Just my opinion here...

Touchstone isn't a bad studio. They're behind some of my fave 80s titles (The Bette Midler movies, "Who Framed Roger Rabbit", etc.).

Disney needs to appeal to everybody, and even that can get crossed. Adults love Disney animated products...Kids go hog-wild over R-rated titles. No problem at all...at least not that I can see.

Are you sure it's the content you're angry about, or the decreasing quality of the product?

I think that people DO know that Touchstone and Miramax are Disney companies, but I don't think that the movie-going public looks at "Kill Bill" and says, "That's a Disney film." I think they're smart enough to know that "Kill Bill" is a Miramax film, and therefore probably not something they're going to take their kids to. Show me one family -- any family -- who has come out of "Finding Nemo" with their family and then said, "Oh look, honey -- Kill Bill is here too. It's a Disney film ... we should take the kids tomorrow." Doesn't happen.

As for "PG-13" films -- in my family, we weren't allowed to go to those until we were seniors in high school. Which means that not everyone sees them as wholesome family entertainment. PG-13 indicates that there are things in the film deemed too intense or perhaps unsuitable for kids under 13. How does that equate to "wholesome?"

"Kill Bill" vs. "Passion" -- if you're just talking violence, they're on par. Doesn't matter who you're killing, over-the-top violence is over-the-top violence. Some people say it's OK in "Passion" because it's the story of Christ. Others say its OK in "Kill Bill" because it's an artistic thing. I haven't seen either one, and probably won't, but not because of the violence. They've both been over-hyped and I'd rather get my Gospel and my "art" from other places.

Personally I think it's good that the Disney branches are "showing their leaves" to say. I love animated movies as much as the next person, but there are sometimes this 21 y/o just HAS to watch an action flick or maybe even an (dare I say it) adult comedy movie.
