the queue with them for the top of the Arc de Triomphe and got the full blast of ""33 Amercians." Make that 33 loud and stupid Americans.

The rest of the Americans I saw were polite and lovely. Yes, many were lost and had their noses buried in maps, but none of them fit the stereotype.

And at $1.60 to the Euro, there were a lot less of us than in previous years.

It doesn't matter what nationality you are if you are loud, obnoxious, pushy, and rude, but some groups that have been seen in WDW during the summer months definitely fit the description. :rolleyes1 Last summer, we were at BB and had several adults that didn't speak English break in line to get with their other friends wearing speedos on several different attractions. DD16 and DD's BFF were just about to loose it!!!! No matter where you are from, you should still have some manners. Be on the look out.... they're coming!!!

We go to WDW every July (that is what works for our vacation schedule) and we run into the "lovely" Brazilian tour groups each year.

Until you have actually been to WDW parks during the middle of July you really have NO clue how bad it can be :sad2: Sure other groups can be rude, but there are sooooo many teenagers that are totally unsupervised pushing, shoving, line cutting, walking in packs across the walkways, chanting (OMG the chanting) it is insane

Last year we were in Fantasmic! and it was actually scary how the crowd of Brazilians from the tour groups were acting. Personally, if we walk in again and see that type of group at Fantasmic we will try another night ;)

We go one week earlier this year and :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: that earlier July is better :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Oh, I would be happy if I saw Brazilians when I go in July.... I just got back from 6 weeks in Rio de Janeiro, and I'm having serious withdrawal. Especially if any of the tour groups look like the men I saw on the beach. :cool1:

In 2002 Brazil won the real football (soccer) World Cup beating England on the way. The morning following the final there were hundreds of Brazilians driving down the roads, hanging out of car windows and waving flags, it had been raining earlier and there were huge puddles of water all over the place. When we pulled up at a set of lights a car load of them pulled alongside, the lights turned green and I let them get away. Then I floored it and hit a HUGE puddle just as I pulled alongside them. I think they and their car got damp.

Serves them right for gloating and beating us, we'd never have gloated;).

Sorry, but I don't do peace and harmony when it comes to real Football.

I absolutely agree that it matters not what nationality a group is. However, the country mentioned happens to be a source of large often unruly, pushy, loud groups. Not every single person from any country fits a stereotype. I don't think the original posters meant that in any way. Personally I've seen hundreds of posts on the forums over the years about this situation. The country mentioned is not always the source of the groups. Frequently it is. I don't consider that an insult or profiling or whatever someone wants to say. If it is a fact, it isn't a slam about any nationality. It's simply a fact. I try to be sensitive to other people and hope they will be the same toward me. Never had a problem with large groups of other nationalities where we are from (small town in southern PA) because it wasn't a tourist mecca. Have seen and experienced it at Walt Disney World. It's been hashed and re-hashed many times. It's not going to go away. And I for one appreciate knowing when the groups are prevalent. Easier for us to stay home.

They were lots last week when we were. Both at WDW and Universal.

The only problem we had with them (other than standing in the middle of everything) was in the Peter Pan ride that a few tried to cut and go in front with a group in front until my 6'4" husband said in his deep voice "what are you doing?" and they stopped!

The only other time was in Universal that a group just tried to block my DDs view and I said in my only Portuguese "excuse me"! That caught the attention of the chaperone and they backed off.:lmao:

The title of this thread brought back memories!

In my experience they tend to be there in July. I'm sure I'll see several this trip as well. I must remember to forewarn my husband - I had forgotten about them!

Isn't that funny? I haven't been to WDW in July in a few years and had forgotten about the Brazilian tour group factor, but the minute I saw the title it all came rushing back.

At least this time we're not at an All-Stars with them. Yikes!

They were in full force at DHS on Sunday. Neon t-shirts, flag waving tour guide and all!

I only saw one group the day before at MK, though.

Maybe its the beginning of the season - we go back in two weeks, so we shall see!

The Europeans are saying the same thing about the loud, obnoxious US tourists descending on them this summer. As someone who travels extensively throughout the year, believe me US tourists are the worst. They seem to think the entire world should adapt to their way of doing and thinking
Personally, find this question a bit offensive and narrow minded.
Almost as bad as the post that only wans CMs in world showcase pavillions who fit the "sterotypical" physical look of the host country.

Sorry but I disagree. A few years ago I was in Moscow Russia waiting to check in to a hotel. There was a large counter and only 2 ladies checking people in. Well a large bus pulls up and about 40 men got off. The came up and in mass rushed the counter. Pushing and reaching over people to try to get the girls to take them first. It worked and I ended up just standing there stewing. I learned from a friend later that it is just the russian way to push your way ahead in any situation or you will never get helped.

So I think in any country a large group of unsupervised teens can cause problems. I really doubt it is dictated by nationality. I don't think the OP here is offensive at all. I personally will never vacation at Disney again in July due to the tour groups from Brazil or Spain or wherever they come from. I don't have a problem with their nationality. I do have a probelm with 50 of them jumping in line and then to make it worse they all cheer at the top of their lungs for the whole 30 minute wait. After about the third time I had had enough and left the park. The following year I went to Universal and had a great time. Now I just go to Disney in the fall and avoid the groups all togeather.

Of course they stay together - if they wander the guide with the blasted whistle starts blowing it  and then he waves the long flag pole around. Hopefully he never stumbles or trips with that long pole, because many people would get hurt by it. I'm amazed security lets them in with those poles!

This made me :lmao: out loud! I can imagine this scene too well.

We always go to WDW in July, so we are all too familiar with these tour groups...

Um, this makes me very uncomfortable. And I'm surprised to see it on a site that supports a place that is supposed to be magic for everyone without prejudice.

I agree that it is wrong to talk about people just because of their nationality. My complaint is about a very specific group that we encountered last July at DHS. I didn't even recognize them at first as being from Brazil because their blue and white shirts said English at Disney. (I admit that it is wrong but I was actually amazed that British people could possibly be that rude. My husband explained that their shirts meant that they were at Disney to learn English.) A few of their members pushed us out of the way to run into the new single rider line at the RNR. The rest of the group of about 50 then kept trying to skip line to join those who had pushed past us. (I wouldn't let them because in a single rider line it shouldn't matter who you are in line with.) The really bad part was that when they came to the ride attendant, their leader instructed them to lock arms and refuse to be separated. They effectively shut down the single rider line by this tactic. The girls in the group even cried real tears at the mere thought of not getting to ride with her friends. The CM eventually had to call in reinforcements and this group just wouldn't give up. This behavior was at the direction of their tour leader.

Once again this isn't about just any Brazilian tour group. This is about the English at Disney tour group.

We're moving our annual trip back a few weeks to August because we were so irritated by the rudeness of these large groups we encountered the last two Julys. I expect to see some of these groups in August, but from what I can tell, July is the peak month for their travels, so I hope I see fewer of them than we did the last two years.

I'm not saying all Brazilians are rude. What I am saying is that large groups of 50 or more teens away from home are not going to be polite if they are not required to be polite by their guides or chaperones. They will block access to rides. They do chant. I have seen members of these groups push others out of the way (including a little girl in front of me) and then pretend not to understand when someone calls them on it.

We had three different CMs comment to us about the rudeness of these groups. One advised me and my DD and another parent with small children to "be careful or they'll run you over" when we were getting ready to enter the Little Mermaid show at DHS. One, our waiter at a restaurant in one of the parks, was from Brazil, and he told us that he did not like to wear his nametag identifying him as being from Rio because he was so embarrassed by the tour groups in the parks in July. He was horrified, and I doubt he was being biased against South Americans in general as he was South American!

I'm SO not prejudiced, and I've traveled all over the world and lived with families in Germany and Slovakia and as a student in France. Please--I know about different cultures and am very adaptable to these differences.

But, these groups are often obnoxious. It could be cultural, as I do know that certain cultures push more than others (go to a bank in England and then one in France and you'll see a huge difference in queues!). It could be social class, as I assume most of these kids are in the upper half or quarter of Brazilian society and therefore have a bit of money and might look down on some of the workers. It could be age related as most teens no matter where they're from do not always practice the best of manners when they are abroad and away from their parents at the same time.

But, really, they do cause problems for the average folks touring the parks, and only those of us who've lived through July can understand it.

I'm not prejudiced either, but I did have a VERY bad experience with members of a group that happened to be Brazilian. More than just being obnoxious. I was buying ponchos on a rainy day in Epcot. I was paying for them at the register when a young woman from the group grabbed the bag out of my hand. I grabbed them back and another young woman ASSAULTED me. She physically beat me with her fists. I actually climbed over the counter to get away from her. The poor CM at the counter was as shocked as I was. We were both ducked down behind the counter. Another CM, a guy, dragged the two young women out of the shop - and they were flailing their fists at him.

The whole group stood around outside yelling and screaming at the poor CM guy for awhile. Their leader finally waved the flag and blew the whistle and led them off. I don't know why they did what they did and I don't know what happened with them after that. It was just a totally weird experience. I was reimbursed for the ponchos - the CM just handed me money from the register - she told me there was no way she was going to charge me for them after what happened. But I'd rather have paid for them without the incident happening.

That was the last time we visited WDW in July. The rest of that trip, I ran the other way when I saw a Brazilian group.

To anyone who thought my OP was prejudiced-unless you have lived through Brazilian Tour Groups in July, you have no idea what it can be like. The stories told here are true experiences, believe me.

Where was Disney Security during all this? The reports I've read are that they're there as soon as these types of incidents occur because of security cams. Those girls should have been escorted out of the parks, their tickets revoked and refused entry, not to mention a ride to the local police department.

When we arrived in Moscow, Russia several years ago waiting at customs to go through passport verification, a flight from another country (which I won't name, but is in southern Asia) arrived shortly after us and they were the RUDEST people I have ever seen in my life! They completely broke line, then looked at us and laughed when we tried to stop them. All of the Americans that had come in from NYC were standing there flabbergasted. Because of that entire planeload of rude, obnoxious people we waited almost TWO HOURS to pass thru passport control.

Those girls should have been escorted out of the parks, their tickets revoked and refused entry, not to mention a ride to the local police department.

The CM did call a security person, who was there in just a couple of minutes - he took my name, address and where we were staying. He said the incident would be reported and looked into. It happened very quickly - and I was pretty shaken up. I was just glad I wasn't dented worse than I was. But during that week, I did get the idea that Disney doesn't do much to impede the tour groups in general. Which is probably why they get away with what they get away with.

I got an "apology call" from Disney after we got home. I think Disney was more worried about a law suit than my actual well-being. I had no intention of suing - the actions of those girls weren't Disney's fault, but I DO wish they would find a way to control the groups more.

We cured the problem by not going during Tour Group Season.
