My DD5 is touch sensitive, which means that she is hyper-sensitive if something doesn't feel right. A wrinkle in her sock almost sends her over the edge until we get it fixed, for example. I'm exagerating a little bit, but not much!

I suspect that she will not like the ID bracelet the clubs put on the kids. A couple of years ago we went to a small amusement park that put our admission on a plastic ID bracelet for each of us to wear and she pitched a screaming fit until she managed to yank it off. She is older now so I may be worrying about nothing but. . .

Would we be allowed to safety pin the ID to her shirt, if necessary?

I wouldn't per se call my daughter touch sensitive, but every where we have gone that had a braclet (ie: fair, gatorland) etc.. she had a real problem with the braclet. So, I was expecting her to put up a real fight with the braclet for the kids club. She didn't have a problem with it at all. The counselors explained how they needed to wear it, etc... We didn't take it off until after we got home!! So, just wait and see. As far as putting it someplace else, I don't know. Just talk to the counselors.:D

I have a hyper-sensitive kidlet as well. We go through the sock routine every morning. :D

The bracelets on the younger kids are really mandatory, they are hospital-style and they tell the kids not to take them off at all during the cruise, even when swimming. I honestly don't think there is any other way to pin this important ID on your child, it needs to be that bracelet as it contains important information, such as your muster station (the place you go during a lifeboat dril). Pinning the bracelet just would not make it secure.

Definitely talk to the counselors when you arrive if you have any concerns and they may have some suggestions for you. My daughter just asked that the bracelet not be too tight and she was perfectly fine with it. She even had to have it replaced once as it started to bleach out a bit from all the time she spent in the pool.

Good luck! :)

WOW! I thought MY child was the only one with a sock problem! Sure makes for a hectic start to a morning, especially when we are running late!:D

but were your kids early? My DS was 3.5 weeks early and had the touch sensitivity for a long time. A medical person once told me that it's common on early kids because their senses haven't totally matured when they're born?

Fwiw, he was also a MAJOR reflux baby (for 11.5 months) and colicky as heck too - same explanation

Just curious if this holds true for others?

My daughter was two weeks late and had to be induced (11 pounder!). I think she just likes to give me a hard time! Nothing is ever easy with her. Luckily for me, her younger sister is much easier going!

FYI: My DS8 cut his off every night when we got back to the room. They would put another one on him the next day. I didn't think they made too big a deal over it. He even got lost one day without it on and the Guest Services desk paged me (with the Lab pager).

2 girls here and I had to laugh when I read the sock thing. It is very common and I believe most (not all ) kids do have a problem with the seam in their socks to the point I went to a comedy club one night and the comedian used the sock thing in his act. Very funny show I must say. Except when its in the morning and then he added the hurry up you're gonna miss the bus thing.
When I watch my 10 yr old put on her socks her toes curl cause she pulls them up so much so there are NO creases.

Anyway, The wrist bands are quite loose, you shouldn't have a problem and if you do just speak with a counselor.

Masonpips-

My DD was 5 weeks early. She is not happy when clothing doesn't fit "right". She had a MAJOR reflux problem until around 10 months old too. DD was sensitive to noise for a while, still is somewhat.

She is now 7 and even though we still have the clothes issue, she wears bracelets and watches with no problem.

My son has a Sensory Disorder. He was 6 weeks early and had reflux problems for several months. He is 12 now and he can't stand to touch paper unless it is coated and slick. He hates socks and tags in shirts. His bath water has to be very hot and so does the food he eats. He is very sensitive to noise. He use to chew on EVERYTHING, but that has improved some over the years. He still will not wear things like a watch though. I could go on forever with this list, but you get the idea. But like I said, I have seen a gradual improvement over the years.

Wow. I appreciate all the responses. Thank you for all the information and advice like Michelle's explanation for why DD5 should wear the ID bracelet as I didn't fully appreciate it's importance. We have several months before our cruise so I think I will buy a couple inexpensive bracelets or a watch for DD5 to get her used to the feeling of something on her wrist. . .if she'll wear it.

My daughter wasn't early, she was induced past-due. In addition to being sensitive to touch, she was also very sensitive to bright lights. She had to wear a sunhat and sunglasses to go out into the sun and even if she was riding in the car. Otherwise she screamed and cried. She has outgrown this mostly so that she just doesn't like bright light but it doesn't throw her into a tizzy.

She is still overly sensitive to loud noises and is terrified of fireworks.

Strangely enough, she also was a reflux baby. We have lots of baby photographs with her wearing a full bib. . .the only way we found to cut down on clothing changes.

Peg:rolleyes:
