I am not looking for sympathy, but just wanted to pass on some news. On Friday we had a call for a 36 year-old man who had his leg caught in an auger. He was in corn bin and somehow slipped into it. It took us an hour to get him out he will probably lose his leg at the hip. I then spent three hours in the hospital, because I found out that I'm allergic to corn dust or mold. It caused me to have shortness of breath their required medication. But I am better now.
Then Saturday morning a friend from another local fire department was mowing grass. Apparently he got too close to a creek and the tractor tipped over he suffered massive head injuries and was flown to Chicago. Unfortunately he died from his injuries. I had known him for 20 years and he was a good friend. He was also an instructor and a local high school career center. He was well liked by all the students and will be sorely missed.
Hopefully today will go better. Coleen and I are going to a wine tasting party. That will probably help a little.

WOW!! Sounds like you have had some kind of weekend!! I am sorry for all the sadness that is going on right now. Things will get better. You helped save someone life!!!! Isnt that something to cheer about?

Enjoy the wine tasting but be careful and dont over do it and do not drive if you have had too much.

Oh, Steve. I'm so sorry to hear about the death of your friend. How very sad :(

I hope you are feeling better from your allergic reaction.

Try to enjoy the rest of your weekend it sounds like it has been very tough on you so far :(

A sad time in Kankakee, Steve. So sorry for all. My prayers for your friends family and school kids that they do well. Hope your day goes well from now forward.

Sorry to hear about your weekend, Steve. What sad accidents.:(

I'm sorry to hear about the death of your friend. Sounds like you are having a very tough weekend. {{{Hugs}}}

I am so sorry to hear that you went through so much this weekend and so sorry to hear about your friend :( I hope things look up for you soon.

Sorry Steve,

I can remember when my dad was still an EMT these things always seemed to be cyclical (just like your weekend). You guys are amazing, and have such a tough job, I cannot imagine having to deal with all this.

I hope you and DW have a blast at the wine tasting. ENJOY!

Debbie

You really have had a tough weekend. I'm sorry about your friend's death--prayers and pixie dust are headed your way.

What a horrible weekend! I'm so sorry you lost your friend, Steve. Prayers and pixie dust for all the victims and their families as well as for you. You reminded me of a couple I met a couple years ago while on vacation at Club Med. He was a fireman in Chicago, his wife was sweet as anything, and they had an adorable little boy. Nice thinking of them!

On me, what a weekend you have had. Hope today is a better one for you.

Sorry to hear that your weekend wasn't the greatest Steve. Try and get some rest today.

OMG Steve.....I'm so sorry to hear of all the misfortunes from this weekend. This is not a good time of year unfortunately - lots of farm accidents. Sometimes, no matter how many times they are told, those farmers don't listen to turn off the equipment first!!! It's very important but sometimes they just don't do it.

And I'm very sorry to hear about your friend. I sure hope today starts off a better week for you - although I know it will be a hard one. Take care of yourself.

Thanks for all the kinds words . It helps to hear from some Dis friends when you are haveing a bad time.

The man who was caught in the auger lost most of his leg but they think he will live. He lost a lot of blood and there is a huge threat of infection. His spirits are good though and he should do well.

My fellow firefighter will be buried on Friday with the wake set for Thurs. they are giving him a full FD funeral so all the local departments will be involved. I will be very busy so I may not be on here much till Monday.

Thanks once again for ALL the kind words. They really do help.

Steve
