TotWL - For DVC Members only now, not just staying on points??

Can anyone confirm that they will NOT let us go up to the TotWL - I'll be staying at BLT on points, but am not the member myself. I just called BLT to ask and one CM stated that if they scan my magic band and it says DVC points (which it will) I'll be ok to go up, then another stated I will have to show a DVC Member card (which I don't have).

Would love to know if anyone has actually gone up to the TotWL via a MB scan. And wondering when they changed this rule (or if the old KTTW card that stated "DVC Member" circumvented the rule without my knowledge).

Thank you.

I haven't gone up with a MB scan, but I have always had to show my dvc card before going up.

The rules are the TOTWL is open to members staying at WDW. It is not open to renters. Non members can only go as a guest staying with a member. The rules haven't changed it has always been so.

Did the rule change or did they just never care to check further than the KTTW card before? I have been up multiple times and never had one issue nor did I realize I was breaking any rules by doing so. That was with a KTTW that said "DVC Member" on it.

When the TOTWL first opened it was limited to Members staying at BLT on a reservation made thru MS. A couple of years ago, DVC opened it to Members staying at any Disney Owned & Operated Resort (cash or points) at WDW.

In the past they sometimes asked for our DVC member card and sometimes not and the room card was fine. Now they have Magic bands and likely you will have to have your DVC card. When a member makes a reservation now there is a box we must check that asks if the person is a member. I would think this with the new MB system will likely limit further those renting points from having access. It is not permitted that is the rule and asking the question the simple answer is you are not allowed but non members can and do find ways as it is not a guarded jail. Met a person who sold DVC (and his guest) there one night and he told me how to get there.
Better put if you try to go in September likely you will get in... July 3 or 4 ain't gonna happen.

It has always been members only. They may just have been less vigilant about enforcing the rules. You now don't actually need to be staying on points just at WDW but the one thing you do need is to be a member.

It depends on the CM checking you in and putting you on the elevator.

The rule has not changed. Previously with the KTTW card some CM's would just look at what it said on that and accept it as proof although even then there were a couple that would ask to see the blue member card. It was pretty common across WDW to have that happen with DVC benefits at times - that they were given to non-members who were staying on points and got the DVC Member printed on the card. So you were either lucky with the TOTWL access - or just allowed - to go up before. And might be again. Technically the rule always has been Members and their guests staying on the same reservation.

Just a heads up my MB didn't work and I was staying at BLT had to show my member card.

I'd venture to say the rule is probably fluid based on how busy the lounge is.

If they aren't getting much business, they would probably accept your library card as proof.

We were there in January and February 2014 and we had to show a member card. They didn't ask anything about the MB. So I would venture to say no member card no access. Sorry

We have always had to show our blue DVC Member Card and they always ask where we are staying. No one has ever asked to see our KTTW card and in recent years ours have not had DVC Member printed on them. You will need the blue members card.

MBs may be a game changer since they can scan it and know everything at a glance.

I think most, if not all, people who ask the question know the answer, and are looking for a way around it. It does not matter how many times you have been up there before---if you are not a member or staying IN THE ROOM WITH A MEMBER, you were breaking the rules.
The rule did not get stricter. You have to be a member or a guest of a member staying in the same room on the same reservation with a member, and present the blue DVC member card.

I see on your other posts you are planning to take other people up to the Totwl, which is probably the real purpose of your query.
Members only (and their guests staying in the same room on the same reservation in the company of the Member) who presents the blue DVC member card is the rule no matter how many times you ask or argue about it.

This question is asked so often by renters. If you want all the benefits of membership, buy DVC. Then you can go up everytime without breaking the rules.

I have never had to show my blue card. I've stayed at BLT under the "original" rule and showed my key card (but I was also on 16th floor!), and in Dec 13 and May 14 we just scanned our MB to gain access.

We just returned from BLT, and DH said they scanned his band for access :)

What is TOTWL? What are the benefits of going up to this area in Bay lake towers? Why Is it special? Give me the low down! As a new member I would love to be filled in!

It's a great place to relax, grab a drink and snack on top of BLT. Only DVC members and their guests are allowed access. Check out this article on the Disney food blog. It's an awesome spot to view the fireworks at MK.
